Re: Primetime TV Ratings - Part IV (2009-2010 Season)

Very nice!

The Waters of Mars helped BBC America achieve its highest ever rating last Saturday.

Over 1.1 million watched the Doctor Who special on the channel giving it its highest ever prime time rating and making it 13th highest amongst advertising supported cable networks for ages 25-35.

Richard De Croce, Senior Vice President Programming, BBC AMERICA said

"The final specials starring David Tennant have opened the door for new audiences to this iconic series while taking longtime fans on an incredible journey, Tennant’s remaining two specials, The End of Time, Part One and Part Two, are the most anticipated episodes in the history of the series – which is why we’re airing them just a day after their UK premiere."

The End of Time airs on BBC America over the next two Saturdays, with Part One at 9pm ET on the 26th followed by Part Two at 8.30 ET on 2nd January. To mark the importance of the programme to the channel, Doctor Who has taken over the front page of the BBC America website, with video clips and images from the specials.

TV Ratings: CBS rules Wednesday, despite adult love for Grinch, ABC comedies

By Hanh Nguyen

December 24, 2009 9:14 AM

Fast National ratings for Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009

CBS' "11th Annual Home for the Holidays" adoption-awareness special hosted by Faith Hill and NBC's hour of "Jay Leno" were the only fresh programming for Wednesday night, but it was CBS' reruns of crime procedurals that eventually gave it the ratings win.

CBS topped the evening with 8.9 million viewers and a 5.7 rating/10 share in households, significantly ahead of second-place finisher ABC with 4.9 million viewers and a 3.0/5. This was followed by FOX (3.72 million, 2.3/4), ABC (3.65 million, 2.3/4) and The CW (737,000, 0.5/1).

CBS also took the 18-49 adult demo title, but just barely. Its 1.7 rating was just ahead of ABC's 1.6 from its slate of comedy reruns (and one Grinch that appealed to adult viewers as well). FOX had a 1.3, NBC a 0.9 and The CW brought up the rear with a 0.3.

NBC: "Mercy" repeat (3.7 million, 2.3/4)
FOX: "Glee" repeat (3.6 million, 2.2/4)
The CW: "One Tree Hill" repeat (907,000, 0.6/1)

18-49 leader: "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!/The Middle" (1.9)

9 p.m.

CBS: "Criminal Minds" repeat (10.2 million, 6.5/11)
ABC: "Modern Family" repeat (5.6 million, 3.3/6), "The Middle" repeat (4.3 million, 2.7/5)
FOX: "Glee" repeat (3.9 million, 2.4/4)
NBC: "Mercy" repeat (2.7 million, 41.7/3)
The CW: "Gossip Girl" repeat (567,000, 0.4/1)

18-49 leader: "Criminal Minds" (2.0)

10 p.m.

CBS: "CSI: NY" repeat (10.2 million, 6.5/12)
NBC: "The Jay Leno Show" (4.6 million, 2.9/5)

By Rick Porter

January 5, 2010 9:07 AM

Fast National ratings for Monday, Jan. 4, 2010

"The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love" landed with decent ratings on Monday, but FOX's coverage of the Fiesta Bowl carried the night.

"The Bachelor" had its best opening since the spring 2007 edition of the show, but the audience didn't carry over to "Conveyor Belt of Love," which fell off pretty sharply from its lead-in.

FOX won the night with 12.85 million viewers and a 7.6 rating/12 share in primetime to score a good-sized victory over CBS (9.4 million, 5.9/9). ABC's 8.5 million viewers and 5.7/9 were good for third. NBC (4.9 million, 3.1/5) finished fourth, and a night of reruns on The CW was way off the pace with just over 1 million viewers and a 0.6/1.

FOX also led the 18-49 demographic with a 4.2 rating. ABC took second with a 3.1, topping CBS' 2.7. NBC averaged 2.0 and The CW 0.4.

NBC: "Heroes" (5.3 million, 3.4/5)

ABC: Special - "Conveyor Belt of Love" (6.5 million, 4.3/7)

NCIS, NCIS LA and Good Wife are a pretty solid trio. 18M viewers for NCIS LA!! Wow!! However, Biggest Loser beat NCIS LA in the demos, which really matter.

Maybe the lower bowl game ratings will convince networks to return all the New Year's Day bowl games to New Year's Day, where they belong. I like the marathon football day, switching back and forth between games. But after New Years, I lose interest.

Well this is the last year for the BCS Bowl games on FOX. ESPN/ABC will have the rights starting next year.

So much for the after-New-Years ratings dip for college football. But think what the ratings for college games could be if they had a tournament.
