Buffy (while not for some) is vastly better in most every area you can think of. In fact Smallville did get some good creative boost of both writing and talent when the Buffy world ended.

Yeah that gets old. One thing it does well is incorporate good music into the show. It might not be the most masculin stuff but represents the show very well.

Knowing what I know now, I don't think I would have ever watched Smallville or even suggest it for someone else.

Though the brilliant moments were incredible...there were too many vampire sorority moments for me.

I have quit on the show at least 10 times only to be saved by episode summaries.

So unfair since the vampire sorority was the worst of every episode to date - even the gum and the fast and furious episodes.

But all those...including the fire football coach...and others....fit into my vampire sorority category.

Too bad...Welling and Rosenbaum both own their movies counterparts and they deserved better.

Re: I just started Smallville...

I almost forgot that I started this thread. I'm actually eight episodes into season four now. Season two has been my favorite so far. Season four seems to be reverting back to the freak of the week formula of season one. I really like the show but I think it could have benefitted from taking out some of the filler. It could be trimmed down to thirteen episodes a season and it would be much better. In the S4 episode Transference Lionel takes over Clark's body. Two episodes later the witches take over Chloe, Lana, and Lois's bodies. Why would they put two body snatcher episodes that close together?

Oh and does everyone else hate Lana as much as I do? It's like she's got kryptonite enhanced pms every other episode. If I was Clark I would have to be done with her. I couldn't take it. I called Lana a bitch one episode and my wife asked me why I didn't like her. I said she's fine now but wait until the next episode. Sure enough she was flipping out about something. So I had to yell to my wife see come look at her being a bitch.

He didn't heed advice about season 4, and yes, everyone hates Lana.

Smallville would benefit big time from 13 eps/season. Its filler is some of the worst filler one could find.

Your sentiments toward Lana are the norm, as Michael mentioned. You should notice a big quality drop this season. IMO, the show doesn't rebound until this (its 8th) season. That being said-- even with the rebound -- if one desired to criticize the writing, it wouldn't be a very hard task.
