She can also get married as well just as long as it is to a man (and to a woman in a couple of states).
My point is still valid as she is out as a lesbian apparently and could not serve openly in the military.

Very good episode tonight, and again the front runner are miles ahead.

I don't think I've yet to see a season with a cast where there are 4 Rockstars, and the rest are so ho-hum

Michael
Brian
Jennifer
and
Kevin

rockstars.

Also I love Hubert Keller so so much!!

From Tom's recap..

.

In general, a lot of the dishes succeeded. Kevin’s bacon jam was so good that while I have never before used any of the dishes that have come out of these challenges, I went home after shooting the season and immediately began working on a bacon jam – I worked it into a softshell crab dish that was on my Tom: Tuesday Dinner menu.

It’s funny – at this stage of the competition, we knew the chefs well enough to know that the winning dish was in the style of cooking that Bryan does, that it just didn’t seem like a Michael Isabella dish.

That was one of the easiest judge's tables to figure out who was going home. It was clear it was Hector.

Mattin dodged a bullet, per Tom's blog.

was looking at the blogs on the top chef site.

This is supposed to be Richard Blais:

What happened?

Looks like he spent too much time in a sous-vide bath.

I missed the very first season, but have watched the other 4, I think Gail Simmons nailed it when she said none of the other seasons could have presented the same class of food in that episode that early in the competition.

It's also interesting to see the brothers compete as their cooking styles are so different yet both create exceptional food.

This is Jennifer's season to lose.

Which is odd considering they seemed to be disappointed with most of the dishes.

Someone on tivocommunity has said that Jennifer has pretty much only prepared stuff that's on the menu at the restaurant where she works so far.

Like somebody else said, there are 4 chefs that seem to be in a totally different class, but personally I think Kevin is the front runner.

I like Kevin a lot and think he shows a lot of potential for winning, I only fear that his "southern flair" will be his downfall. How many challenges can he present his single cooking style? Tom likes the contestants to get out of their comfort zone.

good episode , this show really does do things properly and doesn't have biases in who gets eliminated

not hard to work out which chefs will go next

To me Jen is the clear cut favorite. It's definitely her season to lose. I think Kevin could be a darkhorse if Jen flounders later on.

Great seeing Hubert Keller again. Loved him in Top Chef Masters.

I know cooking off the top of your head is difficult enough, but why does every Chef seem to finish at the last possible second. It just seems that everyone is really poor at time management. I would be much more comfortable and confidant in my final product if I had an extra 5 minutes to spare. I mean Hector cutting his Meat and Ash throwing the sauce on w/ 2 mins left was really really poor execution.

BDB 09-13-09 10:39 AM

Re: Top Chef Vegas - starts 19 Aug

Well they don't want the meat cooked 30 mins early, and have it sitting under heat lamps still cooking.

Has to be timed as close to the finish as possible, so that it can get to the judges.
I do wonder if it's staggered ?

You know teams staggerered 5 mins apart for the 2 hours of cooking? As the judges have to take 2-3 mins to have it brought out and taste it and do a little discussion.

I think a lot of the time issues has to do with editing too.

Arghh.

Twitter ruined tonights ep. My fault for following chefs who are on the show..

Pretty good episode. It wouldn't be a challenge if they weren't challenged, but I find their work in an actual kitchen to be far more entertaining than these thrown for a loop/random location challenges.

Jen looked pissed when she wasn't in the winners group. This show is floating right now, but I see can them throwing a curveball soon making one of the favorites-to-win mess up.

They need to institute a "no ceviche" rule. I'm getting tired of that cop-out.

Big Boy Laroux 09-18-09 12:37 AM

Re: Top Chef Vegas - starts 19 Aug

well, in this case, it was the ceviche that was the loser. Even ron's ceivche wasn't that great. So if the contestants want to keep doing them to their own detriment, I have no issue with that.

But i do agree we've seen a lot of them. it's like Jamie and the scallops last season. I the words of Fabio - "It's Top Chef, not Top Scallop"

Well its clear now that the brothers are the favorite, and I do think all Jenn ever does is cook the stuff that is on her menu. Not that thats bad, but it doesnt really bring anything interesting. And just a few more eps to go until the low hanging fruit gets cleared away and the real competition begins.

That's when it gets really good. I love when only the best people are left and have to duke it out.

Don't overlook Kevin as a legitimate contender. Tom is absolutely in love with his bacon jam from last week's episode.

While I think Bryan is the front runner, I think it will be Kevin and Jenn along with him in the finals. Kevin is just straight up intelligent, methodical, and very skilled. I just don't think he has the breadth of style that Bryan does...
