Top Gear - Series 14 (UK - November 15; US -TBD)

I know this is early, but news just came out that this is being shot in HD for the first time.

Yes, after several hundred emails from you as to why you feel Top Gear needs to make the journey from the SD to the HD world, I can confirm that the team is now working with HD cameras on the new series.

Love it, I'll wait for the mkv's to be uploaded to get the higher quality.

This season is also showing at 9PM (British Time), because they didn't want to compete with X-Factor.

I thought Andy said just the first episode was 9pm, with a shift back to 8 after that? I wonder if this will be a shortened series.

So is this being shown on BBC America? The Top Gear's that I see on BBC America are from like 2005.

How can I watch newer episodes?

Won't be on BBC America
Finalgear.com will have the torrent's which BBCA 'approves of'.

Not officially but unofficially, they know it's torrented all over, and are fine with that.

So, basically new episodes aren't available in the US on regular tv then right?

I believe BBCA has been much quicker as of late to bring series to the US once they've aired in the UK. Not quick per se, but quicker. I believe the last series for TG was lagged by about 2 or 3 months.

Re: Top Gear - Series 14 (UK - November 15; US -TBD)

What day and time do the "newest" episodes air here in the U.S.? Does anybody know?

I really like this show, but I've only seen episodes from 2005 and before and if newer episodes are available I'd really like to check them out.

As far as newer episodes go, I'm not sure. Best bet is either getting them from iTunes or purchasing the DVD sets (10 is already out, 11+12 both come out in January).

BBC America shows certain seasons at 8:00 PM on Mondays.

The only problem I have is that BBC America edits Top Gear. I rather torrent the show and get the full 60 minutes with no commercials.

Re: Top Gear - Series 14 (UK - November 15; US -TBD)

That was a great episode! The SIRP was very energetic and fun. I think I'd actually like to see that documentary if it comes out on DVD here.

It was a great change of pace to have James review the BMW and Merc. I think those two actually fit his personality much better than either Richard or Jeremy.

I enjoyed the road trip as well. While it was very reminiscent of the first episode last year, it was fresh enough to not feel repetitive. More importantly I think it's great they looked for something else and didn't settle on the Stelvio Pass.

Jeremy really seemed to be having fun in that village. Especially when he asked them if they shrunk the man in the car behind them.

I freaked out two times: 1) the part with the semi, 2) the incident with the local and his wife

Driving in the tunnel under the palace = mental!

Second episode wasn't as good as the first.
the electric car was cool.

No way I'd have the Vette over the R8, heck you couldn't pay me money to drive a corvette.

And in other news the 101 on Directv are starting to air top gear episodes..

I echo your thoughts on the episode. "Passing" the tests for the car was probably the best bit. "!tuO kooL"

Re: Top Gear - Series 14 (UK - November 15; US -TBD)

I enjoyed episode 3 a lot. I thought the SIRP segment was pretty good. It was nice to see somebody who is really that interested about cars. I thought their argument about the type of Porsche was funny as well.

I think I could have done without the final segment on the kit car, but I enjoyed the Lancia film itself. Gave me insight into a brand and car history that I was not familiar with.

The airship bit was just great. I couldn't tell if the airport segment was staged or not. Some of the reactions by James seemed just too genuine. I also thought the Bond villain music was the perfect touch for the launch.

I also loved Richards line about swinging caravaners and pulling out the Lambo keys. Curious why they didn't put the Balboni around the track.

Re: Top Gear - Series 14 (UK - November 15; US -TBD)

that HF integrale was a dream car of mine gowing up.

the airship caravan was amusing, and I've got to say brave of James. If that thing fell out of the sky he was done right? Nice countryside.

Balboni looked sweet! One of my friends met him in 2000 or 2001, and Valentino took him out in a Murcielago.

I wanted to see a pic of Chris' white ferraris.

googled it and here

I don't know my Ferrari history to well, but once again my expensive taste rears its head. The car I liked most I went and figured out what it was and sure enough it was the regular 250. I'm sure that's some coin.

Oddly the video at the end of that link you provided made me appreciate the 599 (or was it a 612?) even more. It looks much less dated that the 456 that went by before it even though it's already a good 2-4 years old.

Staged! (But still funny.)

Top Gear stunt in which airship flew over airport exposed as a carefully orchestrated fake
By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 12:14 AM on 03rd December 2009

The BBC is facing a new fakery row after it was revealed one of Top Gear's most spectacular stunts was 'set up'.

Sunday's episode featured footage of presenter James May apparently flying an airship with a caravan beneath it across Britain.

Millions of fans watched as May, 46, appeared to stray accidentally over Norwich airport, provoking police to intervene.
Top Gear stunt exposed as a fake

But yesterday, professionals involved in the stunt said that the scene had been 'set up'.

Steve O'Brian, of Sterling Helicopters, who supplied the police helicopter, said that although May appeared to be piloting the airship alone, a professional took the wheel for the difficult manoeuvres.
James May takes part in a fake caravan airship stunt

'The whole event was set up,' he said. 'It was completely scripted, there was no real emergency - we were hired to play along.'

A BBC spokesman said: 'As an entertainment programme, Top Gear prides itself on making silly films that don't pretend to represent real life.

'Any suggestion it deliberately misled viewers is patently ludicrous.'

There perhaps and equally scathing post floating on the web from the guy who built the kit Lancia saying how the owner (not the poster) was mistreated and the car was abused and returned broken.
