The Amazing Race-- "Rooting Around In People's Mouths Could Be Unpleasant"-- 4/12/09

Synopsis: Spoiler:
Finally!! A new episode and they continue the leg in Bangkok. DVR alert. Although I doubt the Masters will go over 5 hours since it starts at 2pm ET, I would pad this episode just in case. |
Re: The Amazing Race-- "Rooting Around In People's Mouths Could Be Unpleasant"-- 4/12
The final group doesn't tee off until 2:35 so it will likely run over. I would definitely pad.
|
Re: The Amazing Race-- "Rooting Around In People's Mouths Could Be Unpleasant"-- 4/12
CBS is runing 39 minutes late due to Golf Coverage so pad accordingly.
|
Re: The Amazing Race-- "Rooting Around In People's Mouths Could Be Unpleasant"-- 4/12
As far as the last team was concerned, I could swear that other teams in past seasons have bartered their way thru the game when low/out of money. When did that become outlawed?
|
Re: The Amazing Race-- "Rooting Around In People's Mouths Could Be Unpleasant"-- 4/12
The brothers have been screw-ups from the beginning. I wish they were going home.
|
Re: The Amazing Race-- "Rooting Around In People's Mouths Could Be Unpleasant"-- 4/12
That one red head is an asshole.
|
Re: The Amazing Race-- "Rooting Around In People's Mouths Could Be Unpleasant"-- 4/12
Out of the frying pan, into the fire. How can a team bungle the rules in two consecutive legs like that? With that kind of penalty plus the speed bump, it looks like they're good as done. But stranger things have happened.
I'm guessing exchanging material goods in lieu of cash became a penalty with this race since I don't remember it being an issue previously, either. |
Re: The Amazing Race-- "Rooting Around In People's Mouths Could Be Unpleasant"-- 4/12
That denture detour was disgusting.
|
Re: The Amazing Race-- "Rooting Around In People's Mouths Could Be Unpleasant"-- 4/12
So how should they have settled up then? I guess it's to deter people from purposely packing valuables so I do understand it but I just don't know what the alternative would have been.
|
Re: The Amazing Race-- "Rooting Around In People's Mouths Could Be Unpleasant"-- 4/12
As hot as Jaime is, she is a real bitch. When will these racers learn, your cash and passport should NEVER leave your body or your partner.
I agree, that denture detour was nasty. |

Re: The Amazing Race-- "Rooting Around In People's Mouths Could Be Unpleasant"-- 4/12
Is that the first time an episode title has been taken from something Phil said, rather than one of the racers?
Seems like they've put in way too many extraneous rules recently. I actually agree with the one about bartering to settle bills, thus preventing people from packing valuables specifically for that purpose. But some of the other rules about what modes of transport you can take, etc. seem to take away from the fun and strategy of the race. I'll be annoyed if anyone other than Victor/Tammy or Luke/Margie wins it. The other teams all suck in a variety of ways. |
Re: The Amazing Race-- "Rooting Around In People's Mouths Could Be Unpleasant"-- 4/12
The only thing I remember people using to barter were those frat guys using their shoes last year, and they did purchase those with race money so I assume they would be eligible. In hindsight, it does make more sense now because they kept telling that cabbie that he could take their shoes.
One thing that has always been frustrating about the Amazing Race is the arbitrary nature of the non-elimination legs. I think it's fair to say that most Amazing Race watchers would have liked to have seen Mel and Mike saved two weeks ago by a non-elimination. Instead, they are gone, then no show for a week then come back and watch two teams deserve to go home and neither eliminated. Uh...ok. I'm sure they have to plan the non-elimination legs beforehand for legal purposes, but it still kinda sucks. |
Re: The Amazing Race-- "Rooting Around In People's Mouths Could Be Unpleasant"-- 4/12
They have made racers beg for money before; I guess that's what they were expecting them to do. But I really feel like racers have bartered before and not been penalized. I don't know ... weird.
Regardless, the brothers were told all the rules and they completed messed everything up -- again. They are SO screwed for the next leg. Just put them out of their misery now. The previews for the next ep looked great! Bring it on! |

Maybe it's just me. Anyone noticed Tammy is better looking this week?

Re: The Amazing Race-- "Rooting Around In People's Mouths Could Be Unpleasant"-- 4/12
It's weird how Keisha and her sister begged the cab driver to take them for free, and that is acceptable
Mark and Mike are fucked for the next leg, and I don't mind that at all. The 2 teams who left the bags behind were idiots. you don't do that, and especially not the fanny pack. |
Re: The Amazing Race-- "Rooting Around In People's Mouths Could Be Unpleasant"-- 4/12
Is anyone else finding the Luke to be just awful to watch? Luke basically does nothing except be an ass. I get the feeling he's had his mom do everything for him his entire life. Which probably explains why he never learned to read lips or interact with anyone with anyone he doesn't have a crush on. The preview for next week sorta seals the deal on his character for me.
I'm really glad they stopped after episode 2 with all the talk about how brave he is and how he's an inspiration to others. A giant baby like him actually gives anyone with disabilities a bad name. |

Mark and Mike are toast in the next leg. The speed bump is one thing, but being 3 hours and 10 minutes behind Kisha and Jen, who are already last is pretty much impossible. Couldn't believe how stupid they are were for leaving all their bags and documents behind. They are soooo lucky the driver didn't take off with their shit.
You know Jaime is kind of a bitch and I'll be honest, I kinda like a girl with a little bit of attitude. I don't think that she has done anything really disrespectful in the countries she's been in. The only thing about her is she's so God Damn impatient. I'm growing to re-like Tammy and Victor again as well. I'll be happy if either of those teams pull it out. Loved the denture challenge. I laughed my ass off so hard even though it was pretty damn nasty. |
Re: The Amazing Race-- "Rooting Around In People's Mouths Could Be Unpleasant"-- 4/12
Ive hated the deaf dude since day 1 and said it since. Im sick of his "goooooooo" and wondered why his mom signs everything. I guess he didnt learn to read lips. Even I can read lips and I can hear fine. Thank god he and his mom didnt do the Karaoke  And how can the bros not spot trannies? I saw it right off the bat!
And for next week, did he really try to elbow the chick AND push her? Shit I woulda busted his ass if he had done that to me or my sis. Deaf or not. |
How the other teams didn't get the hint to get their bags as soon as Cara/Jaime turned their boat around for them is beyond me.

Anyone notice Phil's wandering eye when the redheads started jumping for joy at the end? D |

I saw the preview and thought the same thing. The kid is a jerk, deaf or not. So since you can't barter with your own goods, and you cannot break the laws of the country that you are in, if you need money and begging is outlawed, are you just screwed? There have been some scary looking teams so the chances that they would luck into a free ride like the sisters did last night would not be great. And what about if you are in a country with legalized prostitution? Could a player take one for the team, so to speak? That would be some must see TV. M&M with the trannies  |

I was wondering if a good looking female contestant is within the rules if she flashes her tits for cash or to get out of paying a large taxi fare. I could have sworn that I remember somebody bartering with personal possessions in a previous Race. |

Never liked Luke from the beginning but the mom is great. I think he depend on his mom too much and gotten spoiled.

Re: The Amazing Race-- "Rooting Around In People's Mouths Could Be Unpleasant"-- 4/12
I'd love to see footage of the casting calls for this a la 'American Idol'. Have they always had those? This is the first I've heard of it.

Re: The Amazing Race-- "Rooting Around In People's Mouths Could Be Unpleasant"-- 4/12
I guess CBS is being cost-conscious since they didn't green light a 16th season for Spring 2010. I know TAR is probably one of the more expensive reality shows to produce.
