Re: Fond memories of MTV Unplugged.

Love the Nirvana Unplugged. Still one of my all time favorite cds.

I really liked the Jay-Z Unplugged, even before I knew who The Roots were. Now I treasure it even more.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I loved Mariah Carey's take on The Jackson Five's "I'll Be There." Her voice never sounded better. Didn't care too much for the rest of the set, but that song remains one of my faves to this day.

Crap, I almost forgot about Alanis Morissette's Unplugged set. I enjoyed that one a great deal, as well. "You Oughta Know" takes on a whole different feel with strings.

The Corrs' Unplugged set is also a favorite.

Loved Aerosmith, that version of Hangman Jury is great, "stand on the rock Joe Perry done stood..."

Ofcourse the Nirvana and AIC ones stand out as well.

One I wish had been released as a cd is the Stone Temple Pilots, some really good versions of their tracks.

And let's not forget the performance that inspired the series to begin with

That's because MTV never replays it.

Almost forgot to mention Black Crowes and Great White whom also had fine Unplugged performances.

Re: Fond memories of MTV Unplugged.

Nirvana and Eric Clapton.

That Eric Clapton album is where he introduced the slowed down version of Layla as well as his rendition of Tears in Heaven which was written for his 4-year old son who had died the previous year after falling out of a 53rd story window.

The Nirvana album was recorded just a few months before Cobain's suicide. Listen to his voice in the song "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" - very powerful stuff.

Other than those two, I enjoyed the 10,000 Maniacs and Alejandro Sanz. I really don't remember listening to any others.

Re: Fond memories of MTV Unplugged.

For me, it's The Cure. Hearing the keyboard part of The Walk played on kazoos was funny. Hearing the piano part of A Letter to Elise played on a child's toy piano was brilliant.

Re: Fond memories of MTV Unplugged.

I wish they would do more Unplugged. Palladia seems to run some I haven't seen before but with so many cool bands out there they should do a new one every month.

I must say I became a fan of Silversun Pickups after sing their Unplugged performance.
