George "Superman" Reeves died 50 years ago today...

On June 16, 1959, actor George Reeves, star of TV's "Superman" series, with an acting career going back to GONE WITH THE WIND (1939), went to an upstairs bedroom during a party at his home and was found dead with a shot to the head after guests heard a shot ring out. He supposedly killed himself, although that conclusion has been questioned in recent years.

Anyway, that was 50 years ago today. Time to dig out some "Superman" episodes and appreciate Reeves' contribution these five decades later.

I never really got into the early Superman TV show, even though I would occasionally catch it on TV Land. What little I saw had a bit too much of the film serial camp to it for my tastes. One thing I recall is that whenever I watched Superman seemed to have an extra power I had never heard of before, like the ability to walk through walls or turn invisible.

I can't believe that in the last 50 years no one had thought to say that before now.

I really enjoyed the recent flick based on that, Hollywoodland.

Hollywoodland was a great film. A lot of shows like Unsolved Mysteries, 20/20 etc have done segments on Reeves' death.
