Hell's Kitchen -- Season 5 Discussion Thread -- Premieres 1/29/09

Hell's Kitchen

Bios for all 16 contestants:

http://www.fox.com/hellskitchen/bios/gordon.htm

The Grand Prize this season is:
Head Chef position at the Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa in Atlantic City.

It's also 15 episodes this season.

Glad to have Gordon back, but I wish this would have stayed a summer show.

I went to high school with Will (front/center guy) which is the only reason I would ever watch a show like this

So will the prize change mid-season like it did last year?

Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 5 Discussion Thread -- Premieres 1/29/09

I had no clue this show was coming on during the typical television season this year. I guess I need to pay better attention.

I really loved this as a summer show.

I kind of hate watching Top Chef and Hell's Kitchen at the same time so I may just Tivo this and wait until the end of Top Chef.

Loved last season. I don't know if it can be topped. Let's hope it comes close.

Okay these bios are all just weird. How does a 23 year old (Danny) claim EIGHT years of kitchen experience? Or Coi who is 22 and claims 8 years as well? Does making dinner for yourself in your kitchen at home count as "kitchen experience"?

I imagine working in restaurants is one of the more popular jobs for 14-15 year olds. There were people in my schools that basically worked in a restaurant for school credit.

But do 14-15 year olds get to cook? If you're not being a sous or a line cook, I wouldn't consider than real "kitchen experience". Of course all of those resumes could be padded to hell and FOX wouldn't care. This seems to be the first time they have posted full bios. I checked back to "stay-at-home dad" Dominic from last season and there is nothing really posted. At least everyone this season seems to have some genuine experience.

Really looking forward to this. The first episode where Gordon has to sample the cheftestants' signature dishes is always comedy gold!

Ahh, the Hell's Kitchen thread! I'm sure we'll have the regular 4 or 5 people that post in this every week.

The only reality show I watch - I just hope this doesn't hurt it, though. I love HK as a summer show.

I got to cook. It's just kitchen experience, so it doesn't mean much. They may both have 8 years of cooking aps at TGI Fridays, but it's still kitchen experience, which doesn't mean much on it's own.

Carol is going to win (top right in the pic).

Possibly Colleen, but I think she's too old and has too many kids for Ramsay to be interested in her.

I think he's going to be gone in week 9.

I hope they keep Colleen around a couple of weeks, his insults about her teaching are gold.

How the hell do people go into this not knowing how to cook risotto??? It's the one constant thing on his menus.

Wow Colleen and Lacey are AWFUL.

Then again, Christina was pretty bad at the start of last year too, so maybe Colleen can be salvaged. No hope for Lacey.

If Lacey keeps this up she wil easily surpass Jenn from last year as my most hated tv personality.

I totally wasn't expecting this after my anger at no new Office. I'm happy now. Even though there wasn't as much puking and spitting of food at the beginning.

That chick against the wall at the bottom of the stairs is fine as fuck.

My wife asked me the same thing -- if you're even thinking about trying out for Hell's Kitchen, why wouldn't you spend your every waking moment practicing how to cook risotto?

She's almost there for me. I found myself yelling at the TV numerous times at the evening. She think she's hot? REALLY? Wow. Cocky AND stupid.

The mom from Nebraska (forgot her name) was pretty damn bad, too.. if the girls were on the chopping block tonight, one of them would have gone.

Wil was bad for sure. Not surprised to see him go.

Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 5 Discussion Thread -- Premieres 1/29/09

Great 1st episode.

Gordon was in top form as usual.

Can't believe that whinny douche bag Danny is actually an Executive Chef.

Loved Gordon and Collen's confrontations. "You actually charge $300 to teach people to make that crap!"

Best part was when put too much sugar in the Risotto and Gordon said it was the worst tasting Risotto in his entire cooking career.

Why is opening night always such a cluster fuck & disaster?

The men seem like mostly a bunch of douche bags. I think Ben seems like the best of these knuckleheads.

I like Andrea, Carol & Ji among the woman, but that opinion will probably change in the 14 weeks.
