LOST - The 10 Best Backstories

(I think the "dishonorable mentions" for Kate and Jack are the best parts)

I think Hurley's is one of the best back stories but I still would like to know more about how his past intertwined with Libby's.

Re: LOST - The 10 Best Backstories

Good list, but I think it will change in order when all is said and done next year. I hope Jack's story picks up a little and makes some more sense. I've never disliked him as most I think. However, I think all hope is lost for Kate's story.

I like most of Jack's flashbacks and I think they should at least be in the top 10. Kate's aren't THAT bad either. Decent list overall though

Re: LOST - The 10 Best Backstories

I'd rank them:

1.) Locke
2.) Desmond
3.) Ben
4.) Mr. Eko
5.) Hugo
6.) Sawyer
7.) Juliet
8.) Jin
9.) Sayid
10.) Charlie

I thought the Nikki & Paolo episode was terrible, but now some are thinking it was setting up something for a future storyline. I always thought Charlie's backstory was lame too.

Personally, I think Sayid's story is the best from a narrative standpoint, but Locke's is more important to the overall story of the show.

I'd personally rank Desmond's above Locke's but I think Faraday and Charlotte might make some noise when all is said and done.

Yeah, I think Juliet should have been on there somewhere. Maybe at 10 instead of Nikki/Paolo.

honorable mention to Boone/Shannon

That whole "robbing a bank just to get her dead friend's toy airplane back" storyline was completely terrible - and doing such a thing made Kate look like a crazed psychopath more than anything else. That flashback was one of the low points of the entire series (IMO). And the whole thing about her real dad and her mother isn't much better. About the only really good part of her entire backstory was the relentless Federal Marshal who chased her down - he was great!

Most of the characters don't have terribly compelling backstories, and most of them could have been well-serviced with only a single flashback episode.

It appears that they went out of their way to give the "main" characters (Jack, Kate, Locke, Sawyer) more flashback episodes, and we got stuck with a lot of duds like Kate and the toy plane, Jack's tattoos, and Locke on the pot farm.

Kate's "toy airplane" episode was one of the earliest episodes of the show (Season 1, Episode 12). Her backstory started out bad and never really got any better.

They could've done so much with his appearance on the show, but I think LOST wasted him completely.

Re: LOST - The 10 Best Backstories

Locke definately has the best back storey. I do think they messed up with Kate and her background strorey...like it has been said above, the aeroplane episode wasn't the best
