Re: Lost -- "This Place is Death" -- 2/11/09

A couple of things I notice that I don't think anyone's touched upon yet:

- What was up with that red star on the back of Jin's shirt? When I saw that, the first thing I thought was "tracking device" (ala Star Trek VI and Captain Kirk). Oddly enough, there was another Star Trek reverence in the episode ("Do you speak any other languages?" "Just Klingon.")

- When Ben, Jack and Sun were on the dock, there was a shot of a boat (or some kind of boating equipment) with the word "Illusion" on the side. Since I don't believe anything we see on LOST is a mere coninicence, I'm guessing it's there as a clue.

So how far in the past do we reckon Sawyer, Juliet, Miles, Jin, and Faraday are?

I've got to imagine 2 of our "Losties," whether it's any of those on the island now or some of the O6, will end up as "Adam and Eve" in the caves.

So is this time jumping stuff how they're going to explain older Walt appearing to Locke?
I'm glad they were re-united so soon. Splitting them up for too long (Season 3 - Hello!) was a pain.

Well, it appeared the "flashing" was coming from the well Locke climbed (well, fell) down as it went from the bottom straight up. Since the wheel was jerking back and fourth (and not still/frozen when Ben mvoed it), I think the flashing has now stopped. But where are the Losties? Stuck before Dharma arrived? Back to there "normal" time period?

I always viewed Jack's dad sort of like Eve/Lawrence on Angel. The liason to the senior partners.

Re: Lost -- "This Place is Death" -- 2/11/09

it appears that Jin is skipping through time at the same rate that Sawyer, Locke, et al are skipping.

but, when Jin and Sawyer first met (in last night's episode), I got the impression that Jin had just skipped, while Sawyer hadn't. I was almost expecting them to separate on the next flash, as if they were on two different paths that just happened to intersect one time.

I think they're stuck before the Orchid station was built. That's why we saw Daniel down there when the place was being built.

But they must be way before Dharma because the well wasn't even there yet.

I'm thinking that they must have gone way in the past. That well seemed pretty old, and they've jumped to a point that predates the well.

This could lead up to an interesting theory that I read on another board. Remember where Sawyer injured his toe a few episodes back? If it gets infected and requires amputation, that would leave him with the prerequisite number of toes for a well known statue.

It's possible that Sawyer does some heroic act in the distant past that would cause a statue to be built in his honor.

Just a thought.

An illusion? Maybe it was The Seaward.

... I think that Faraday is Jacob. Faraday is the only character that has been introduced that is aware enough of the island, is smart enough to understand the properties of the island and time slipping, has been on the island in the past and future, and as "the old man" Charlotte spoke of, could be trapped on the island and in time becoming Jacob.

That's my theory as well, was looking to see if anyone had suggested it.

At the pace the plot is moving and things are being revealed now, it almost seems like the show could finish answering everything and wrap up this season.

I wonder what will be left for next season to focus on?

Maybe we'll find out all the answers this season, and next season will be "Ok, now what?" Wrapping up what happens to everyone and to the island.

Or maybe

Spoiler:
The final Lost twist will be that there is no sixth season!

Spoiler:
Ok, probably not.

That might support the theory that Faraday is an old man when Charlotte is a little girl (i.e., when Dharma came to the island).

I don't think this has been mentioned yet, but did anyone else pick up on the transmitted recording loop the Frenchies were picking up on their radio? It appeared to be the same or similar recording that the Losties were picking up the French version of when they first arrived.

I wonder what the significance of that was.

Someone on another board said the voice saying the transmission sounded like Hurley...

I'll have to go back and listen to it.

That's what I heard on the show last night...in English, though. Didn't listen closely for any type of accent.

For as much as Hurley wants absolutely nothing to do with those numbers, I'd find it hard to believe he'd be willing to have his voice saying them on repeated message.

Goddamn Comcast cut out completely at the last commercial break - I just saw the last 5 minutes...nicely done.

I was hoping Ms Hawking would've said somethign to Desmond, or vice versa. And I concur with Ben being one of the best villains ever.

Also - check out this guys blog. He ties Lost into the literary world very nicely. He doesn't have this week's show done yet, but last weeks was a good read.

Why does Sir Smokie maim and kill some people, and drag others to the temple?
