Fringe -- "The Arrival" -- 9/30/2008

Synopsis
Spoiler:
After a deadly explosion rocks a construction site in New York City, Broyles solicits the aid of our unlikely threesome to investigate a strange cylinder mysteriously found at the scene completely unharmed by the surrounding devastation. After Olivia uncovers an unbelievable commonality between disturbing events, Dr. Bishop takes matters into his own hands and Peter is forced into field duty, it almost seems as if the untraceable object is triggering the series of odd behaviors, unexpected events and surprising revelations.

Cool. Should be an interesting episode!

Boy am I glad I stuck around for 1 more episode....

Hopefully this is the start of some mythology/story arc

lordwow 09-30-08 09:21 PM

Now that's what I'm talking about.

Agreed. I went in thinking this would be my last episode, but this was a big improvement.

firteen88 09-30-08 11:19 PM

Looks like we're starting to get some mystery now. Unanswered questions, mysterious characters...good stuff. This show has gotten better each week.

Jimmy James 09-30-08 11:22 PM

Yes, indeed. This was a substantial improvement over episode three, which I felt was also better than the first two. This may get a solid 2-3 more from me before any ditching now.

johnnysd 10-01-08 12:12 AM

By far the best episode and certianly one that starts it seems the true mythology of the series.

aintnosin 10-01-08 12:20 AM

Definitely the strongest episode of the season. Peter goes from being Scully to Mulder in one episode and it didn't feel contrived and forced. Good work.

I almost didn't watch, but the wife likes the show so I watched it with her. It may finally be hooking me in after last night. I just cannot stand the main chick though.

Anyways, I liked how they finally introduced a nice arc style episode. Very cool about the observer.

Anyone else notice that the jalapenos he ordered were just green peppers?

Really? I thought they were sliced jalapenos..?

I've never seen jalapenos sliced that way, but they just looked too green and the insides looked wrong. I'd be willing to bet they just used green peppers for that.

Also, the pepper was too black.

Raul3 10-01-08 08:56 AM

Yeah, they looked like green peppers.

Another good episode and nice to see that that the bald guy appeared before.

Deftones 10-01-08 09:06 AM

definitely green peppers. great episode. hopefully this will be a continuing arc.

And if the show takes off, we'll be debating the significance of the green peppers for years.

firteen88 10-01-08 11:04 AM

This episode def had more of a lost feel. I'll be paying attention to the background more often knowing that hidden things will be thrown in!!!

I usually dislike chicks on TV shows, but I have to disagree with you here. I think she does a very good job.

Mordred 10-01-08 11:22 AM

This is kind of embarrassing but I was watching this last night live, and sadly fell asleep with about 15-20 minutes left to go. I remember the egg being hidden, they bad guy looking for it and the Observer meeting the scientist in the diner. Anyone willing to recap what happened after that?

the bad guy in the ski hat grabs the son, hooks him up to the same machine used earler in the ep. Pacey is, errr I mean Peter Bishop is all "I don't know where my dad hide it" but the guy some how learns it anyways, even when Peter really has no idea where it is at.

Peter + ski hat bad guy go to where the egg is.. Blond chick shows up. Pew pew pew gun battle. Ski hat gets shot, pacey, errrr I mean Peter runs into the Observer who "knows what he is thinking", then Observer knocks Peter out.

Eggs disappears into the ground, Observer calls someone and says it's on schedule. Peter wakes up, talks to his father, father says memory can be learned by osmosis.. Then some story about how they died in a car crash but the Observer has saved them saying "I'll need you some day"..

Peter then decides to stay with the team rather then leave..

best ep so far.. Lots of random "wtf?" not a lot of answers. Still not sure the show is going to make it but I'll keep watching.

Mordred 10-01-08 02:53 PM

Thanks for the recap. I remember Pacey being hooked up to the machine but I was dozing in and out by that point.

Wait, who died in a car crash but was saved?

When Pacey and his dad were younger, they were in a car crash and were saved by Mr. Clean

they were going to die, but the bald headed dude named the observer saved them.

and basically told old crazy scientist guy 'you owe me one'

and thats why old crazy scientist dude hid the giant silver bullet for bald dude.

Great news for those of us still watching.

Fringe got the back 9 order today. We get 22 episodes!!

http://www.variety.com/article/VR111...goryid=14&cs=1

"Fringe" has gone mainstream, scoring a full-season order from Fox on Wednesday.
Fox's back nine pick up comes as "Fringe" has so far ranked No. 1 among all new shows in the adults 18-49 demo (with several more entries yet to bow).

"Fringe" bowed to lukewarm ratings, but made a stunning bounce in week two. After four segs, the show has averaged a 4.2 rating and 11 share, and 10.7 million viewers overall.

The skein, created by J.J. Abrams, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, reps the second frosh series to get a full season thumb's up - following the CW's "90210."

"Fringe" revolves around an FBI agent (Anna Torv) who partners with an eccentric doctor (John Noble) and his son (Joshua Jackson) to track unusual, disturbing events happening around the globe.

Lance Reddick, Kirk Acevedo, Mark Valley, Blair Brown and Jasika Nicole also star.

"Fringe" comes from Warner Bros. TV. Abrams, Kurtzman, Orci, Jeff Pinkner and Bryan Burk exec produce.

Deftones 10-01-08 09:02 PM

sweet

superdeluxe 10-01-08 11:25 PM

Very good news.

riley_dude 10-02-08 12:17 AM

I think House saved this show. Once it premiered the ratings of Fringe went up.

CKMorpheus 10-02-08 12:35 AM

Much better episode. Crazy about seeing The Observer in the background in previous episodes. This definitely has the touch of JJ Abrams now more than before. Sucks that we have to wait two weeks for another episode.

Nth Power 10-02-08 03:03 AM

Good news on the pick up. The show has definitely been improving since the pilot.

XavierMike 10-02-08 08:30 AM

Definitely good news. The show has really grown me.

leacha 10-02-08 11:55 AM

Whatever happened to that gun the ski hat guy was shooting after Dunham kicked it aside? They never even looked at it. Just like Lost we'll start asking ????'s.

I was (and still am) very curious about that gun. I hope they bring it up soon.

Raul3 10-02-08 12:50 PM

Great that we'll have a full season. That should be the show creators to develop a good story.

onebyone 10-02-08 02:59 PM

Glad on the full season pick up. After a strange first episode, this one is really coming together nicely.

SteelWill 10-02-08 03:45 PM

This was a damn fine episode. It hit me how absolutely excellent John Noble is in his role with this one. This show might be turning into a keeper for me so I am shocked and relieved Fox isn't canceling it.

Sound wave gun? Microwave gun?

I know we are working on technology like that right now.

Superman07 10-02-08 09:05 PM

Quality episode. Freaky info with those screen-graps up thread!

If it wasn't for those dang credits I would have been really shocked at the end. I just figured it was the bald guy until they switched cameras!

Yet another week of this show improving. Very glad to not only see it was picked up, but nice to see progress as well.
