Desperate Housewives -- "Mirror, Mirror" -- 10/26/08

Photobucket

Synopsis:

Spoiler:

Dave persuades Susan to throw a 70th-birthday party for Mrs. McCluskey, but his motives aren't entirely altruistic and Mrs. McCluskey isn't overjoyed; Jackson wants to ramp things up with Susan; Gaby fears she might be pregnant again; and Tom tells Lynette that he has sold the pizzeria. Meanwhile, events of the past five years come more clearly into focus. Among them: how the bond between Bree and Katherine developed.

Great episode! I'm really liking the direction this show is going in. The 5 year jump has really kept the show interesting, and it's much better than I expected. I LOVED seeing the flashbacks, especially why Bree and Katherine ended up going into business together.

I really dislike Dave. It drives me crazy that he's so annoyingly nice, and has everyone fooled, with the exception of Mrs. McCluskey, who he's now trying to get rid of. I hope she comes back and uncovers his secret, without her life being sacrificed.

Gabby was great, loved her slapping the doc and then her running done the stairs to announce she's not pregnant.

Stupid Susan flashback.

The smirk on Dave's face; Gaby ecstatic about having her period.

This hour draggged 3/4 of the way...until Mrs. McClusky's "demented, bat-wielding CrAZy old-cat-lady" moment. I don't want to see McClusky in the loony bin/nursing home, nor written out of the show at all. Who the heck is Dave targeting?

For as insistant as he was to get Mike into the band, that's who I'm guessing.

As for Carlos' bionic sperm, I have that same problem I guess. My wife told me this weekend that she's pregnant (total shock to both of us), and I only got to work at it twice. She had just gotten her body back from our last kid too. but also

Hmmm. Well, congratulations!

I suggest some "double bagging" to prevent future shock!

I guess that is why they call you Snowmaker.

Congrats!

I felt the same way, although the Gabby/Carlos stuff was funny as usual.

In addition to that, did anyone else notice that Mike was the only recurring adult character NOT at the surprise party? He now lives across the street from Susan. I rationed that he might have been on a job/didn't fit into the flashbacks much, but I'm thinking more that he is Dave's target. I enjoyed the episode and the way the flashbacks were handled through the mirror along with the characters crossing paths to the party.

Carlos is going to need to get his sight back soon - that storyline is almost played out. Still not sure how a family of 4 with no income can afford to stay there.

And I know everyone here seems to take Tom Scavo's side against Lynnette, but I still think he's a douche. Last night "pout session" topic furthers my argument that it is all always about Tom.

Plus Dave bought the house just so Mike could rent it. No one is that nice to someone they just met so obviously he wanted him close by for a reason.

My belief since day one is that Dave is the father of the wife and little girl that were killed by Susan and Mike in the season opener.

So that would mean he is going to try and kill Susan and her son>

I agree with you. I did think that Lynette was totally being a bitch about the band thing, but she was completely right this week. She gave up her career and put her heart & soul in to supporting his dream of opening a pizza parlor-- and now he is bored and just wants to do something else? I would have been furious.

She should let him a little fun like having his car and joining his band, but totally wanting them to uproot their lives and their business to go live in a Winnebago is just crazy.

And do the Scavos have the worst luck ever? Lynnette shot, has cancer, Tom electrocuted, and didn't he have other problems before?

I reckon it's Carlos

I'm still wondering what Tom and Lynette ever saw in each other to begin with. They seem like total opposites.

My wife and I are complete opposites, but that's why I love her. We also identify with T&L the most.

Trust me, if there was a DVD Lady Josh, things would not end well for either.

They really needed this episode to bridge the 5 year gap.

I think Dave has it in for Mike too. Does anyone remember who drove that night of the car accident? Wasn't Susan the driver?

They made it a little too easy for Mrs. McCluskey to go insane and be taken away in a stretcher. That kind of thing (gaslight plot device) deserves several episodes.

Dave was just as manipulative in getting Tom to play in the band also.

Last night's episode cemented that it was all Susan's fault that Mike isn't her husband anymore.

Liked Katherine's line about Orson not lasting 2 months working for Brie. I bet it will come true.

I was thinking from the start that Dave was going after Mike for the accident, but that would be too easy. I am starting to wonder if he had something to do with Tom's psycho ex that died in the big storm, although it wouldn't make sense why he helped Mike get the house, especially since they could have gotten the other base player.

It was Mike. They were going to an anniversary dinner and were in his truck. Part of the problem thereafter was that Susan felt so guilty and responsible when she was only the passenger in the car while Mike the driver had come to terms with the accidental nature of the fatal crash (i.e. the missing stop sign at the intersection).

I reworded that to make more sense. It took me three reads to figure out what you meant.
