Tara REALLY bugged me in the first episode because she seemed like a walking negative stereotype, but I really like how it turns out she is pretty much the smartest person in the whole town. A lot of her persona seems like an act now. She really could be making a lot of her life elsewhere, but she is stuck in this crappy town (out of loyalty) so she instead sort of goes along with her role as "sassy black Southern girl". I think she is the most interesting character on the show now.

Being the smartest person in a little hick town will turn you into an unbearable asshole.

Trust me on this.

I hadn't seen this show before but caught the last 3/4 of tonights episode (mostly because I had seen the screen caps of Anna's boobs and wanted to see if this was the episode!)... anyway, I haven't had HBO for awhile, and apparently I have it free for a bit since I added in my cable companies HD package again, as well as their Internet service, so I have my DVR set to record the episodes I missed. I do like what I have seen so far though.

i know this is a character based vampire show and not an action based vampire show, but still needs to be a bit more action

It needs to get the balance right like Sopranos did

Like Sopranos? I don't remember a time in that show's existence that people didn't complain there weren't enough wackings, until they complained that there were too many.

At first, I was put off by how terrible and off-the-mark ALL the accents are. But now I love it...just adds to the outrageous campyness.

I find it a bit odd that it takes place in Louisiana, and there are only three black people in the whole town.

Just watched this episode for a second time. Probably my favorite of the series so far.

Kind of surprised at the mixed reactions. I thought it was pretty powerful.
I agree with Tara becoming a favorite character and I loved the way that Lafayette delivered his "Bitch" line.

I liked this episode a lot, but it wasn't as good as last weeks. I can't stand Tara's voice but she's actually turned into quite an interesting character. I also agree with Groucho that there should be a lot more black people in the town.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it before but I LOVE the theme song to this show. I think it's the only TV show where I don't fast forward through the credits.

I agree with you. I downloaded that song. It's by a guy named Jace Everett. I've never heard of him, but apparently he's a country singer. I love the song, though.

So far I don't think the show is great, but it's not bad either. It's actually kept my interest - which shocked me since I'm not a fan of vampire-related stuff.

I agree about the theme song... catchy and it feels very appropriate for the show.

I also agree about how Tara's character was a horrible and annoying stereotype in the first episode, yet the episodes that followed I found myself interested in her character. Also, her looks didn't do anything for me at first - but as the show is progressing I'm finding that she has a pretty attractive face.

I just realized that Cold Ground was episode 6, after checking out HBOs website. Anyone know if they'll be re-airing the early episodes at some point? For some reason, I thought it was episode 3...

It's kind of like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which took place in California. It had a Jewish person and a bunch of Englishmen in the regular cast, but not blacks, Asians, or Mexicans.

Maybe we can assume that all races except Caucasians have some kind of gene that instinctively tells them leave when vampires come to town.

Reminds of that Eddie Murphy routine:
