I enjoyed Murphy's WB show Popular, which is probably closer in theme to this show than Nip/Tuck, so I'll give this a chance. Actually, I enjoyed the first season of Popular, when the drama-to-camp ratio was balanced. In the second season it cranked up the camp too high and became too over-the-top for my tastes. Hopefully Glee keeps that under control.

I look forward to the bizarro third season where normal plotlines will take a back seat to a mysterious serial killer.

wow, this is exactly like the sub-plot with Oz in American Pie.
But that doesn't mean it'll be bad. I'm actually interested in checking it out.

Re: Glee -- Series Premiere -- "Pilot" -- 5/19/09
Although I was a fan of Popular when I was in high school, I was never able to bring myself to like Nip/Tuck. That having been said, I had honestly not heard much about this show until the network upfronts were released.
All I have seen in regards to the show is the extended preview from this thread, and I cannot say I am impressed. While the last minute or so seems to delve into actual themes and emotion, the first bit appears far too campy for my taste. It has an almost self-aware schlockly feel to it, as if everyone is aware of the (seemingly) weak acting and premise.
However, I will push aside any trepidation I currently feel, and afford the show the opportunity to make a believer out of me.
(And, as much as I may like Jane Lynch, she is far from being any sort of comedic "god." Her schtick has already worn through with me, and I feel she needs to evolve slightly to truly become funny.)

I assume that other then Ryan Murphys name as creator, this will prob have little to no similarities to Nip/Tuck right? ie, should i get my dad to try to watch this, if he's a big fan of that show, but not to keen on teen comedies which this looks to be.

According to an article I read, part of their promotion is "word-of-mouth." They also ordered 13 episodes and plan to show those next fall - this showing of the pilot tonight is an idea the network is trying out.

also right after american idol, so if the pilot is popular (for sure it will get a lot of viewers no matter what), then the word of mouth will help it gain traction for the fall.

We've only watched the first 10 minutes so far, but as parents of a former show choir student who is now a high school choir director, there's more truth than not in this show.

I actually really liked it. Looking forward to more in the fall.
Their rendition of Don't Stop Believing was fantastic.
