Off topic but are the sweeps in March instead of February because of the 2010 Winter Olympics?

I think the show is funny and JB Smoove saved the show when he came on.

Re: FOX Pulls 'Til Death for Sweeps

I just don't understand this show.

The ugly daughter was on the first episode last night but no mention of the sitcom storyline.

The previous daughter was on the second one but she's supposed to be 3 months pregnant and is marrying Doug. This makes no sense because I could have sworn they were already married. In fact I thought they got married a few weeks ago although the daughter was blond that time around.

Screw it, I just ffwd'd through the whole second cartoon episode.

Re: FOX Pulls 'Til Death for Sweeps

did read the rest of this thread.

The show has been airing out of order for the last 2 years and now they're just burning off the last of the episodes.

Re: FOX Pulls 'Til Death for Sweeps

the show is a mess with the odd decent episode

I liked the Woodcocks, JB smooth is ok in small doses. i think the new married couple, Simona and someone else were quite good. The daughter and her bf are a total waste of space (i believe 4 actresses have played the daughter). And this new annoying neighbour with the golddigger wife is terrible. Crazy principal is ok in small doses as is the weird new friend

Writers seem to be using this show to test all different characters just for the hell of it

Re: FOX Pulls 'Til Death for Sweeps

I guess I'm the only one still watching.
this past episode was almost surreal.
The hippie still thinks he's on a sitcom. He goes to a therapist who is Blossom,
Miyam Bialock (spelling?)
She is filming a reality show about actors who used to be on reality shows and who two "guests" were former actors from the old Blossom show.

Hippie keeps mentioning the 5 people who played his wife.

This show has grown on me.

I love it. It was great when he said "hey, lets invite over the Woodcocks! or Kenny! or that funny neighbor with the sexy wife who only shows up when it's in the budget". Classic. Love how they know it was the last season and were given the keys to do whatever they want.

I still watch but only when I have nothing else on the Tivo. The show is such a disaster but I get a couple of laughs out of it that I still stick around. I'm glad they addressed the 5 daughters and the occasional neighbors.

I still watch the slow burn-off of these episodes, but they are getting bolder with all the crazy casting of the daughter and the revolving door of co-workers and neighbors. Still miss Steph, though.

Re: FOX Pulls 'Til Death for Sweeps

when the complete series hits dvd will it be in production order or aired order?

Might be fun to rewatch this in production order.
I'm going to miss new episodes of this show.

And for the record, I'd watch this show over Everybody Loves Raymond any day of the week.

That article keeps trying to point out why the show is awful but it keeps proving why the show was so bizarrely hard not to watch.
Pointing out every single reason why I wanted to keep watching the show.

You could say the same thing about Plan 9 from Outer Space but that doesn't mean it's not a remarkable work. Fact is I've enjoyed all seasons of this show and the mayham of the final season was the best.

Like the climax of shooting your wad after an hour of slowly jacking it. My only disappointment is that the wad won't continue to shoot out for a fifth season so it can be syndicated and shoot jism all over living rooms five days a week while people shovel down their Swanson TV dinner in front of the tube.

Jesus Christ I need a smoke.

81 episodes is plenty for Syndication. Sony hasn't had a show in Syndication for a long time. Community is also another perfect show for this.

Re: FOX Pulls 'Til Death for Sweeps

Part of the "charm" that this show became was the complete randomness of it. Like that article said just airing the episodes in a haphazard order and having a different daughter in back to back episodes sort of made me want to see what horrible episode they'd air next.

I do have to admit that Nealon's wife and the psycho principle/former student gave me the hot.

I thought the 100 ep was a hard limit for a show to go in syndie?

If not that's wonderful news. This show has been a classic and I'm betting if it can get aired daily it'll form a HUGE cult following.

The only question is should they air them in order or out of order like Fox?

They should have done this from day one.

The first 2 seasons were good and the third with JB Smooth was great. The whole point of the show, and it seems that AVClub missed it, is that the swarmy quality of the show was part of the comedy from day one.

It's much easier to make a comedy where everyone, or most everyone, is liked but a comedy that explores the bitter, petty depths of humanity and life within the construct of a traditional laugh track sitcom - that's something rare and remarkable.

Although this havoc in S4 is wonderful that was only allowed to exist because no one managing the money cared anymore. Sony giving a show to a network for free is a unique situation where traditional norms don't apply.

But that doesn't mean the previous three seasons wern't comedic gold in their own bizarre way.

It's a sad comedy in so many ways. The tragedy of empty lives drifting and doing the best they can, just like the series, until just like the series the wheels fall off. This final season was the climax of that but that climax couldn't have happened with the stroking from the previous seasons.

The hollow masturbation of empty lives.

With the bleak title of "Til Death" I don't know how The Onion could have missed that the entire point of the show from day one was that of bitterness and sadness and like Penn and Teller Get Killed or the John Laroquette Show it did a wonderful job of achieving it..

I really don't care, I thought this show was brilliant in its horrible absurdity. I plan on buying the complete series, should it come out.

65 is kinda the 'meh' limit. That's enough to air for 13 weeks straight (Mon-Fri).
80 is good and more average. Enough to run for 16 weeks.
100 is the best. That's why you'll see some shows get picked up for two more Seasons around Season 5ish (Bones, for example).

It all really depends where the shows get sold to (Disney, ABC Family etc. are happy for 65 episodes). 'Til Death will likely air on small networks after 11pm. It's cheap fodder for them and Sony will reap the benefits for years to come (hence while they gave the show to free for Fox). Also with 15-20 unaired episodes in their pocket, fans may seek the show out to see the unaired ones (DVD sets are very unlikely).

I don't follow Sony TV very much, but I think they only have a few TV shows on air right now (Community, Breaking Bad). Getting 'Til Death to 80 episodes was a big deal.
