When Victor was channeling Dominic it was eerily perfect. Most of the cast on here has some chops. Poor Victor. I'm wondering if Alpha does that to dolls (assuming Saunders is one) in order to prevent the doll house from using them out in the field.

Yeah, Alpha's reveal was very well handled and actually surprising. I haven't experienced that in a long while. Bravo.

Again, as with last week, the trailer for the next episode seemed to give away a whole lot, but in hindsight, last week's trailer didn't give away as much as I had thought.

I just finished watching the episode and was coming in here to post that very thing. Seeing as how he killed security people when he escaped, he probably wouldn't kill the dolls, Dolls/Actives and instead scarred them so they couldn't be used on future missions, thus Saunders was probably a Doll and they imprinted her with false memories of being a child and coming to work at the Dollhouse as a Doctor and similarly altered her recollection of Alpha scarring her face.

This episode was fantastic. Everything, from Echo's mission to the break-in was thoroughly enjoyable and kept me engaged and wondering what would happen next. And let me just say, love how Ballard dumped November and tracked her to the Dollhouse. This show started off very, very rocky and has really gained momentum. I hope it stays on for another season. I think one thing that this show has to its advantage, and that will probably give it a second go-around, is that it is headed by Whedon; FOX knows he has a loyal fanbase and knows that they really dropped the ball when they canceled Firefly, so I imagine they are going to try and see how this one plays out for a little while longer before giving it the can.

I had some suspicions that Tudyk was Alpha during the episode, but wasn't entirely sure. It was still a shock when it was revealed. That being said, I am so glad they didn't go the route of Ballard being an Active. If they did that, I think I might have stopped watching the show because it would not have made any sense whatsoever. They are so worried about Alpha and yet, they have November spying on him and they know where he lives? If they had Ballard really be Alpha, the show would have completely fallen apart. So kudos to them for bringing in an entirely new actor.

Spoiler:
Whedon probably felt kinda bad about killing Tudyk off in Serenity and offered him this part, lol.
I do wonder which Whedon-alum will appear next on this show, aside from Felicia Day who will apparently make an appearance in Episode 13 on the DVD release.

It would require a bit of a stretch considering both shows exist in totally different universes, but David Boreanaz could easily show up as his "BONES" character Agent Seely Booth, helping out fellow FBI agent Ballard.

Won't ever happen but it would be a nice wink to the fans.

Re: Dollhouse -- "Briar Rose" -- 5/1/09

I suspected the guy was Alpha, but didn't know, and then like 2 seconds after the reveal I remembered the casting info spoiler I read a couple of months ago. I probably would have connected the dots earlier if I hadn't spent half the episode thinking it was the guy from Journeyman/Rome.

I'm not sure if it held up, but the actor playing Victor nailed Dominic in that first line delivery.

The "whiskey" line had me stumped too, but now it makes sense. It also made Alpha's scene with the doc make more sense too. Still, I though he killed all the dolls except Echo? But now I'm guessing that's just what the Doc believes and he really just scarred them like Victor.

It was funny but I rewatched the opening scene with the "bum" and besides the classic fingerless gloves, he wasn't as bum like as I first though. I guess he was just the real eco-nut dumpster diving.

I don't know why but I totally geeked out in the scene when Faith, Fred and Wash were all on screen.

Re: Dollhouse -- "Briar Rose" -- 5/1/09

Wow. I'm usually pretty good at guessing twists, but this one surprised me. I think it was smart to bring in someone new because it doesn't give the audience a chance to get familiar with the character and so when the twist came, it happened rather unexpectedly.

The way the storylines are going, Echo is kind of becoming a secondary character. The only reason that we've been given so far that she somehow stands out from the others is that Ballard is obsessed with her. In Whedon's other shows, the central character always has some characteristic that sets them apart from the others. Maybe he'll set that up with Echo's backstory, but right now, she's no different than any of the other dolls.

And yes, I agree that Saunders is a doll and that Alpha scars the dolls to make them unusable in the field. I don't think there was much room for misinterpretation there. If there's a next season, I'm betting that Whedon is going to start blurring the lines between who's a "good guy" and who's a "bad guy". If Alpha was to be an obvious bad guy, he would have killed Victor and Saunders. I'm betting he didn't.

Re: Dollhouse -- "Briar Rose" -- 5/1/09

Have we learned who initially sent the info about Caroline to Ballard? Are we supposed to think Alpha did that? It doesnt make much sense that he would have Ballard try and find her since we know he could get back in anytime he wanted. We also dont know who was working inside and sending the dolls to Ballard. Too many unanswered questions for this to get canceled in my opinion.

Well Alpha did send Ballard the picture of Caroline during the pilot. My guess is Alpha is still quite unstable. The reason I mention this is because while he was deactivating the security and messing with the filters, he was still playing the buffoon despite no one around to witness his shenanigans. I think he's essentialy has a multiple personality disorder and the knife happy persona is the usually dominant one. Whereas when he sent Ballard the photo is a more docile persona.

Why did Alpha bring Ballard to the Dollhouse anyway? If Alpha wanted to break in, he could've done it solo.

I think he was using Ballard as a means for himself to get Echo out. I think he figured that everyone would be concerned about Ballard and not even realize he was there doing what he was doing until it was too late.

For those who enjoyed Tudyk's comedic performance, you really owe it yourselves to rent "Death at a Funeral" -- a quirky British comedy. He literally steals this movie and had me in tears in a few scenes.

Great film I imported on HD DVD. He really does steal the film.

From TV Week:
It's a longshot, but the Jennifer Love Hewitt drama "Ghost Whisperer" could end up moving next season if CBS and ABC Studios can't come to an agreement on a new license fee agreement for the show.

Representatives for ABC, NBC and Fox have all been approached by ABC Studios about picking up "Ghost" should it become available, multiple industry insiders confirmed.

Some executives at Fox are intrigued by the idea of buying "Ghost" -- and possibly pairing it with a second season of Joss Whedon's "Dollhouse"

Terminator has already been cancelled.

I liked the fact that Topher was unconscious for most of the episode.

Ghost Whisperer and Dollhouse? That's...an odd pairing. Doesn't Ghost Whisperer skew pretty old?

I don't really see that happening.

Fringe would be good with Dollhouse, as long as its not on Friday.

I don't give it any chance of returning, though.

Ghost Whisperer moving to FOX is never going to happen. CBS is not going to lose their highest rated drama on Friday nights. Plus, the show is co-produced by CBS so they will find a way to bring it back.

What was the twist in the second half? I watched the first twenty minutes, got bored, and deleted it.

I'll go ahead and watch the series finale next week I guess.

One thing that I really like about Dollhouse is that it tells how long the commercial breaks are, thus how many times to press the "skip forward 30 seconds" button on my DVR.

Easily the best ep of the season.

Tudyk was awesome.

Loved the twist involving his character and the reveal about Saunders.

Victor's Dominick voice was spot on.
