about half way through and all I can think of is the end of Seven

All caught up with NCIS LA. Doing a thread this week because this is a continuation of a storyline from a few weeks ago when G and Sam when to Sudan to find a terrorist and Sam screwed over the sister. I had no idea that Sam was married with kids as the episode ended on.

We don't normally watch this, but that was a pretty good finale. I knew Callen was going to shoot him though.
Part of me thinks he was wearing a vest and it was a setup, but can't figure out why "The Chameleon" would go along with it.

I'm also of the opinion that it was a setup so the Chameleon could turn. He would have a lot of valuable information but his life would be in danger if he walked. So they set up a public execution. I'm betting the cops were NCIS agents as well to help sell the scene.

If that's true, the news team would have to have been in on it too. Otherwise, you're exposing an elite team of agents to the world.

I still think there's a clue in the fact that there is no blood. When the other agent gets shot earlier in the episode, they make a point to show the pool of blood around his head/neck. There is no blood on the Chameleon or on the floor of the van.
Once they found out where the drop would be, it's possible they would have had time to plant another news crew there.
I'm just grasping at straws, because I really don't think they would get rid of Chris O'Donnell and there is no way he could get out of shooting someone in cold blood, no matter who it is.

Especially someone that supposedly knows information about Callens past. That seems to be the one overarcing driving force that the show has.

Something about that whole ending felt staged. Chris O'Donnell and LL Cool J are the show. Without them I don't think I'd be able to enjoy it even with Daniella Ruah's assets.
If it was staged though, what gives with Hetti's resignation then?

Maybe she wasn't in on it? I saw an interesting theory on CBS's message boards:

Finally saw this and yeah, you knew Callen was going to pop a cap in Connor McCloud and I really didn't blame him. If it was a setup to get Chameleon to turn it's a pretty big risk. Even if the camera crew was a plant the video was being broadcast on the jumbo tron at the drop location so future undercover ops anywhere in LA would be compromised (you don't know who was in the area watching).

NCIS: Los Angeles -- Season 4 -- Tuesdays (CBS)

"Endgame" - Following Callen's public shooting of the Chameleon on last season's finale cliffhanger, all is not well with the NCIS: LA team, as Callen is placed on suspension and Hetty adjusts to retired life, on the fourth season premiere of NCIS: LOS ANGELES, Tuesday, Sept. 25 (9:01-10:01 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Alright. I was so lost watching this episode. Did anyone else feel the same? I think the plot got so convoluted that it took me right out of the story. I know this was a follow up to last season's finale, but I think most of it didn't make any sense. And then to top it off, everything that happened in last season's finale was staged. The Chameleon didn't die, the cops who arrested Callen were Undercover NCIS and Hetty's resignation wasn't real. What did handing the Chameleon to the Iranians really accomplish?
The serialized arcs on NCIS LA rarely work. This was a case of one of them being a flat out dud.

Kind of proud of myself for calling the fake shooting in last year's finale thread. It was pretty obvious if you paid attention (no blood). I was a little off on why they faked it though, but close enough.

Re: NCIS: Los Angeles -- Season 4 -- Tuesdays (CBS)
Callen need to kill the Chameleon but couldn't get his hands dirty doing it so by turning him over to the Iranians they would kill him and their spy network in Iran would be protected.
Hetty's resignation apparently was needed to sell the whole ruse. It did raise some questions. That she killed the bald dude I think is a given. Don't mess with Hetty. I figured the cops were in on it but since we seldom see other operatives I didn't know they were NCIS agents.
As to the fake shooting I'd thought the gun had blanks and the vest was rigged with hollywood explosive rounds since at that close of a range it would have hurt like a bitch to be shot.

Might have been one of those times where they just retcon the crap out of it. Writers wrote themselves into a corner and then couldn't find a good way out so they say the part 1 did it this way when it sure wasn't intended when part 1 was written.

It was clear they weren't going to have Callen kill they guy in cold blood but I love that the writers basically let Hetty cap her nemesis. The whole thing did get a bit convoluted toward the end but at least they wrapped it up quick.

Re: NCIS: Los Angeles -- Season 4 -- Tuesdays (CBS)
the shooting/arrest thing being faked/part of a Hetty plan wasn't surprising
the real usb drive not being in the briefcase wasn't too surprising, it would have been really sloppy for agents with experience, or even rookies, to be running around with the drive still in a briefcase which could easily be separated from the person
I was multitasking towards the end though and sort of missed why they turned the Highlander over though

NCIS: Los Angeles (CBS) -- Series Thread

NCIS: LOS ANGELES is a drama about the high-stakes world of a division of NCIS that is charged with apprehending dangerous and elusive criminals that pose a threat to the nation's security. By assuming false identities and utilizing the most advanced technology, this team of highly-trained agents goes deep undercover, putting their lives on the line in the field to bring down their targets. Special Agent "G" Callen is a chameleon who transforms himself into whomever he needs to be to infiltrate the criminal underworld. His partner is Special Agent Sam Hanna, a former U.S. Navy SEAL who has seen action in both Afghanistan and Iraq. Assisting the team is the all-knowing Henrietta "Hetty" Lange, who oversees the staff and is tasked with providing everything from micro-surveillance cameras to cars for the team; Special Agent Kensi Blye, the exceptionally bright daughter of a slain Marine who lives for the adrenaline rush that comes with undercover work; Marty Deeks, a seasoned LAPD undercover detective who was recruited to the team by Hetty; Tech Operator Eric Beale, who has mastered every gadget and computer in the Ops Center; and the recent addition, Intelligence Analyst Nell Jones, who won the team's respect with her spot-on intelligence assessments and her shrewd insights. Armed with the latest in high tech gear and sent regularly into life-threatening situations, this tight-knit unit relies on each other to do what is necessary to protect national interests.
BTW, Daniela Ruah is pregnant. It won't be written into the show. The father is Eric Christian Olsen's brother.
So please don't start any individual episode threads for NCIS or NCIS LA. It would be a waste of time. Do a search.

I'm not a fan of Deeks and part of me hopes the writers use this opportunity to get him off the show but I know that's not going to happen. The premiere did make me like Deeks just a bit but I still do not buy that he and Kensi should be romantically involved. I guess we'll start to see Rush sitting behind a lot of desks come mid-season to hide the pregnancy.
