Mad Men 8/24/08 - "The New Girl"

I applauded when Peggy delivered the "Thank you, Don." line pitch-perfect.

The show makes me laugh at all the stuff that has changed (DUI BAC limit, DUI fine, $2 for gallons of gas), and yet, some of it remains timeless (Pete's fears as stated to the doctor, fertility efforts, the reaction to the new girl).

Don must have a really strong self-preservation mode to keep out the bad stuff from the past that would get in the way of moving forward, and it was interesting to learn that he helped Peggy move on shined light on his paradoxical character.

The girl was recently on Smallville as Lucy Lane, Lois' sister a few seasons ago, and then last season, she was on Big Shots, playin Dylan McDermott's character's daughter.

She also showed up on a few episodes of "Day Break".

Big Shots - that's it.

I miss that show.

My absolute favorite moment was when Rumsen plays Mozart on his zipper.

BTW, I looked him up on IMDB, I didn't realize that he is yet another of Bill Murray's brothers.

In terms of the previews for next week:

Spoiler:
it certainly seemed like they were implying that Don screws over Peggy on Pete's account(I think it was Clearasil). If that does happen, I think it will be interesting, whether he really did forget what she did for him, or whether he just wants to teach her a lesson.

Pete's conversation with his wife was great. When he enthusiastically admits he's happy because he's not the problem with them not being able to conceive and then calls their argument a donnybrook had me

I loved the scene transition between Pete walking into that exam room to whack off, cut to the sound effect of Sterling whacking the paddle.

Yeah, I just came here to post about that too.

I guessed, at the beginning of the episode, that Don had helped Peggy with her problem. That explains a lot.

I still can't believe that Don is "falling" for the comedian's wife. That's too "low" for him.

"I don't feel anything".

Oh and I love Pete Cambell.

In Season One I really hated him. Then I loved to hate him. Now I just love him. I missed him last week and this week he was on full force

Yeah, except the scary thing is that I realized it was Mozart before he said anything!

Glad I'm not the only one.

It's funny - he looks nothing like Bill, but sounds exactly like Brian. Just catching up on this season, forgive the late bump.
