I am neither too young, nor in need of broadening my horizons, and yet... I find Bjork to be tiresome. She is not, to me personally, a talented musician.

Now, if they ever decide to have on Of Montreal, I believe we can talk. But as far as Bjork is concerned, I will pass.

On Weekend Update, Seth made a joke about Mayor Bloomberg being bitten by the groundhog at the Staten Island Zoo and how he fed it to the lion. To be clear, the SI Zoo has no lion. Just a couple of tigers and an ocelot. Not that it really matters.

There's a difference between not liking someone's music and saying that someone cannot be qualified as a musician as was previously stated.
I cannot for the life of me understand why so many people love "The Greatful Dead" when I can hardly get through a single song. Does that mean they are not musicians?

Now, Ashlee Simpson is one where this argument could be used. She is a manufactured "talent". Everything about her music was put together before she had anything to do with it personally. The only thing she does is lend a voice to someone else's lyrics and a finished track. Even then her voice is manipulated in the studio making even that not her own.

Isn't that what Frank Sinatra did? AFAIK, he didn't write and didn't play any instruments either.

My point being: the practice is nothing new.

FWIW, TV On The Radio was on Colbert Report last night, and they sounded exponentially better than they did on SNL (though the horns were a little off).

Great post.

Bjork writes all her stuff, performs it, and I'm pretty sure she can play her stuff at least on piano but I could be wrong.

If you are going to quote me you can't pick and choose something out of context to make a point. Read the entire post. Sinatra's voice wasn't digitally manipulated for each song and he was known for singing to live audiences. On the other hand, I have no idea what Ashlee Simpson's real singing voice sounds like because of all the manipulation and her biggest chance to show it on SNL (live being the key word) was...well you remember.

Comparing Sinatra to Ashlee Simpson is downright silly. Next up, you'll be comparing T-Pain's "voice" to Sammy Davis Jr's voice.

Re: SNL 02/07/09 - H: Bradley Cooper - MG: TV on the Radio

Here we go again......

from the AP

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. The legally blind governor of New York says a second parody of him on the television show "Saturday Night Live" promotes insensitivity against the disabled.

Democratic Gov. David Paterson said Thursday that the show's continued parodies hurt disabled people not in a position to fight back.

A segment on Paterson aired last week featured "SNL" cast member Fred Armisen - with one eye closed most of the time, the other focused on his own nose - unable to see fellow cast member Seth Meyers or a prop. Armisen portrayed the governor as a clueless blind man with a past of youthful drug use and womanizing.

NBC spokeswoman Sharon Pannozzo says neither the network nor the show would comment on Paterson's remarks.

Armisen as Peterson was on last week? I must have missed it when I was in the bathroom.

I think Bjorks biggest claim to fame was when she wore that crazy feathered dress during the Oscars in the 90's.

She performed on SNL I think in 2008 or 2007.

I've been saying that for weeks about Keenan. He could take some lessons from Wiig or Armisen who actually make an effort.

Cooper was fine. Only thing that really stood out for me was Wiig's Gifford and the blind governor. One thing that is consistent is how weak each episode of SNL is.
