1st Reconnaissance Battalion (1st Recon Bn) is a reconnaissance battalion in the United States Marine Corps. It falls under the command of the 1st Marine Division and the I Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF). 1st Recon Battalion was recently reactivated, on July 5, 2000 as part of Marine Corps Commandant General James L. Jones’ mission to revitalize Marine Corps reconnaissance. Their scope of missions is broad and currently changing due to Force Reconnaissance units making a move to - Marine Corps Special Operations Command. 1st Reconnaissance Battalion currently consists of three Reconnaissance companies: Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie, with a supporting Headquarters Company. Delta company which used to fall under 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, now falls under the direct command of the I MEF commander.
However, Force Reconnaissance troops are employed far beyond the battlefield, the 'Area of Interest', while the Division's Recon Marines are tasked within the boundaries of the Commander's 'Area of Influence'. Both 'elite' Marine Reconnaissance units thus differ by the depth of penetration.
Many of the types of reconnaissance missions that are conducted by Marine Recon units are characterized by deep penetrations. This greatly increases the mission time, risk, and support coordination needs. Marine Recon Battalions are in charge of Close and Distant Reconnaissance as Deep Reconnaissance is normally done by Force Reconnaissance. All caught up and really love this show... Of course it helps that one of my good friends played the Army Commander that came in and changed the mission up on them at the last minute on lasts nights episode. Anyone know if this will be up to maybe move into a weekly series after the initial mini-series?

Fick pretty much gave an order to his superior....that is a big no-no. But word traveled and everyone had already felt the same way, this incident merely brought it to the surface.

Can someone who caught last night's episode help me with the exchange that took place between Brad and the two guys sitting on the humvee. Something was said regarding someone nicknamed Kasey Kasem. I couldn't figure out what they were talking about.
Also, it was a subordinate that came up and took the radio from Encino Man and talked him through moving the humvee that was stuck, right?
Last, Brad made it sound like they have been through a shit-load of elite training at $1 million a pop. Lends more to the idea they may be Force Recon?

I was thinking about the $1million education too - seems a bit excessive
but if you add in overhead - I'm sure a good accountant could allocate enough costs to say that a student's education up until the 12th grade costs $1million

Ranger School is an intense, nine-week-long, combat leadership course, oriented to small-unit tactics, and conducted in three separate three-week-long phases - at Fort Benning, Georgia, U.S.A., (the woodland terrain, 'Benning Phase'), at Camp Rogers and Camp Darby, Georgia, 'the Mountain Phase' at Camp Merrill, near Dahlonega, Georgia, and the Florida Phase at Camp Rudder, Eglin AFB, Florida. The Desert Phase, conducted first at Fort Bliss, Texas and later at Dugway Proving Grounds, Utah was eliminated in 1995. The last Ranger School class to go through the desert phase was class 7-95.

I think it's hilarious when Captain America compares the Iraqis to the VC. 
And I just found out why he looks so familiar. He was in "Malcolm in the Middle" and played Francis' friend at the military school.
