UK's Primeval back from Extinction

Don't know if there are many Primeval fans around here, but there's some good news after it's premature cancellation a few months back.

A new deal has been struck for a 7 episode 4th season and a 6 episode 5th season that unfortunately won't begin until early 2011, but it's better than nothing.

Nice.

The show's last season certainly had its ups and downs, and a lot of cast changes, but I still found it enjoyable. I was a bit miffed that the show had apparently got canceled after the last season's cliffhanger finale. Hopefully, they'll end season 5 on a better note.

I watched this show from various sources including iTunes, and really enjoyed it.

Presumably it will now get the full story with an ending, which it deserves.

This would be great! Loved the show, even if the 3rd series didn't quite match the quality of the previous ones.

I jumped off the show when the cast changed. Maybe I should revisit it?

Anyone watching the current season of this show on BBC America? Though I only caught a few episodes from the previous season, I'm totally hooked.

I know the previous seasons are on DVD but is there any word as to wether they might come to BD?

I am currently watching the first 2 seasons on Netflix streaming. They also have season 3. This is great news, I love this show. As I am only into the 3rd episode of season 2 there has been minimal cast changes. So far so good.

Yeah. It's a fun show and I'm hopelleesly addicted. There's word that Warner Bros. secured the rights to a theatrical feature based on the show. I'd rather it be a big screen outting of the UK show but I have a funny feeling it'll be the introduction of the talked about US version of the show.

Re: UK's Primeval back from Extinction

I would watch it on BBC America except that I already have seen it because months ago I got the DVD from the UK. Seasons 4 and 5 did come out on BD there but I couldn't confirm that they were region free so I settled for the DVDs. I think the conclusion is satisfying as well as remaining open.

For the future there is still a possible feature film and it seems a Canadian version (Primeval: New World) is in the works with production beginning this winter.

I think the show, while not as good as the new Doctor Who or Torchwood (British, as opposed to the bloated Starz/BBC revival) series, was quite good. I have a co-worker who is a big Doctor Who fan who refers to it as Primawful but refuses to watch even a single episode. Her loss.

All of the new season are on YouTube so I know how it all ends. Keep watching. Tho if memory serves the next episode I didn't like too well but it does tie up a loose end.

Re: UK's Primeval back from Extinction

I knew there was a proposed American remake but didn't know of a Canadian spinoff. I like the idea of a spinoff better. And since I hadn't heard anymore of the proposed film, I had assumed it was scrapped.

Wasn't aware the current seasons were available on DVD/BD already.

Is the whole series available on BD? If so, any word as to wether the earlier seasons are region free?

In the UK they're already released. Seasons 4 and 5 are being released on DVD/BD in the US in January as a single set:

Seasons 1-3 were not shot in HD, so a BD release of them would have limited benefits:

There is still the possibility of a 6th season:

The last link lead me here. There's some rather conflicting info on the US spinoff:

According to Broadcast Now, it will be “older, darker and scarier” than the UK original and be shown at 9pm.

New Order will follow a North American cast of animal experts and scientists as they investigate the arrival of prehistoric and futuristic creatures. It will feature a “younger, sexier cast, gorier special effects, and storylines that will delve deeper into the characters’ relationships.”
So I guess some blood on the screen is all that's needed to make it "older".

That said, I can understand not focusing on the UK series to make it easier for new viewers but I think both shows should co-exist in the smae universe rather than be an outright remake.
