Mad Men/AMC scheduling question

Now that I'm all caught up on season 1 and 2 of Mad Men, I'm looking forward to the new season on Sunday. Problem is, my cable company won't be adding AMC HD until September 5, so I'll miss the first few episodes. I'd hate to have to watch them letterboxed on the 'normal' AMC channel. So my question for those who watched the first 2 seasons live...do they ever repeat the episodes later on? I know a lot of cable channels run the same episodes over and over, but I can't say I've ever watched AMC. Like, would they rerun the first few episodes during the week of episode 4 or 5? I'm guessing they probably don't, but I figured it was worth checking.

They've had mini-marathons halfway through the season before.

Re: Mad Men/AMC scheduling question

If I remember correctly they do replay them throughout the week.

But in my opinion if you are really excited about it, having to watch one episode in SD isn't the end of the world.

Time Warner doesn't have AMC HD either, I'll be waiting until it comes to Bluray.

Why? Your going to wait until possibly June or July 2010 just to see this in Hi-Def Blu Ray? As Scott says, just suck it up and watch it.

Do you have something better to do on Sunday nights?

Yeah. It sucks. I might just wait to watch these at my mom's later in the fall assuming Comcast has it HD On Demand.

I'd blame Rainbow Media, they are the dicks that don't let their HD channels on other providers like Directv, Dish, and Fios.

I really think it takes something away watching it in a tiny box. I think I'd rather wait for the Blu-ray.

Edit: My cable company is getting AMC HD on September 5th! Woo-Hoo!

i don't know what this tiny box you speak of is, but i loved the hell out of the first two seasons watching on a 27" Sony when it originally aired. and now even more so rewatching on SD-DVD. a great show is a great show whether it is HD or fuzzy black and white.

Given the letterboxing for the SD feed, if you are watching the AMC in SD, it's probably taking up about only 60% of your HD-screen (not the same as watching the SD-DVD).

I can say this - of all the SD-only feeds on DirecTV, AMC's is one of the worst when it comes to PQ. ESPNU is the only one worse off the top of head.

This is exactly what I mean. Letterbox + SD feed = unable to watch more than 30 seconds.

That must only be by you. A friend of mine in NY has TWC and has AMC HD.

Re: Mad Men/AMC scheduling question

Strangely, here in Muskegon, I only have AMC in SD, but Mad Men is available On Demand in HD, so if AMC puts the episodes up On Demand shortly after the airing, I might just wait for it to appear there and watch it in full HD on my 52". If not, I'll record Mad Men on my Tivo hooked up to my 27" SDTV and watch it on that one.

I don't know why I allow myself to still be shocked by how spoiled people can be these days.

Watch the show for the characters, acting, story arc and just enjoy it instead of worrying about technical bullshit.

Re: Mad Men/AMC scheduling question

I don't own an HDTV yet, but all I care about is seeing the actors (Hamm, Jones, Hendricks, Slattery etc), the set design and stories.

To be turned off because the show doesn't look good on a 52 inch TV sounds really ticky tack. I can't imagine it would be that horrible/unwatchable like trying to watch a show with shitty reception on some bunny ear antennas.

+1

Plus it's not like shows in the 1960's were in HD and widescreen. Watching it window-boxed on my HDTV seems rather authentic.

It's a period show - a huge part of show is the look (the wardrobe, sets, etc) and one of the biggest reasons why I enjoy it so much. I've sucked up the first 2 seasons in SD (no it doesn't make the show "unwatchable"). Then I happened to be at my mom's and she was catching up with eps on-demand, and my jaw dropped when I saw how it looked in HD.

So, assuming I have a little patience (I may not), I have the option to wait and watch episodes a month or 2 later on my mom's Comcast OD in HD. I've waited the better part of a year for new episodes, so what's a few months more?

I don't know why some of you think doing this is so terrible, particularly in a DVD forum where most people do care about things like PQ, and a lot of people routinely wait for shows to come out on DVD so they can watch them in a row. I guess I can see it for those who haven't gone HD yet. I also don't know why people care how, when, or why other people watch the show.
