Even though it got renewed for 2 more seasons, I think FNL was hurt by being buried on Friday Nights by NBC and it's horrendously low viewership.
It probably didn't get enough attention from the Emmy voters.

surprising Kevin Dillon got nominated and not Piven.
did they always have that many nominated drama and comedy shows or are they pulling an Oscars?

I don't get why more actors or actresses from Big Love didn't get individual recognition? You can point to any of the leads, and much of the supporting cast, as examples of great dramatic acting? I think its comical that Cherry Jones gets nominated for best supporting over say Amanda Seyfried (the daughter from Big Love). Jones was fine on 24 and all, but 24 is not really the home of exemplary acting. It's all kind of hammy and corny if you ask me.

for giving a nod to Kristen Chenowith and her "supporting ( )( )" cast.

Thanks because I agree but I hope that they don't let it get to them when they are writing the new stuff, and make the show all about him because I would start to not like it just like the Carell heavy eps of The Office.

Family Guy nominated for best comedy series? Really? To me it seems a little insulting that it gets a nomination when I don't believe The Simpsons or South Park ever have and are both ten times the show Family Guy is or ever has been. It shouldn't get anything beyond best animated series if you ask me but whatever.

As for Tony Shalhoub and the like, I think that they tend to get comfortable with nominating actors from long-running series, and they just drop them in the pot every year. Monk has gone down a very steep slope since season 4.

Good point. Stoked to see him nominated, though I'm somewhat surprised it's in lead, not supporting.

Some reactions
Found this one to be the funniest:
"I didn't find out until I checked my messages while walking the dog," John Slattery said of his nomination for supporting actor in a drama series. "I was bending over picking up dog shit, but doing it while finding out something like this is the best way." The "Mad Men" actor didn't expect the nomination, but is excited about the show's many nom, saying, "It's great to be part of a show that isn't everywhere yet, it's on the ascendance." With filming for "Mad Men" beginning in the early morning and continuing until past midnight, Slattery has little time to celebrate. "It's all work and family right now," he said, adding that the nom is "gratifying. It shows that it's time well spent."
Aaron Paul.. so happy for him!:
Aaron Paul was struggling for words after receiving his first-ever Emmy nomination: supporting actor in a drama series for his role as Jesse Pinkman on AMC's "Breaking Bad." Paul, who put in a long day of shooting Wednesday, promised himself he would sleep through the nominations and found out the news after his manager called over and over until he woke up. "I'm so thrilled to even be associated with the other nominees, it's unbelievable," he said. "I've been screaming all morning with my girlfriend and my buddy; we're all freaking out together. I just love doing what I do, and I'm so lost for words. I'm so happy for everyone on the show and the show being nominated and Bryan (Cranston) being nominated again; it's such an incredible feeling."

No love for Battlestar Galactica, Chuck and Friday Night Lights in the top categories? Boo!
My favorite nomination was Jim Parsons for The Big Bang Theory. He's the best part of the show and would be my upset special for the Emmys.
Christine Baranski's nomination for TBBT as Leonard's mom was well-deserved. She was perfect as Leonard's mom what with her banter with Sheldon.

Re: 2009 Emmy Nominations
These nominations are so predictable and bland for the most part. How anyone could possibly vote for the likes of Mariska Hargitay over Mary McDonnell is beyond human comprehension. Or Simon Baker instead of Michael Chiklis, & absolutely nothing for CCH Pounder. They've got to be pulling our leg with the William Hurt nom.
I'm glad Chenoweth got a nod, ditto with Jane Krakowski & Gabriel Byrne. But to continue overlooking The Shield & Battlestar Galactica is just shameful.

The thing that pisses me off the most about the emmys is seeing the same show win year after year. No point in watching because everyone will be drooling over themselves as 30 Rock wins everything again.

Re: 2009 Emmy Nominations
I was disappointed by TRUE BLOOD's snub...but HBO has been spoiled with Emmy riches in the past.
I was very happy with the LITTLE DORRIT nods, though I'd love to have seen some recognition for the actresses.
THE AMAZING RACE wins every year and deserves to. One of these days another reality competition show will finally win, but TAR is still the best in my book.

Great news for Breaking Bad. It'd be great if Cranston and Paul both won their respective categories.
Insane that Family Got nominated. The Simpsons hasn't ever been nominated for Best Comedy. I could see nominating Family Guy in its prime, but this year? No way.

Re: 2009 Emmy Nominations
This wasn't exactly Family Guy's best year but, if you actually sit back and pay attention to the animation like in the Road to Germany episode it's just awesome and it doesn't hurt that its the highest rated animated show on tv.
