Peyton Manning and Tom Brady's episodes were some of the funniest I've seen in a long time.

That Tom Brady sketch with him sexually harassing the workers because he's good-looking was effing hilarious.

Yeah, I dunno why everyone is so down on it. Sports figures and SNL have generally had a good history.

Most importantly, this is Poehler's last episode

I'm already predicting what they'll go with...

Phelps: "As most of you know, I won eight gold medals this summer."

Penelope: "I won nine gold medals. Yeah. Some platinum ones, too."

Phelps: "Right. Well anyway, I set several world records, including the world record in the 200 m Butterfly with a 1:52.03"

Penelope: "I swam it in 1:51. Yeah. Blindfolded. Hands tied behind my back. Yeah."

Just as long as the monologue isn't another musical number.

You'd better mark it on your calendar so you can remember to not watch!

I'll watch, what else have I got to do at 11:30 on a Saturday night?

IMHO, I don't see how the Peyton Manning show could be the best in 20 years. That time frame years covers the whole tenures of Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, David Spade, and Will Ferrell, and much of Dana Carvey and Phil Hartman's time as well. They also had some great hosts like Alec Baldwin, Christopher Walken, and Tom Hanks. Yet the Peyton Manning episode was really the standout of all that?

Besides, the only good things I remember about it were the United Way short and the Maraka cartoon.

Hell, Justin Timberlake > Peyton Manning as a host.

But as far as sports hosts go, Peyton is top-notch.

I'm not suprised how popular (or maybe just over-exposed) Phelps has become. What's so suprising to me, is he basically did the same thing in Athens, including the suprising combeack in the 100 fly, and it seemed like no one cared (except the 4 by 100 relay team did not stage a miraculous comeback). There's an inequity there.

Peyton Manning was pretty funny. Personally I would've liked to see Paul Pierce host if they got any athlete.

Bill Russell hosted? I wish I saw that one.

I don't think the season premiere would be Amy Poehlers last show.

I remember Charles Barkley did one funny sketch where he played Barney the dinosaur in a pickup game.

Don't worry; he will. He's not some pro team athlete that's in the public eye year after year. The next time he'll be talked about is four years away. It's not as if ESPN will start going all out with swimming coverage.

The 300 sketch with Peyton was funny.

I think the Scarlett Johannson show from that season was pretty good too.

I concur. Unless one holds athletes to another standard as far as hosting.

Okay, take away Peyton and Timberlake, who do you think was a memorable funny host in the last several years?

Alec Baldwin of course but Scarlett Johanson (sp) was good. Had to go check old threads.

No matter how bad the material, the actors can at least deliver lines without sounding all wooden. That rarely applies to the athletes who host.

The boy may be a great swimmer but he lacks any charisma or much of a personality.
Why???

^NBC saw their ratings skyrocket when they featured Phelps at the Olympics. Natural conclusion to put him on SNL whether or not he'll be any good. I bet there's going to be some joke about all the calories he consumes.

Oooooh, a skit "pool". I'm going to put my money on Aquaman, maybe in the vein of The Dark Knight. Topical!

When I saw her today, I instantly thought of Tina Fey. Clearly she wouldn't work long-term, but it just seems so obvious to me.
