Pilots: ABC Wants to 'Flash Forward'

This seems like it would be an interesting concept. What would we all do if we were to see where our lives were 20 years into the future? It might make for a good companion to Lost.

David S. Goyer, Brannon Braga writing sci-fi pilot
September 19, 2008
ABC is zeroing in on a new time-shifting sci-fi saga that could serve as a companion piece to "Lost."
The network is on the verge of giving a pilot order to "Flash Forward," a drama about a science experiment gone haywire that causes the world's population to see a vision of what's to come in 20 years. David S. Goyer (" Batman Begins," "Blade") and Brannon Braga (" Star Trek: Enterprise") co-wrote the script, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The project is based on Robert J. Sawyer's novel, in which an experiment gone wrong causes everyone on the planet to black out for about two minutes, during which they see what their lives will be like in the future. Chaos ensues when everyone wakes up as cars crash, people fall and injure themselves and the like.
Goyer and Braga first took "Flash Forward" to HBO, which liked the concept but ultimately passed on it. ABC and FOX both bid on it, with the Alphabet winning out.
Goyer is also set to direct the pilot, and both he and Braga will executive produce (the two also worked together on CBS' "Threshold" a few seasons ago). Braga, however, will be less involved day to day since he's committed to FOX's "24" this season as a co-exec producer.
Vince Gerardis and Ralph Vicinanza, who own the rights to Sawyer's book, and Jessika Borsiczky Goyer will also serve as executive producers.

Never been a big fan of Sawyer's work but this book looks interesting (I haven't read it). According to Wiki:
Interesting that the book was written in 1999 but the real-world LHC will indeed be performing experiments in 2009 to find the Higgs.
And the LHC has been in the news lately. Several groups are protesting the start-up of the LHC because they fear the possibility that the experiment might create black holes and thus destroy the Earth. Coincidental that this project got the go-ahead after all this publicity? Methinks not.
The novel revolves around events in the year 2009. At CERN the Large Hadron Collider accelerator is performing a run to search for the Higgs boson.

What do they mean by blacking out for two minutes and then waking up? Is it going to be like in Looker, when someone was shot with the Looker gun, which made him vulnerable to getting punched, crashing a car if driving, etc.?

Re: Pilots: ABC Wants to 'Flash Forward'
The concept behind "Flash Forward" is that everyone on Earth blacks out for 2 minutes and 17 seconds. During the blackout, people experience visions of April 29, 2010, which is six months into the future at that point. When the "flash forward" is over, many people have died in accidents involving vehicles, aircraft or other devices that require human control.
