I cannot wait.
I hope this is a stand-alone two hours in 24, and not merely the first two episodes of Season 7. However, if they end up being the first two hours, I really don't care, as I need my 24 fix and don't want to wait until January. The worst part of the strike, for me, was a year without 24. So whatever the case, I am glad we will get two hours before January.
Looks good though, I think it'll be nice to have a change of location in the series and see Jack "in the field" in another country. I am very impressed with the cast as well. Jon Voight and Robert Carlyle are excellent additions. And I could be wrong, but was that Paul Adelstein I saw as well?
EDIT: I love Lux Ęterna.

Looks like those keen on extra "24" next season will be sadly disappointed.
Premiere interviewed actor Robert Carlyle who stars in the two hour prequel to air this Fall and he revealed that it won't be a separate movie after all - rather it will count as the first two episodes of the new season.
"This two hours is two hours in real time and there'll then be 22 episodes. I don't know how they connect it to the first of those 22 episodes but it's literally the third hour" he says.
Carlyle says he plays Carl Benton, Jack Bauer's former best friend whom he hasn't seen for a decade. "Jack's on his travels and he comes to see Carl and hang out with him and potentially change his life. Maybe."
Shooting of his scenes took place in South Africa's Stellenbosch region which doubled for jungle in the fictional country of Sangala.

If these first two hours take place in Africa and represent the first two "real time" hours of season 7, then will Jack spend the next 15 hours on a plane flying back to Washington in keeping with the real-time format? I don't think so, so I'm going with the movie being a stand alone movie and a prequel to the events of season 7.
edit: especially since the season 7 trailer showed it to be not talking place in Africa.

I can't find the article, but i know the next day that comment about the 2 hour prequel being the first two hours of the season was retracted. It's an additional 2 hours prequel to go along with a full 24 episode season. Why would anyone think otherwise? If i can find the article i'll post it, but i'm 100% sure that the prequel doesn't count as the first 2 episodes.

The whole Carlyle statement was wrong. He has no clue what the fuck he's talking about. TV Guide asked FOX after he made that statement and confirmed that these 2 hours are standalone.
BTW, the Tony Almeida storyline has not been scrapped. FOX is not going to throw away all those millions.
Jon Cassar's web site says they are getting ready to film episodes 13 and 14.
I think FOX killed the link to the trailer now.

And it's something different than the traditional 24 storytelling which I think is cool. I'm actually glad that Howard Gordon (the writer of this movie) decided to try something different than stick with the same old formula that got really tired in season 6.

I'm not overly excited myself. With the things Kiefer Sutherland said in the interview on page 1 and the coup mentioned in the prequel trailer, it sounds like more of the same

How is Jack being in Africa, basically in Exile after having 6 shitty days in LA more of the same? Also, they have actually spent money to shoot on location in South Africa instead of shooting every season in LA. I give FOX props for doing something different. Same applies with filming some of Season 7 in DC. I didn't see any Middle Eastern Terrorists or Nuclear devices mentioned?

Season 6 was bad enough that I continue to have flashbacks.
I guess ER has ruined the whole "white man goes to Africa and gets caught in the middle of shit" thing for me..
Not that i'm NOT going to watch. Just more eager for the season to start as opposed to this "prequel".

I'm hoping the final cut is better with the FOX voice over guy and the final music and sound effects.

Just a bump up. Not a good sign at all.

Fox's "24" is officially shutting down for eighteen days to allow writers to work on upcoming scripts reports Reuters.
Production will shut down between September 15th and October 9th as the writers retool and rework the scripts for the final six episodes of the upcoming seventh season.
The reason for the delay is that executive producer/showrunner Howard Gordon had been concerned about the quality of several scripts for upcoming episodes. Production on the series has been underway since April.
The delay is the latest in a long line of issues that have plagued the hit series. After huge success with its Emmy-winning fifth season in 2006, the show's sixth season took a critical drubbing.
The seventh season started production later than expected due to scripting and story issues, and the series was then subject to a five month shut down due to the writer's strike.
This work stoppage won't affect the launch of the seventh season in January, or the two-hour prequel which has been completed and will air on November 24th.

Not a big deal IMO. They only have 6 episodes left to film and are already 18 weeks ahead along with having the TV movie in the can. Even when they resume filming, they should be done with the entire season before January hits.
If anything, Howard Gordon knows he has all this extra time available and doesn't want his writers to come up with crappy scripts.
