Survivorman -New Season 11-7-08

This is just a heads up for anyone who missed the fact the new season started on Discovery last Friday. I'm sure it will play a dozen more times this week before the new episode on the 14th.

I just watched it today (in HD for the first time) and it was a great episode. There was nothing dramatic or exotic like panther attacks in the Amazon; he was simply portraying how a casual hiker in the Sierra Nevada Mountains can get lost and how to survive.

I've loved Survivorman since it started (far more so than Man vs. Wild) so the absolute coolest part of this episode was that it was filmed in the exact spot I went hiking earlier this year. I had no idea until I began recognizing locations and names. This thread really is just an excuse to brag so here are some of the pics I took there...

These two were taken from the exact spot he spends the night on the 6th night...

This is us getting stopped from going any higher than the first pics...

The trail up switchbacks quite a bit and as we were on our way back it started getting dark so we decided to "bushwack it" straight down. I was afraid for a bit that even with GPS we were going to get lost. It's funny because I was thinking at the time that this was exactly what Survivorman would say NOT to do.

Maybe my perceptions are being colored by the above link about it being his last season, but it just seemed like his heart wasn't in this weeks episode.

I was surprised to hear that in the ad...not the season finale, but the series finale.

he's stated it takes too much time and it's too much of a toll on his body to continue doing them. the show will be missed. i enjoy watching it.
