During the hiatus I watched the entire run of the British show. It's one of the best shows ever on TV, in my opinion.
I was and I still am a fan of the American version and I do consider it one of my favorite programs. But anyone who has a chance to see the British original should do so. It's available from the UK on both R2 PAL DVD and blu-ray. I bought and watched the blu-ray which can be played on US Region A players. Contrary to some reports, my player also was able to play all the extras. Two seasons, eight episodes per season.

When the US version comes to an end, I seriously doubt it'll go out like the UK one did:
Spoiler:
Still like the US one a lot, though.
Last night I started "Ashes to Ashes" (watched the first two episodes). Man, I'm digging the music they use!

ABC has been promoting this like crazy lately and it will be on after Lost, which can only help. Totally dig this show and glad it is back. Have yet to watch the British series, I think I will wait until this one is done.
Fingers crossed it does well after Lost.

I am going to use an adage rarely seen outside of the Lost thread, but seeing as how this fast become one of my favorite shows of the season, I think it fits. And so, without further gilding the lily and with no more ado...
Can't wait!

I'm really sick of people saying this....I've seen the U.K. one & Keitel completely kills Philip Glenister in every possible way.I do not understand all the hype over that guy at all,he's good but no Keitel.Anyways,I'm very happy about this show coming back tonight!!!!

John Simm, the British Sam, is a skinny little guy with an elvish face who looks more like a clerk in a florist shop than a cop. At first I thought that might be a problem. But he sells it with, I don't know, what do you call it - oh yeah, acting. He is totally convincing. Keitel does the same thing as Gene Hunt, overcoming any size or age problem.
Glenister and Keitel = both great.

Wasn't Colm Meaney (O'Brien from Star Trek TNG and DS9) originally cast as Gene Hunt?
I'd like to have seen that would have worked out. I don't mind Keitel in the part, though I haven't seen the UK version so I didn't go into it with any preconceived notions of what the character should be like.

That was a bore. The only thing interesting was the twist at the end. When the show last aired, Sam was answering the phone in the cabin. What happened with that? Hopefully they address this next week.

An okay episode, but the twist was funny. Didn't really have much in the way of clues as to what happened to Sam, getting back to '08, etc. Seemed more like an average police procedural.
Guess I've been spoiled by watching the UK run during the break. Of course, that had a much shorter run, so the risk of playing that aspect out wasn't nearly as great as it is with this version.
Nice to see Johnny Sack. Boy, he got bigger. Guess his cancer from the Sopranos is in remission.
Thanks! I wasn't dreaming it. After the episode ended, I turned to my roommate and asked him if the previous episode was the one that ended in the cabin with mysterious phone call. The hiatus was so long, both of us were fuzzy.
Weird that it wasn't brought up at all last night. I wonder if this episode aired out of sequence.

This episode was clearly aired out of order. Next week's episode is the continuation of the winter finale one. Based on the previews anyways.
*My suspicions were correct. According to TV.com, this episode has a production code of 11...yup it was out of order.

I enjoy this show but actually just wish it would lose this 'time travel mystery' shit... I like the idea of a modern cop being sent back to 1973 and working with the cops there - but I'd rather just have him accept that this is his new life and forget all this nano-robot, mystery call, coma stuff... they don't pull that stuff off well IMO. The 70's cop stuff though, they do that pretty good.

No Sam or Annie but Sam's old female psychologist/DI going back to 1981 to unite with Gene Hunt and most of the old squad in London (instead of Manchester) still sounds intriguing.
First season is out on DVD in the UK (I have a region free player) but I'd like it on blu-ray. Since they released LoM on BD, you'd think they would do the same with AtA but no listing yet on Amazon UK.
Edit: This says AtA is coming out on BD May 9. I'll wait. I hope it's correct and that it eill be region free.
