I haven't had cable in over two years.

I have a satellite dish for three reasons: Setanta Sports, GolTV, and Fox Soccer Channel.

The only thing my wife and I will watch on TV are DVDs. I haven't had cable myself in over 8 years.. I never saw the point in it. I didn't feel like spending money on something that I felt just wasted my time. Most everybody looks at us like we have two heads when we tell them we don't even have rabbit ears hooked up.

I cancel HBO, then Kenneth Branagh's 'Hamelt' has it's debut - shit! (and of course Entourage has to begin as well).

Thinking of cancelling RCN, and switching back to Comcast, but Comcast doesn't have HDNet/HDNet Movies - double damn.

I don't have cable because I never watch TV. I haven't watched TV in literally years. I own a 13-inch color set that I use to watch movies and that's it. I don't miss TV at all.

I don't have a computer at home either. I use the internet at work and, on weekends, I go to the library if I want to go online.

No cable, no satellite, no Direct, no Tivo. If it isn't free, I don't watch it. The last time I had cable, I realized that I was wasting hours every week watching stuff I didn't really enjoy, just because it was effortless.

It's tougher to give up wasting time on the internet, because I can usually find something I enjoy.

If I lived in a cardboard box, it would have a satellite dish just to receive Setanta, which is perhaps the greatest channel on the planet.

PS don't forget ESPN2/CL for a few choice European Nights thrown in for good measure...like tonight in fact!

How many of you guys tried the rabbit ears after cancelling cable? I moved to a new area (central FL) and can't get a decent signal. Might try another antenna. But so far, I don't really miss TV.

Proably VHS.

This must be what it feels like when an animal rights activists stumbles into a dog fighting thread. There is so much sadness. Some that are radical and some that are slowly leaning that way. It all makes me want to cry.

I have blockbuster for BR and everything possible you can get on Sat. I watch it on a high definition 122" screen, and I sit in awe! I might as well be an angel on a fluffy cloud with how wonderful this is.

I make time for tv. I don't wuss out on other things, but from 9pm to midnight, when everything else in the house is asleep, I bask in the glow of high definition, and I am glad of it. I am served up mugs of Smallville and the Sarah Conner Chronicles, Lost, Heroes, and House, and I chug until I am drunk with it.

I hope you people see the error of your ways and get back on the path to happiness.

Why? Because I don't like outdated equipment, poor service and high prices?

Roof antenna, $60 at Radio Shack. It works just as well for digital as it did for analogue.

I might just try that, I just want the local stations clear.

If you do, don't spend the extra money on a "Radio Shack mast". Just buy a piece of conduit from Home Depot.

Actually, most of my movie collection is VHS. I'm slowly moving into the 21st century, but don't rush me. ;)

And yes, I watch movies on a 13 inch TV. And yet, I live and breathe and bleed just like the rest of you. :lol:

I'm curious, Vibiana, how did you originally make your way to these forums?

It is amazing to me just how much people spend on cable and satellite on a monthly basis, though. I had to bargain with my cable company to get basic cable + basic HD only, which is enough for me, though I miss ESPN and TNT for sports. I especially hate it when they put USC football games on some obscure channel like Versus...

If I didn't live right next to a hill that seemingly blocks all antenna reception, I'd happily go with OTA.

I don't really watch anything spur-of-the-moment, though, or really anything live except for sports... everything else is Tivo'd or otherwise DVR'd. And it's very true that while a DVR will allow you to watch only what you want to, it also increases the amount of TV you watch on average...

We watch more TV now than we used to...if nothing else, the kids (1 yr old and a few months shy of 3) watch Sesame Street once a day or so.

Being in the house with kids so often, the DVR gets a ton of use. TV without DVR = pointless. I never caught any shows and almost never watched anything.

Nowadays the Tivo HD sees plenty of use. But we're paying only for expanded basic + $1.50 cablecard rental for HD locals..total of about $35/mo.

Although the wife just sprang for the HBO promotional package for for a few months...they bumped the DVD release date of her favorite show these days, In Treatment, out something like a YEAR. So she's Tivoing the episodes and will cancel HBO again after it's done re-running.

heck yeah, dropped cable about three years ago. I've hooked up a DVI cable from the computer to my hdtv and watch shows via hulu or the network sites. Pretty much the same thing. Any other shows you can most likely get off dvd.

It makes me a little sick to even think about living without it.
