I'll echo Mr. Eko from Lost.

Dr. Greene on ER was awesome, but his character had run its course, same with a few others, like Mulder.

I'll speak out on David Caruso's behalf on NYPD: Blue. Jimmy Smits was an excellent replacement, but going back and watching those early episodes with Caruso makes you realize why he thought he could jump ship. He was excellent on that show.

I'll also toss out Coach Pantuso on Cheers. Woody was great in his own way but Coach was on another level by comparison.

One last 'given' is Michael J. Fox on Spin City. The show went from a quirky ensemble to the Heather Locklear and Charlie Sheen show.

It's interesting reading that because I liked Doggett as well and it always seems like there was a decent amount of support for his character, he was just riddled with two seasons of crap stories. It reminds me of Lawrence Fishburne on C.S.I. The character is interesting enough and fits well with the cast but the storylines he's been given have been terrible.

Charlie died in the Season 3 finale of "Lost." He appeared in at least one episode after that, but only for a few minutes as a guest star.
