HGTV Design Star Discussion Thread
I'm surprised that a thread hasn't been started as of yet. The first show airs in 15 minutes on the East Coast. Quick question-has Todd's(defending champ) show air yet? I know that David's show(Color Splash) is on quite often.
EDIT: Kim won last season and her new show is called "Myles of Style". I could have sworn that the surfer dude won!

Watched the 1st 2 episodes now, don't like the I'm awesome guy.
Like the 2 guys who did the bedroom together, they seem good.
Show seems like its going to be super short - only 9 people on it,

Pretty incredible contrast between the two bedrooms. Guy who got booted did a lousy job but his work looked even more pitiful in comparison to the other bedroom. Matt has to be the favorite to win this.

Personally I like the girl from KY to win it just based upon the work they showed on episode 1, although she sold out everybody first episode and already appears to be cracking.
The guys who did the second bedroom also look to be good at making stuff, which can sometimes payoff or sometimes not ala that Gideon I think his name was... (Asian dude with glasses from the past season - I see he has a how on that channel)

Tracee needed to be gone yesterday, although D-Rock D-Paul whatever didn't do much either.
I also think they should not have painted the mannequin.\
Stephanie got lucky with all the accesories, we know from the past that the judges prefer less tchotchkes all over the place.
The whole ghost stuff was crap.

"Mr. Amazing" Michael is no more, thank God! That had to be the most pathetic display of an eliminated contestant in the history of reality shows. Right before the boom was lowered, he was groveling to the judges, begging not to be sent home. After he gets the boot, he cries for his mommy as the eleveator descends.

Yeah that'll help him get a boyfriend, bawling his eyes out asking for his mommy on National TV. Wuss..
I was surprised at how bad all the rooms were, although I was happy with the 2 Favourites, but when they Flashed back to Todd's from last season it really showed the gulf in class.

i cant believe this thread has less responses than "the next food network star" thread. design star is far superior . i like them both but this is the show that really is the better of the two. even with clive barker or whatever his name is.

I wish my mommy was here.
Waaa!
T-Ragic!
His room didn't feel very Spanish, but it wasn't a bad room, and had some okay things going for it. Unlike Tracee...who was a disaster.
I thought that Tracee should have gone home for sure. That awful one-sided gondola and the weird fake painted mirror that looked like it belonged in a middle school production of Our Town or something....truly terrible. I didn't feel like anything about her room could have practical application in a real house, except maybe the black paint trim. Aside from her tacky room, her reactions to other people (if those aren't edited to look out-of-context) are hateful.
What a beast.
I almost wondered if she was just an actress cast in the show to bring drama...she should have gone home last week as well, in my opinion. I am not seeing what the judges are seeing - there's no way she deserves to have her own show.

I agree, I couldn't believe how bad all the rooms were for this. They should all be embarrassed. I love the bald dude with the beard, but thought he should have got the boot for his "interpretation of the buddist temple" or whatever.
The one judge nailed it, it was like a pillow fort.
Just terrible.
I did think the artist's room was nice, but it was simply because of the amazing paint job.

Man, this topic sure is dead. I'm suprised I dig this show.
I thought last night's rooms were much better than the previous week, however the challenge itself was much easier, so you'll have that.
Shabby Chic? Seems like almost anything can pass for that, just buy something old or something new and make it look old - piece of cake.
I'm a little suprised by the person kicked off last night. She to me looks the part, and her hosting wasn't terrible. Although she was on a team weighted with talent and was clearly the weakest one.

Sara Evans sure is making the reality TV circuit. First Dancing with the Stars and now a guest spot on Design Star. She'll probably be pulling crab pots out of the vast Bering Sea on next year's Deadliest Catch!

Well.. we have our final 3.
I was glad to see the girl from KY get the boot, much deserved for weeks. She really always passed the blame, and who goes shopping for 7 hours when you're in a time crunch.
Personally I feel like Mikey V got the shaft. He seemed to be the most capable build wise, and seemed to be the most organized etc.
I think the girl that had her ring cut off should have got the boot.. She's been very vanilla every episode.

I agree with you regarding Miss "36" going on 56 Trish. She has got to go. Hopefully it will come down to Jen and Matt.

Jennifer has it now for sure. No way Matt or the old Lady will win it. She has the most personality, it's between Matt and her, but again there was nothing designwise at all in the kitchen, painted the cabinets, new counters, new floors.
This is a presenters show.
And boy did they whip thru the season.

Well we have our final 2. Those 2 seemed like the obvious choices out of the 3. I didn't think the old lady should have even been in the running, her designs were always very safe and boring..
I mean she decorates like me and my wife do practically which is pretty standard.
