Re: Smallville -- "Requiem" -- 2/5/09

Kristen Kreuk has a small sibilant 'S' problem. Her delivery is completely flat, as if she is reading and speaking at the same time. She isn't horrible, but certainly not good.

Re: Smallville -- "Requiem" -- 2/5/09

It isn't Kreuk that I have a problem with. It isn't really even her character, but the "will they, won't they" aspect of her relationship to Clark. After the first seven times it was annoying, now it's way past that.

Again, it isn't Kreuk (who is probably the only reason I'll see the new Street Fighter flick) more like the ridiculousness of the writing of her character.

Re: Smallville -- "Requiem" -- 2/5/09

I could take everything except the Lana with the powers deal because in the DCU Lana never had any powers. Lana, (along with Pete) has always been Clark's long term confidante.

Jimmy on the otherhand had many different powers over the years (Elastic Lad, Turtle Boy, etc), but never Lana.

Lana did have powers, but it was in the silver age period. She was the Insect Queen.

Very good on the obscure references. Of course she didn't have her own comic which made it harder to remember. I guess Superman's Gal Lana Lang just didn't sound right.

Just finished the episode and I thought it was okay. It wasn't as God awful as some of you were making it out to be.

I do agree that the Toyman part was fricking lame.

Seeing a freakish looking Lex was kind of cool.

I can see where some of you are coming from with the whole see saw thing with Clark and Lana. Even though Kreuk's delivery in the final scene was somewhat flat, I did think the scene was moving, especially when Clark attemped to kiss her one last time and it nearly killed him. I think Kreuk has been good in displaying emotion in her eyes in those types of scenes.

The Toyman thing reminded me of something from Lois and Clark.

I seem to remember something similar in an episode of Batman: The Animated Series involving a Toyman. It has been a while so maybe i am misremembering.

The lack of a father figure is killing Clark (bring back Bo Duke!).

The entire Lana thing of "i love you but i can't be with you" was old several seasons ago, it's just rehashed yet again.

Hopefully, things will pick up without her.

Did anyone else think of Darth Vader when we saw Lex?

The Toyman has always been a member of Supes' rogues gallery. The Toyman makes an appearence in an episode of the animated Justice League where he appears to kill Supes, so perhaps you mean that?

They pretty much nailed the look of the old comic book version of Toyman. All that was missing was a big tacky bowtie (and I think his hair color was different in the comics).

Right on all points!

And, yes, I so thought of Darth Vader with burns, breathing aparatus, and boomy voice!

Maybe he's thinking of the Grey Ghost episode with all the dumb toy cars totally ripped off from the Dead Pool.

She also had her powers back in Superman: Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? story Alan Moore wrote.
Spoiler:
She and Jimmy Olson were killed off at the end of that story.

Thinking about Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow and thinking about it, it's also possible that Lana has become some amalgamated version of Prometheus and Kryptonite Man.

I loved the show this week:
-Great old villian from the Superman I use to read in the 70's and later
http://us.st12.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.c...2039_376610008

-Good way to send Lana off, I hope she is gone for good though

-Coold to see Lex again, but Is Lex dead?

Re: Smallville -- "Requiem" -- 2/5/09

I hadn't seen the preview for this, but based on all the negative talk I was expecting the worst. Thanksfully it wasn't that bad.

I though Toy Man wasn't too bad. I'm glad he wasn't the central focus of the episode, but rather a plot device. I do wonder if they should have taken a slightly more deranged senile old man route, rather than a jaded crazy worker route.

Anyway, I really enjoyed the Oliver and Chloe interactions. I had forgotten about the Chloe (maybe Branianc) killing in the hospital until Oliver mentioned it. Touche! We'll have to see how long this goes until it comes out. I'd bet the end of the season. If Clark finds out he'll unleash on Oli for sure. Also, I found Oli's attitude cavalier with regard to his actions, but perhaps because it was personal and not his general attitude towards crime fighting. All that said I seriously doubt Lex is dead. (His mask reminded me of Luke in the tank at the end of ESB).

Ah, the eternal Clark and Lana issue. I will say the plot by Lex was inspired. He knew Lana was devious, so he developed something that would serve his purposes when used on himself, or if used by her sure to screw her and Clark over. Nice! However, I agree with whoever said it seems to cheapen any development between them. I think it would have been better served to have her leave on her own accord on the episode after the wedding.

I'll also concur that while the final scene had a certain amount of cringeworthyness to it, it was rather memorable. Combined, the necklace from season 1 and Lana's refernce to their talk in the graveyard were nice callbacks. Even if the resolution to the Clark / Lana relationship in Smallville isn't in line with other cannon, it was nice in a way that it brought them full circle. Regardless, you had to feel for Clark as he willed himself to kiss her one final time.

Interesting. I don't remember him at all. I though they were making her to be like Conduit (from The Death of Clark Kent).

So I guess you think she's partially based on the second Kryptonite man?

Re: Smallville -- "Requiem" -- 2/5/09

I originally thought it was just Prometheus, since it was a 'badass suit that gave ultimate fighting powers', but after this episode, I think there's a little KM2 in there, yeah. I don't know any other suit or entity (besides Smallville's Bizarro/Baby Ship) that has that ability.

I didn't think it was as bad as everyone said. But alas, I do hope that that is the last we will see of Lex & Lana.

Re: Smallville -- "Requiem" -- 2/5/09

I suppose if Lex were ever to come back he wouldn't have to forget about Clark's secret, but that very much goes against all iterations of cannon (as Smallville often has). I just find it very difficult that of all people Lex would be so careless to be riding around Metropolis in the back of a semi-truck. Like he wouldn't be holed up in some underground layer half way around the world.

Hancock spoiler

Spoiler:
The Lana/Clark ending was very Hancock to me. Actually, total ripoff.

ie: we're both superheroes, but we have to fight crime far away from each other or someone will die via close proximity.

I was ready for Lex's "NOOOOOOOooooooo...." when he was watching Clana with the hidden camera.

Also, I sure hope Chloe found some time to visit HER HUSBAND while she was in the hospital meeting with Ollie.
