Manager: Paula Abdul ‘Hurt,’ ‘Angry,’ May Not Return To ‘Idol’
LOS ANGELES, Calif.
Paul Abdul may not return to “American Idol” for a ninth season, her manager claimed in a new interview with the Los Angeles Times.
“She’s not a happy camper as a result of what’s going on. She’s hurt. She’s angry,” David Sonenberg, the “Idol” judge’s manager, told the newspaper on Friday.
David, who said that he became Paula’s manager just weeks ago, at the end of June, added that he has yet to receive a proposal for a new contract for Paula.
“I find it under these circumstances particularly unusual; I think unnecessarily hurtful,” he said. “I find it kind of unconscionable and certainly rude and disrespectful that they haven’t stepped up and said what they want to do.”
The result of the stalled negotiations, David said, is that Paula is unlikely to be back on the show she’s judged for eight previous seasons.
“Very sadly, it does not appear that she’s going to be back on ‘Idol,’” he said.
Paula herself took her Twitter page to address the situation on Saturday, though she didn’t elaborate on the details.
”I’m actually moved 2 tears upon reading the enormous amount of tweets showing me your kindness, love, & undying support. God bless all of you!,” she Tweeted. “If it weren’t for you, this specific time and situation would feel a whole lot worse!”
Her manager’s remarks come on the heels of the news of show host Ryan Seacrest’s new contract, a reported $45 million, three-year deal that makes him the highest-paid reality host on television.
Judge Simon Cowell is also in negotiations to renew his contract, while third judge Randy Jackson is attached to the show through 2011.
Auditions for Season 9 begin on August 6, with the show set to return in January.

I wouldn't miss her.
Kara could easily fill her spot and keep the panel at 3.

So, I'm confused, who the hell is sitting in at the auditions going on right now? I mean they have already taped auditions in Boston, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, LA, Orlando and Denver according to the American Idol web site.
If Paula isn't under contract and Simon is waiting for a new deal, then how are they managing to tape these auditions with no judges?

In the premliminary audtions that are going on now the judging is being done by the producers. You have to go through two auditions before you get to perform for Simon and the others.

Simon and her are the only judges worth listening to for different reasons. The other 2 can be replaced by shrubbery.

It seems to me the producers had this planned since the introduction of Kara... or at the very least they were using Kara to put Paula on notice.

So, once they get the judges under contract, they will call back all those contestants in each of those cities to audition for the real judges at a later date? I always assumed the judges were part of this summer audition tour. That's weird. If that's the case, the AI people better fucking hurry and re-sign everyone.

Yeah that is the impression I got when I read that article yesterday before it was posted here. I think her having an agent is dangerous because she is nutty enough she doesn't need someone putting ideas in her head.

They'll never get rid of her. Without Simon and Paula, the show is toast. And everyone is currently in contract negotiations; Seacrest was the first to cave in to the tune of $45 million for a three year contract.

Every year there's some stupid tabloid drama about someone not returning (usually Simon), getting kicked off (usually Paula) or coming out of the closet (usually Seacrest). And in the end, it doesn't amount to anything. Wake me when something actually happens.

I don't get why some fans are going ape shit crazy about this. Paula was useless. At least Kara being an actual singer/songwriter offers valid criticism without sugar coating it like how Paula does every year. The music business is tough and there is going to be alot of heartbreak and doors closing in your face. You don't need someone like Paula giving you delusions of grandeur.

Good riddance. She's lucky to have retained her job after that "scandal" of her screwing around with that one contestants.
$20 million? Jesus! She was a has-been for years before IDOL premiered. She's going to back to obscurity now.

I personally dislike Kara and thought Paula worked great as a counterpoint to Simon. It is a loss in my opinion to the show.
