AD vs Simpsons is very tough. Simpsons has so many classic episodes and I haven't seem most of the "bad" seasons. AD was consistantly good. I went with the Simpsons as I have probably watch more of it than any other show.

Easy choices.

1) Don't care about either show

2) Cheers is the gold standard for comedy for me. Seinfeld may have been more outrageous, and therefore caused more laughter the first time through, but the reruns expose the show as depending entirely too much on a big reveal gag and very bad acting. At the time, I thought TV Guide was crazy to think so highly of Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, but hindsight has not been kind to Jason Alexander or Michael Richards.

3) I actually care less about this match than Match 1.

4) The Sopranos. Hands down.

LOST -- The Office is entertaining, but LOST has been second or third on my viewing priority (behind The Shield and Burn Notice) for most of its run.

Seinfeld -- This is an entertaining matchup. The bias toward newer shows will do Cheers in, and indeed I'm not voting for it. This is very much THE sitcom of the 80s versus THE sitcom of the 90s, though. It's almost a pity there has to be a winner.

Arrested Development -- Never a fan of the Simpsons, and AD was pretty much like comedy crack right from the start.

The Shield -- The best crime drama on cable versus the overhyped David Chase show with the disappointing ending that was never as good as season one and couldn't be relied on to have a normal annual season. Yeah, hands down it's The Shield.

I always want to find a reason to call The Sopranos "over-hyped," but when I actually watch the show I simply can't find one. I wish the series had maintained its initial focus on Tony as a a suburban dad...who happens to work in the mob...rather than the shifted emphasis on the mafia angle at the expense of the family life. Still, I was rarely disappointed and often held rapt through each episode.

I won't argue the schedule's inconsistency, other than to say I actually liked the effect. It kept me from ever taking the show for granted because I didn't know for sure when it would be back. Nearly every other show, I could pretty much pencil in when it would return and when its season would end; not so for The Sopranos, and that helped make it feel like each episode really was special.

Also, I loved the ending of the series. I absolutely busted up laughing when the credits started rolling. So many series have gone for the Big Payoff Series Finale Episode Where Every Character's Arc Is Resolved that I thought it was not only refreshing, but very realistic, of The Sopranos to go out the way it did.
