I'd buy the entire Parker Lewis series in a second.

It does let you see Jennifer Aniston pre-plastic surgery, with a schnoz that's not quite Jennifer Grey pre-plastic surgery worthy.

I just recently made a trade for these on DVD. Yeah, they are pretty damn bad. And the annoying loud 80s synth background music doesn't help.....

The show managed to piss everyone off in the opening minutes when "Ferris" destroys a standee of Matthew Broderick saying how the movie was a bunch of crap. I never understood why they did that... we wanted to watch the show BECAUSE we liked the movie.

I see Jennifer Aniston was in it though, so it'd be interesting to see again.
First thing that came to mind when I saw the thread

Is Australian TV really that lousy?

There are thousands of better American shows (current and past) you could try watching instead if you are really that bored.
Yeah, like Super Computer...

To be fair, Ferris Bueller was a spinoff of Super Computer.

They aired the whole series on TV Land in the late 90s and I thought it sucked.

Guess they thought they were being daring by attacking the original movie after Hughes tried to shut it down. Making him a mean-spirited jerk was bad enough, but slicing that cut out was the nail in the coffin for this piece of garbage TV show. That youtube clip brought back a lot of bad memories.

He's going after the movie in the TV clip, but the way he talks sounds like he's trying to mimic the way Matthew Broderick talked in the movie.

It's funny, I don't find the movie overly dated...but that clip from the show is horribly dated.

I actually liked this show the same way people like to drive by grisly car accidents and gawk. It doesn't seem like a difficult concept to pull off until you see how far off the mark the TV show is.

I do see via IMDB that there was a character named Arthur Petrelli in the show, though. I wonder if that means we can credibly say:

Supercomputer spun off Ferris Bueller which spun off Heroes

I love the fact that TV Ferris has Sisters of Mercy and Cabaret Voltaire posters in his bedroom. Because whenever I think of Ferris Bueller, I think of gothic industrial music.

I noticed in that clip on Youtube that Mama Patrelli (from Heroes) played Ferris' mom also.

I remember watching it originally and remember a scene where Ferris started making out with his sister. It ended up being his girlfriend in disguise or something, but I thought it was pretty wild at the time.

The movie seemed to be more of a comedy while the show was more of a drama.
All of Joss Whedon's creations have a strong comic element (except maybe Alien Resurrection, where the humor seems unintended). But in the case of the movie, the producers took his original concept and turned it into a Valley Girl comedy. The TV show was Joss's chance to redo the story right. It's not a complete reboot since events of the movie are acknowledged in the pilot and flashbacked to in season 2, but Joss has said that he imagines the back story as being his original script for the film, not the abomination released to theaters.
