This episode is going to be cut down for sure. I recall it ran over 50 minutes. The NBC versions have to be between 41-44 minutes to fit all the commercial breaks.

Same - this time in glorious HD!
Undoubtedly the full versions of every episode will show up on the S3 DVDs.

I think I'll wait to watch it until I hear opinions on how poorly the editing affected it.

I bet those of us who did watch on Dtv won't be able to tell you what scenes they cut.
Not to watch because of the edited scenes is silly. It's a great season and shouldn't be missed.

Wow, I really missed this show. Great episode. Still Riggins just bugs me, he was a Sophomore season 1 and Smash was a Junior and Street was a Senior?

Fortunately if anyone missed this episode or any future episodes, they will now be posted to NBC.com and Hulu.com after they air.

Even though they moved things around this season I'm glad they at least mentioned what grade everyone was in. Pretty much writing it out last season was just lazy.
Good episode and a very promising start to the season. Some good, realistic, football drama with Smash and Saracen. Some good, realistic, school drama with Principal Taylor and Tyra. Some good teen drama with Riggins and Lyla. We'll see where they take Julie, at least she isn't a huge bitch like she was in the beginning of last season.

Re: Friday Night Lights -- "I Knew You When" 1/16/2009 Broadcast edit
Two scenes I noticed that were missing:
The one where a teacher tells Tami that she's leaving Dillon High and going to
greener pastures. (Tami goes home and tells Eric)
The other is when at the 'team party' Tami whispers to Eric that she just told Buddy that she's using the money for books instead of buying the Jumbotron. Eric is left standing there with a deer in the headlights look.
That's the only two I noticed.
Anyone else?

Good start, and from what everyone else said this season will only get better. Nice to see they fixed the two weakest parts from last season by not bringing back Santiago, and writing out Lyla's hippie mother. How many more episodes before Smash leaves?

Some explanation of where Santiago went would have been nice. Gees, just say he was arrested, went back home, or killed.

If anyone is curious, FNL got 4.6M viewers and a 1.6 in the 18-49 demographic on Friday.
Not surprised at all, I said before the NBC airing would probably get 4-5M viewers a week.

If that continues, I can see it being renewed. Its only competition on Friday nights will be Terminator on Fox.

What happened to that young minister that Lyla was seeing in S2?
Did I miss something?

Something to keep in mind: this season is only 13 episodes. They didn't have the time to explain each story line. There are things that happen that you'll wish they had more time to explore.. given that they only have 13 episodes and the fear of not being picked up for the next season they do the best they can.
