Top Chef Vegas - starts 19 Aug

Surprised no one has started a thread on this yet considering the new season has almost started (unless I overlooked it ;)). BTW as a heads up for Tivo owners. They changed the name of the series to "Top Chef: Vegas" so your old Top Chef season pass won't pick it up.

I cannot wait for a full night of Top Chef with the premiere of Vegas and the finale of Masters.

Awesome. Let hope less randomness from Toby or more background time for him like they did with each subsequent episode last season.

Bios for all the contestants

It will be good to have Gail back for a full season since she took most of Top Chef: New York off to get married.

It truly seems that they have assembled the 'best' collection of chefs yet. All of them seem extremely well trained and qualified.

Does this make anybody else both happy and expectant, but also worried?

Welp, I hate Mike already. He belongs on Hell's Kitchen with that asshole misogynistic attitude, except he seems to be able to actually cook.

Agreed.

Kevin and Jennifer are big stand-outs so far.

Too many tattoos this season. I definitely thought it was HK at first.

Eve should have went home. She's damn annoying with that voice and they all hated her dish and the concept. Jennifer looked as if she had potential down the road.

So what's the schedule here - Gail on one episode. Toby on another? And so on? BOO!

LiquidSky - I agree Kevin and Jennifer are ahead of the pack right now.

Can't stand Eli right now. His face irks me.

I totally agree with you that Eve should have gone instead of Jen. They both sucked, but at least Jen was ballsy in what she attempted. Eve just seems totally overmatched and clueless. I couldn't stand to listen to her speak, and her "vice" was utterly ridiculous. I can't say that I am going to miss having to look at Jen's horribly stretched out ears, though. To each their own, but that shit seems beyond asinine to me. I don't really mind when it's done on a smaller scale, but that fucking huge? Sheesh.

I have friends that are really pulling for Eve because they are huge fans of her restaurant here in Ann Arbor. I have never been there before, I checked out the menu and there doesn't seem to be much for vegetarians. But it is supposed to be really good.

Jen's dish looked horrid!

And I'm curious to see how far the brothers go.

Preeti was horrible in the mise en place relay

As my girlfriend and I have started doing with reality shows, we each picked 2 cheftestants that we think will take it. Since I won on Next Food Network Star, I got to pick first and chose Jennifer. With her first pick, she chose my second pick, Kevin... also my namesake, much like she had done on Hell's Kitchen. As a result, my second choice ended up being Brian. I wanted one of the brothers and basically did a coin flip to choose him. With her second, she picked "The guy who made something with Eggplant in the Quickfire."... was that ANYone?

Michael from Jersey who is quite the foul-mouth narrator (so he will probably be here for a while) made the fish (which looked like a bar of soap) and eggplant.

Or Ash made the fish with Ratatouille.

Edit: This was the elimination round though. I don't think anyone made anything with eggplant in the quickfire since there were only a few competing.

Ron is so real and his vice puts everybody to shame. He's not really sure what a vice is but who cares. Eli's all "when I eat scallops I just want to dance!" and Ron says, "My vice is all the fish I ate in the hold of the ship that took 26 days to get me to America from Haiti." Yahtzee! I want to see him knock the seitan out of Jennifer's hands.

Yeah, thumbs down on the tattoos and ears--it's just unappetizing to me. And there were a few people with weak "vices" but I guess the food was the bottom line, which is OK with me.

Looks like they're setting up Mike to be the villain early on.

I assume the cooks in the middle also got feedback on their dishes but that was cut for time.

Re: Top Chef Vegas - starts 19 Aug

Yup, agree way too many Tatts this season.

Jen's wacked ears/ear rings were an eye sore to look at. As for her cooking, her dish did not look at all. I think it was a toss up between her and Eve, but I was cool with her leaving.

Noticed how Padma gave the extra Indian annunciation in Preeti's name.

You know, I wasn't crazy about this 1st challenge cooking their Vice. Honestly, I had no idea what a Vice was initially until it started making sense later in the episode.

Gail looked really hot at judges table.

Looks like a fun season. Thanks for posting the link to the bios; there were two that I couldn't tell if they were guys or girls. Now I know.

Good episode. It will be fun to watch the brothers compete.

Glad to see Ms. Shrimp gone. For some reason she got on my nerves. Jadzia: should I check out her restaurant next time I'm in Michigan? :)

This season is going well, they are getting rid of the weak folks off the bat..

The guys really seemed to nail it this week, and the brothers are fun.

Jennifer seems super strong, and Marine came in good this week..
