NBC has picked up two of its freshman series -- "Community" and "Mercy" -- along with second-year comedy "Parks and Recreation" for full seasons.
None of the three shows has made a whole lot of noise in the ratings ("Mercy" is the leader of the three, averaging 7.8 million viewers a week), but as NBC tries to climb out of its fourth-place hole, it's opting for a measure of stability in the second half of the season.

They know they're going to be looking for 5 hours a week next season just with the loss of Jay I see coming, so this is a smart and necessary move to try to cope. NBC is going to be in the basement for a while.

LOVE Mercy, Parks and Rec has been 10x better this season and Community is finally starting to work for me, so this is all good news as far as I'm concerned.

All three are decent shows so huzzah!
Trauma is dead (or will be announced as such soon).

Agree that Trauma is DOA. Being shot in San Francisco and episodes costing reportedly $3-4M each make it a guaranteed goner.
Glad they are sticking with all 3, especially Parks.

I'm actually really more impressed with Mercy getting the back 9. Really watchable medical drama despite not having even 1 major star and having mostly B and C List actors. It's also been winning it's timeslot even without reaching 8M viewers. Taylor Schilling has been pretty impressive for his 1st lead role or major acting role.

Great news for Community, I really enjoy the humor and that it brings the laughs. Bummed about Trauma, which was good tv with surprising amounts of gore i.e. dude's arm meeting a circular saw.

That speaks more about how soft Wednesday viewership is across the board between 8-9 (and the whole night compared with other weeknights except Friday and Saturday) than about "Mercy's" appeal. The ABC/CBS sitcoms from 8-9 also do bad, but once 9 kicks in everything (the ABC sitcoms, "SVU," "Criminal Minds," etc.) shuts up instantly. You're right though, NBC is betting "Mercy" will either stay the same or grow. That's a safer bet than "Trauma" picking up steam it never had to begin with.

I'm happy for Parks and Rec and Community. Parks and Rec has improved a lot since last season but the ratings are still down.

Wonder how things will play out with Chuck coming back in March (if they now stick to that - Mercy was going to get canned along with Trauama earlier this week but Wednesdays ratings for Mercy changed that). They still have Parenthood too.

Glad to hear the news about Community. I have to give Mercy another chance, I suppose...I really haven't kept up with it at all. Parks and Recreation really ruin Thursday nights for me on NBC, however. I can't believe people find that show funny and took steaming dumps on Kath and Kim all season long last year.

Great news about Mercy. I've been loving this show, but it doesn't get much chatter around these parts. Great drama without being too over the top.
