That ep. actually plays well as a guilty pleasure, but it's still lackluster. I saw it after having read all the negativity regarding it and didn't find it that bad. FWIW, in the DVD notes section Whedon has a comment about this season having "that one bad ep. that looked good on paper." At least he acknowledged his mistake. |

I didn't care for Dr. Horrible because it did nothing new. If you're a fan of his previous work you saw the ending coming within the first 10 minutes. The songs were mostly forgettable, too- I don't remember a single one of them. I resent any implication that I simply like it because it's from Joss Whedon. |

some sensitive ass people in this thread
this is an opinion board if someone doesn't like a show, noone who likes it should take it as a personal attack and yes, dollhouse sucks |

My point was simply that the show offers a diversion from the other formula shows & their clones. If I found the show to be unwatchable, I'd say so. In DVDTalk Review terms, I'd give the show a "rent it"...not highly recommended or buy it, but not "skip it", either. It's certainly not essential and doesn't compare favorably to many better shows in the past, but I don't see too many current network shows that I would rate as 'essential'. It's like Friday Night Lights...I watch it because it's different even though I sometimes find it infuriating when it relies on predictable conventions. Still, I prefer it to many other throwaway shows that are paint-by-number. I had some similar reservations about Battlestar Galactica, but the pros outweighed the cons. Could Dollhouse be better? Undoubtedly. Should Dollhouse be better? Without question. Do those assessments make it unwatchable? IMHO, no way. I'll still watch Heroes even when the plots wander, just as I watched Prison Break when it got bogged down in Season 4, or The Tudors when almost two seasons were devoted to Anne Boleyn. I miss the variety of the 60's when every conceivable type of show was airing. Will I miss Dollhouse when it's canceled? Not in a big way. However, I don't see much better on the horizon, judging by the quality of the new shows this season.

What about the one "Some Assembly Required" where Willow's computer fell in love with her? Was it THAT much better than that particular Dollhouse episode?

Thanks for your sage input to this thread. I guess you must have endless amounts of time on your hands if you can wade through all the Dollhouse threads and contribute nothing to the topic except a threadcrap. Seriously, thanks. :crap:
WHAT!?!?! That implant allowed that priceless sequence with Victor (Enver Gjokaj) in the dance club! Too bad she is Spoiler:

It's not so easy to rank 'bad' ANGEL episodes. Being my favorite series, I've never found any episode of it to be bad and find something to like about every one of them. There is the odd episode that I don't enjoy because of something disturbing about them, namely the pregnant Cordelia episodes (partially since I find her to be just plain gross when pregnant) but nothing I flat-out disliked at all. Seasons 2 and 3 are my favorite, as is much of season 1. I loved that humble start the series had.

I'm being painted with a pretty broad brush too so I felt overgeneralizations were fine. I didn't like Dr. Horrbile because it was from Joss Whedon, I liked it because the music is catchy, NPH is outstanding, Fillion is hilarious, Felicia Day is cute, the premise is pretty original and the whole thing is a lot of fun to watch.

***No Dollhouse tonight***
FOX is televising Game 1 of the ALCS. Hence that is why there is no new thread. |
re: FOX to air all ordered eps of Dollhouse
Man, and here I thought we were going to have one with Victor being implanted with the persona of a baseball player trying to figure out a steroid scandal, with Echo as a News Reporter. ;)

Oh that's a relief. I still haven't gotten around to watching last week's episode yet.

re: FOX to air all ordered eps of Dollhouse
A number of shows on all networks seem to be going on hiatus for baseball. Boo. :(

No conflict with Ugly Betty's premiere, so good. :)

re: FOX to air all ordered eps of Dollhouse
Apparently even Joss is ready to move on.
http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/tv/200...dollhouse.html Joss Whedon looks beyond doomed Dollhouse > Posted by Tom Jicha on October 20, 2009 09:31 AM Good news for Joss Whedon is probably bad news for fans of his Fox series Dollhouse. Whedon is preparing for life after the inevitable cancellation of Dollhouse, one of the lowest rated series on any of the big four networks. The creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer is going to direct an episode of the Fox series Glee after he wraps the 13-episode order of Dollhouse. Whedon is so hands-on this all but makes it official that there will be no backend pickup of the nine episodes that would constitute a full season of Dollhouse. Whedon rarely gets involved in shows he didn't create--one exception is an episode of The Office he directed--but Glee is an ideal fit. His creative musical Once More With Feeling episode of Buffy is considered one of the cult phenomenon's brightest moments. He also created the web series Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, which won an Emmy last month. |

This isn’t a good sign: Sources confirm to me exclusively that Fox has decided to pull Dollhouse off the schedule during November sweeps. Joss Whedon’s ratings-challenged drama is expected to return in December and air back-to-back episodes on Friday night.

Regardless of whether the show is canceled or not, I have to respect FOX for this statement. They gave Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles a second chance after lackluster ratings for the first season, renewed it, and then aired every episode. They gave Dollhouse a second chance and are likewise going to run all the episodes. That's a pretty good improvement from the old days where FOX would cancel a show after a few episodes and never air the rest of them.

I find myself not caring about this news. And I still haven't gotten around to watching the last new episode. I look forward to it being canceled so I don't have to force myself to sit through it every week.
