the Professor & MaryAnn & a Cigarette butt...here on Gilligan's Island!!

Yes, on Season Two, disc 1, episode 2 (the beauty paegant), when Gilligan is walking through the jungle, a pole is stuck out to trip him, and he falls in the sand. By his left hand was a cigarette butt - - as Mr. Howell would say, "that's preposterous!"

sorry, I'm computer-retarded in that regard. But buy the box set - you won't be disappointed (I'm not a salesman).

Mayhaps, someone from this wonderful forum knows how who has the boxset...

In the meantime, I'm going to be looking for more gaffes...

They could build a stage for Ginger out of underbrush from the jungle, build transistor radios out of coconuts, and so much more...you know Gilligan and Mary Ann were making their own smoky treats from special plants they found on the island!

Well there were people that visited the island on the show from time to time. They could have brought cigerettes with them.

I'm reminded of a scene from "Revenge of the Nerds 2"...

The cigarette was put there by the same people that would later perpetrate the moon landing hoax.

Didn't one of the Howell's smoke? I thought they did. I haven't seen the show since I was a kid.

Maybe all of them smoked. I'm sure that several packs, if not cartons, were aboard the Minnow. Finding a cigarette butt would not be a rare thing.

No, I don't think any of the castaways smoked (whether their counter-parts did - the actors - I know not, but Alan Hale, Jr looked like a smoker to me), but several of the "guest castaways" did smoke (like Ga-Ga Gabor and one of the dictators, I believe).

The show was aimed at children and families, and Sherwood Schwartz would never have showed the seven castaways doing anything amoral - including smoking.

And yet he had no problem with the Skipper being mentally and physically abusive toward Gilligan

Must have been a tie-in with Winston like they did on The Flintstones.

Well, things were certainly different back then. Can you imagine what would happen if people saw that on TV today?

The Flintstones, Gilligan's Island, Brady Bunch, etc would all be banned if any of the main characters smoked cigarettes (or anything else, for that matter). Heck, did the Bradys even drink wine - I think not.

As for Gilligan's Island, Mr. Howell sometimes had some "hooch" hidden away for a "special occasion" (which seemed to translate into every "other" episode).

That was to teach you a moral lesson, young man, not to glamorize it.

Marcia was a HYPOCRITE!

There had to be a toilet in that bathroom between the kids rooms. Did they just squat in the shower? "Guys, don't come in here, I'm pinching a loaf and have to let the shower run awhile to wash it down the drain."

Weren't they the first ones to have a double bed on a family t.v. show(or any tv show i guess).

edit: i just answered my own question and found out they were not the first.
