Dollhouse -- Season Finale -- "Omega" -- 5/8/09

Dollhouse

Synopsis:

Spoiler:

The Season 1 finale finds Alpha's Echo obsession growing ever more dangerous, Ballard's search for the Dollhouse coming to a conclusion, an Active being permanently deactivated and another's surprising past coming to light. Stephen Kepler: Alan Tudyk.

This is it. Last episode of the season. We'll find out in a few weeks if this makes it for next Fall.

Can't wait. This has become one of the few shows I look forward to each week and watch the night it airs.

It'll be a shame, but not a suprise, if this doesn't get a renewal. They've consistently upped the ante' since week 6. I remember watching last week and thinking..."Wash is Alpha? Wtf!?!?!".

Considering the ratings (and from what I've heard, online and DVR numbers don't mean anything to a network, but maybe that's not true) this will certainly be the series finale. It was a hell of an interesting ride.

Is this the 12th episode? 13th to be a DVD-exclusive?

From what's been mentioned on this board countless times, we think that that is a "yes".

This was a good episode but not as good as some of the other finales I've seen this season I am sad to say (scrubs, and TSCC come to mind) but still very good mainly because Tudyk. That said now that we have seen the whole season doesn't it seem like Whedon had no intention of this show going past one season almost like they shot there whole load already and anything else will just be more of the same.

The double ANGEL/Firefly reference was cool.

Eh, I felt bad for Alan Tudyk, I thought he looked ludicrous filming his scenes where he was pointing a gun to the hard drive. It was just too comical to take seriously anymore.

In the end, I just didn't really care for its premise anymore. I got some enjoyment from the Amy Acker scenes, but the rest just felt like it was reaching way too far than the situation deserved.

I enjoyed it a lot. They did some interesting things and while I hope for a second season, I'd be satisfied if this were the end.

I wanted to enjoy it, but the whole thing kind of fell apart, plus Dushku was as bad as ever.

I guess crossing the streams of whatever must awaken all their memories because "Omega" was recalling stuff none of her imprints should have known, like Alpha attacking Whiskey.

Watching Alan playing crazy side by side with Dusku playing crazy illustrates the point of the Echo character not being a doll issue or a 'trying to get a residual personality on the doll' issue - it represents an ACTING issue.

I thought the show was pretty good, other than the pointing the gun at the hard drive part, and the drive hanging on the ledge and the hard drive being caught by Ballard... (basically any of the scenes where the hard drive was the main character and still it was somehow more sympathetic than Dushku) Even if it was fairly predictable Echo would turn on Alpha once imprinted.

And Acker looked smoking - they needed some more flashbacks of her being a doll!

Re: Dollhouse -- Season Finale -- "Omega" -- 5/8/09

I thought for sure they'd load Caroline on top of the other imprints and turn Echo into a "Super Doll" that the Caroline personality has control over. I suppose that would have made the show a lot more Buffy-like.

It will be interesting to see where they take this next season, if there is one. All in all, by the end of this episode not a lot seemed to be changed.

Agree on all counts, wirefan.

Unlike Alpha, the audience isn't psychotic, so I don't know why we were suppose to think a composite of Echo's imprints would be a killer like Alpha. I'm not sure if it was the script, the director or Dushku, but it would have worked a lot better if the imprint she had for most of the episode was more "natural born killer" and less pathetic, confused little girl.

I thought that the point was that he was a killer before ... the imprints just gave him more to draw on to become a super-killer.

Re: Dollhouse -- Season Finale -- "Omega" -- 5/8/09

I really enjoyed the finale. I was left with a couple of questions, one of which was why would Echo allow herself to be wiped again at the end, seeing that she seemed to finally be aware of what was happening? I guess she must still be susceptible to the whole "Are you ready for a treatment?" thing.

It also doesn't seem that we have learned the Dollhouse's true purpose?

If there is a second season, it will be interesting to see Ballard working for the Dollhouse, and how he justifies that to himself... probably be cause he now sees it as the only way he can save Caroline?

Yep. His soul was that of a killer, putting 45 memories into his head just made him a super killer.

Look at Echo - with 35 (or however many) memories in her head, she was able to sort them out and use them to make herself stronger, and not a killer, since she wasn't a killer to begin with.

It was an OK series, I will not miss it if this really is the last aired episode. Though the 13th episode that looks to be on DVD only - is that the true finale or an episode to be inserted somewhere in the middle?

And I also missed the Firefly reference (never watched Angel) - what was it?

I don't remember word-for-word (hopefully someone here can quote it) but basically when Ballard mentions to Topher the idea that you can't take a person's soul even if their memories are gone, Topher says something along the lines of 'putting your soul in a jar full of fireflies'.

That is a reference to Angel's soul - once removed from him and placed in a jar (to resurrect Angelus in season 4 of the show) and of course 'fireflies' was a simple name-drop.

That's why that made me double take when watching it. Thanks.

Re: Dollhouse -- Season Finale -- "Omega" -- 5/8/09

Looks like we could be hearing some bad news sooner or later about the fate of Season 2...

Updated Friday Ratings: Dollhouse sinks to series low in finale
I still haven’t seen the overnight report, but James Hibberd reports Dollhouse was seen by 2.8 million viewers and earned a 1.0 preliminary adults 18-49 rating. There was apparently some overrun from Prison Break which might impact Dollhouse’s numbers (possibly for the better) when it’s factored out. Prison Break drew 3 million and a .9 adults 18-49 rating.

They aren't memories-- they're personalities.

The 13th episode is unrelated to the main plot of the show.
Spoiler:
It apparently takes place post-apocalypse-- or at least part of it does.

I'd watch an entire show with just her being a stripper. And it would be my favorite show.

I thought it was a really good finale. It served nicely as a season (or series) ender although there are still a few threads I'd like to see explained. I'm pulling for a second season, but not getting my hopes up.
