Laurence Fishburne close to joining CSI
I really like this choice!!
Hopefully everything goes through.

Film vet Laurence Fishburne is close to signing a deal to join CBS' CSI, sources tell TVGuide.com. Fishburne would fill the considerable void being left when series front man William Petersen steps down after this season's 10th episode.
Fishburne will play a doctor/scientist who comes into the CSI as an outsider, and not as the team's new boss, CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler revealed at the TCA press tour. As a DNA expert, this new character has identified a common profile among serial killers — and it's even in his own genes.
Petersen — who will continue on as an executive producer as well as put in the occasional "special" appearance — is the third original cast member to leave the show, following Jorja Fox and Gary Dourdan (each of whom will briefly resurface this season).

I didn't think it would be possible to fill Grissom's shoes, but damn that is some impressive casting if he joins the cast. Even his character's back story already sounds intriguing.

I don't know, Kurt Russell would also be nice!

Laurence Fishburne is prime "CSI" suspect

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Laurence Fishburne is in talks to replace William Petersen as the star of CBS' veteran crime drama "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation."
The search for a new lead has been shrouded in secrecy, but sources say Fishburne is being heavily courted to play the new character, described as a doctor/scientist outsider to the CSI unit who has the same genetic profile as a serial killer but hasn't previously acted on any homicidal impulses.
Fishburne, an Oscar nominee for "What's Love Got to Do With It," had been mentioned as one of the "CSI" producers' top choices for the role, along with John Malkovich and Kurt Russell.

Meh. Never been a Fishburne fan.
Now Kurt Russell on the other hand....that would've had Caruso unintended comedy-gold potential.
I actually stopped watching CSI a few seasons ago but I did check out last season's finale, so I'll probably check out the first half of this season for how they play that out and to see Grissom's departure.

As much as I like Fishburne as an actor, I'd always be expecting him to pull a red and blue pill out of his pocket
.
Kurt Russell would be an excellent choice though.

I'd be down for Kurt Russel as well. Malkovich is obviously a great actor, but I don't see him fitting into CSI at all, especially head honcho.

I don't think you could go wrong with either of those three choices and will be happy to see any one of them steps into CSI. They could all fill the big void left by Petersen departure.

The whole "genetically predisposed for crime" angle seems absolutely ridiculous, even for CSI standards. That said, I'd like to see Laurence Fishburne in this role. Seems cool.

Kurt Russell can fit anywhere and be exactly whatever the role asks of him, and yet still bring his own "Kurt Rullelness" to the role.
So yeah, even though I've never been a CSI fan, if Kurt gets the job, that shit gets an automatic season pass from me.

I think Fishburne is going to be very good on TV. He already has a very commanding presense on screen. Throw some glasses on him and he'll do just fine playing the doctor/scientist.

This might sound wrong, but I have a feeling it will go to Fish over Kurt based on race. With Warrick gone, the cast is lacking a strong black presence(hell, any African Amercan for that matter) and Fishburne would more than fill the void Gary Dourdan left.
In these PC times, if they throw Kurt in there, it's an all white cast and I just don't see that happening.
