Re: "V" on ABC this Fall (pics and video!)
i dunno about this. i loved the two original miniseries, so much so that i had to leave peewee football practice early to watch one of them. i think why it still holds up now is the absolute cheesiness of the look and feel. i wish they would have even kept the same character names at least: Julie, Donovan, Diana, Willie!, Martin.
with an update i don't think the old series will even be a glimmer and rightfully so, but i don't think it could hold up as well and the gloss makes it look like the other alien series' to come down the pike of which came and went pretty quickly.
i will watch of course.

Caught the pilot on Tuesday night at a friend's house who has some sort of affiliation with ABC.
Didn't care for the acting. The story was mildly entertaining. I'll give it a few more episodes, but the last 15 minutes was super-cheesy.

Looks dumb. I'd watch Morena read the phone book...but this...wow, doesn't seem at all like the original, unless my memory has really gone with old age.

I like the religious themes they seem to be working in. I don't remember much of that from the miniseries. I loved this show as a kid too, and had some of the toys, read some of the books and watched every episode.
I have high hopes for this.

I'll be there ... but I'm not sold. This is another vote for "I wish it was Sci-Fi, not ABC."
I agree that the religious theme may give it that necessary socio-political underpinning (for those who have not seen the original. it was akin to the Nazi party during WWII). I would have expected more of a play on the Bush years and expansion of government "protection" while eroding citizens rights (it would have been more timely) ... but that may still be there (after hearing the line about the Visitors having been here for years).
And I know it is cheesy, but what's up with the "normal" voices? I will admit, I can't wait to see what they have done with the Visitor "look."

The reason Ken Johnson's mini-series worked so well is because it was an allegory on the Holocaust. The new version just simply seems to be a "lets rip off Ken Johnson's idea" with better special effects and a more attractive cast.

I picked up the original mini-series, the follow-up mini-series, and the regular series for dirt cheap for my wife for Christmas. We will definitely be tuning in. Wow, I wrote the word "for" in my first sentence a lot.

Some promising news from The Hollywood Reporter this last week:
Not that that's any indication of how well it'll do in the ratings, but at least it's a positive comment! :P
Of the dozen series screened for clients throughout the day, it was "V," a cross between "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and "Star Trek," that got the most upbeat comments from buyers, several of who termed it "highly cinematic" and "full of interesting characters."

Huh. I don't think of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (alien lifeforms duplicating humans to take over the planet), or "Star Trek" (humans exploring space), when I think of "V".

Most critics' knowledge of science fiction pretty much starts and stops with Star Trek, so as soon as there's aliens involved, it's "Star Trek meets [fill in the blank]."

While I doubt that the descriptions are very accurate, I wouldn't assume that this V will necessarily be a duplicate of the V we already know.
