The Oprah Winfrey Show to end in 2011

From TMZ:

Oprah Winfrey just announced to her staff ... next season will be the last for her TV show.

An Oprah insider tells TMZ "Oprah announced there will be layoffs after this season."

The final show will air in Sept 2011.

2011 marks the 25th year of the show -- one of the most successful in TV.

Story developing...
Oh snap!

I'm afraid to leave my office, as I fully expect there to be rioting going on here in Chicago.

I have to figure out how to get tickets to her last show. Surely she'll be giving away cars or houses, or maybe even small towns.

She may be using this to renegotiate her contract.

Or just ending the current show to start the cable version.

She's starting her own channel that year so she'll probably have some kind of show on there.

Part of her deal with the OWN network was she had to end her syndicated show. They were getting antsy and suggested they could back out of their deal with Oprah if she didn't end the show... and soon.

The news I was hoping to hear was that she had dropped dead, but I guess this something.

She is quitting the same way Jay Leno quit. We'll never get rid of these cockroaches.

In other news, Brett Favre is retiring.

this announcement is going to be good in the long run, if only to reassure viewers that Oprah knew where she was going all along.

Why do people dislike Oprah? I never got it? I don't watch the show regularly, but when I do happen to catch it it's just afternoon tv. I know about the episode with Jenny McCarthy that was putting forth bad medical advice, but other than that...what gives?

They've already postponed the launch of OWN from this year to next. They had better get off their ass and get the thing online if they want to capitalize on Oprah's syndicated show sending viewers to the network.

It's scary that there are people that worship Oprah and live off every thing she speaks.

I'd be surprised if she didn't start some new show.. I can't see her giving up being such an influential person to the lowly masses.

I don't understand the Oprah hate either. I have watched her show probably one time in my life when I was around 12 years old, but I don't look down on people who do. I don't agree with all her stances, but I think she is a driven woman who has accomplished some amazing things in her life.

About 25 years overdue. That said, Povich and Springer, which are much, much worse, are still on, for some unfathomable reason (oh wait, viewership).

However, despite the stupidity those shows are more entertaining as well as they understand their place. I don't have a dislike for Oprah but lets be real here and understand that her opinion is no more or less valuable than any other person's opinion. Living and breathing by what she says is just foolish.

Good riddance. I really hate this woman. She is a pompous air bag (actually more likely filled with chocolate cake and hamburgers) who really thinks she is important for society. Tyra Banks has already moved into her position though as being a self centered egotistical wind bag. So the world continues to suffer.

Yeah, I'm genuinely curious as to why a mention of her brings out the venom in people. I read the criticisms sections of her wikipedia article even, and I really just do not get it.

Re: The Oprah Winfrey Show to end in 2011

The irrational hate towards her makes me like her even more. God forbid a woman start an empire, and have people actually like her. The GALL of someone to suggest to people things they might like to read, or eat, or ANYTHING if they like to watch her show. Her opinion is worth more than yours, and do you know why? Because people listen to it. Because when she likes a product, that can make a company overnight.

I have never heard stories of her being an absolute asshole to people (and no, I haven't cared enough to find any) but you people act like she murdered your first born child.

I think the problem with anything that "women" like is that guys become irrationally defensive about it. Girls like Twilight, so FUCK TWILIGHT. Girls like Oprah, so FUCK OPRAH. I remember the venom towards Brad Pitt and Leo DiCaprio back in the day when girls were lusting after them. But of course now that they make movies for "guys" that venom has disappeared for the most part. [Larry David] Interesting. [/Larry David]

Waaaaahhhh someone is popular so I have to hate them now! It's just annoying.
