I like the show... think they do alot of interesting things to make the cakes. Agree that some of their designs are mostly decorative and not edible, but 'cake' isn't a great structural element for alot of the stuff they do. Think the prices for their cakes have skyrocketed due to popularity of the show, my girl looked into them one time and there was an 8 month waiting list.

While the 'Challenge' shows cakes may be more appealing taste/design wise.. they have problems moving most of them 5 feet to the table, much less across town/state. So there is the practicality aspect also.

Its a cake people. Not a Ferrari.

The challenge should be they actually make a cake. Not fondant covered rice crispies, with wooden dowels and plastic supports. That's a sculpture not a cake.
