Party Down (STARZ)
Did anyone watch this?
I checked it out because I saw an ad in TV Guide that said it was produced by Rob Thomas and Paul Rudd. The cast has a lot of familiar faces from Veronica Mars and a lot of people I knew from other shows. (including Lizzy Caplan and Jane Lynch). It was about a group of caterers/bartenders who work parties in LA. Most of them are struggling actors. It was pretty funny. The Starz Channel page has the full episode ep if anyone wants to check it out. http://www.starz.com/originals/PartyDown |
re: Party Down (STARZ)
It's also airing on Channel 101 for Directv customers several times tomorrow.

re: Party Down (STARZ)
I caught it the other day on 101 and thought it was alright. Not the best thing I've ever seen, but there is some promise, for sure. I always like Lizzy Caplan, too, so that is a nice bonus. Jane Lynch has always gotten on my nerves a bit, so hopefully she doesn't drag the show down too much for me.

Party Down - New Series
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1073507/
2 episodes in, i'm quite liking the show, characters are interesting and its a nice simple premise which requires good performances. It's not in your face comedy (like eastbound and down), but nice and subtle |
Re: Party Down - New Series
First episode was pretty decent. Love the cast. Cant go wrong with Dick Casablancas.
|
Re: Party Down - New Series
How did I miss this? Stars a bunch of Rob Thomas groupies. I need in!!!!
|
Re: Party Down - New Series
I've been watching -- enjoyed what I've seen thus far. It's a good vehicle for Adam Scott (underrated, imo). It's better than Starz' other original comedy (Head Case).
|
re: Party Down (STARZ)
Merged the two threads together.
|
re: Party Down (STARZ)
I started to watch this because of Veronica Mars withdraw. 2 episodes in and it's pretty good.
|
re: Party Down (STARZ)
Loved the first ep. have yet to watch ep 2. I think this is great stuff.
|
re: Party Down (STARZ)
I've watched the first 2 episodes and think it's alright, but the first 2 plotlines felt like rejected Curb Your Enthusiasm scripts. It has a good cast, so hopefully the writing gets better.

re: Party Down (STARZ)
First off this show can't hold a candle to Curb Your Enthusiasm or Larry David.
The second episode was wayyyyyy better than the first, but still needs more jokes or something. Its more amusing than funny so far. |
re: Party Down (STARZ)
The one that premiered last night (Senior singles seminar) was by far the best and funniest episode yet, imo.
|
re: Party Down (STARZ)
A pretty good show, but given the pedigree I expected more. Each episode has made me laugh though. Marino and Scott do a pretty good Carell and Krasinski (a comparison that has to be made).
|
re: Party Down (STARZ)
I'm amazed that Lizzy Caplan could still be that hot even wearing a White dress shirt and bow tie.
|
re: Party Down (STARZ)
I've enjoyed what I've caught thanks to Netflix; but with Marino and Scott headlining this, I was expecting more laughs per minute.
|
re: Party Down (STARZ)
Last episode with the reunion was awesome. I really wanted to see Ron get some from that lady !
This show has improved each ep and i believe it has been renewed |
re: Party Down (STARZ)
Kristen Bell is guest starring this week. Get your DVR's ready.. and your hand cream. Or just your DVR's..
|
re: Party Down (STARZ)
It's a shame that nobody is watching this (ratings are bad I hear). Hopefully the renewal is true -- it's my favorite new show (see my sig). :)

re: Party Down (STARZ)
I've watched the first 9 episodes on Netflix. This show is hilarious.
|
re: Party Down (STARZ)
Just kept getting better with each episode, though I am still partial to Head Case. Not official yet, but Jane Lynch is going to be on "Glee" so they may not have her next year.
Jennifer Coolidge was great in the last episode, she had two hilarious lines. "Dolphins can change a baby's diapers underwater" "I want you to come see this mug, it has a staillion on it's back legs and it says....Follow Your Dreams..To The Max..Amen" |
re: Party Down (STARZ)
Hopefully they can work something out and she can make at least a few appearances.
But you're right Jennifer Coolidge was a very good replacement. |
re: Party Down (STARZ)
I just watched all 9 episodes last night - this show is great. It's not a laugh a minute affair, but I really love it. The characters are great, the situations hilarious and the dialogue is sharp. Definitely telling my friends to check this one out.

re: Party Down (STARZ)
"Well this isn't fucking baseball weasle face, it's Catering!"
So hilarious. I really enjoyed this show. Glad it got a second season renewal |

re: Party Down (STARZ)
Caught this show on Netflix via the Watch Instantly and loved it.
Here's some news on who is replacing Jane Lynch http://www.ohiomm.com/blogs/heldenfi...ns-party-down/ The show was facing a serious gap with Jane Lynch moving over to "Glee." But Mullally knows how to improvise, so this could be a good addition. Announcement after the jump. The official word: Starz keeps the “Party” hopping and the laughs flowing with the addition of one of television and film’s most beloved comediennes, Megan Mullally, to the cast of the crowd-pleasing original comedy series, “Party Down,” Starz Media EVP Originals Productions and Development Bill Hamm announced today. Production on the second season begins in mid-September in Los Angeles. The half-hour comedy about a Los Angeles catering team – Hollywood wannabes stuck working for tips while hoping for their big break — is tentatively scheduled to return to the air on Starz in April of 2010. Mullally (“Will & Grace,” Fame) will play Lydia Dunfree, a middle-aged refugee from a lousy marriage who leaves small town life to move to Hollywood where her 13-year-old daughter Escapade hopes to make it as an actress. While the younger endures the audition process, her naïve and eternally optimistic mother Lydia feels honored just to be among the show business “pros” of the Party Down catering company. Her search for Mr. Right only complicates matters for Lydia, but ups the laughs on the show. She joins a talented ensemble of actors on the comedy, labeled “a must-see” by USA Today and called “straight-up funny” by Entertainment Weekly. As the first season ended, Ron Donald (Ken Marino), the aggressively dysfunctional former leader of the Party Down Catering company, was headed off to manage a Soup N’ Crackers franchise; leaving one-time actor Henry Pollard (Adam Scott) to fill the void as leader; Roman DeBeers (Martin Starr) a self-proclaimed Sci Fi visionary, was still trying to get his screenplay noticed – by anyone; while actor, musician and all round cute guy Kyle Bradway (Ryan Hansen) landed a role in an upcoming action film; and Henry’s flame Casey (Lizzy Caplan) left him at the catered altar to do a few months of stand-up on a cruise ship. Also returning for the second season are the show’s creators and executive producers: Rob Thomas (“Veronica Mars,” “Cupid”) along with John Enbom, Paul Rudd and Dan Etheridge. Starz Media, the production and distribution sibling of the Starz premium entertainment channels, is producer of the series. “I’m so excited to be joining ‘Party Down,’ one of my favorite TV shows,” Mullally said. “I’m a big fan of the series and really thrilled to have an opportunity to work with such a terrific cast and talented group of writers.” “Megan is quite simply one of the most talented actresses in the entertainment business today,” Hamm said. “Her impeccable comic timing and multi-faceted acting skills make her a great fit for the show, and we can’t wait to see how she interacts with the show’s terrific cast.” |

I also watched the season via Netflix watch now...don't have Starz.
And after watching True Blood, I'm also hoping for some Lizzy Caplan nudity this season. |
