Thanks for the visual Quatermass -- she did not seem that attractive before and now even more so.
|
 at Henry Waxman. I was thinking that girl is pretty except for her weird nose/nostrils.
This show's geography is confusing to me. They made a big deal in the first episode that the couple was moving to a bigger house in a nicer neighborhood, and in this episode the old neighbor wife even mentioned they moved to the other side of town, yet the old neighbor husband apparently uses the same train stop as Bruce and they both live within walking distance of the same train station? :hscratch: |
I still think they could get rid of the kids. They're just not interesting.
Love the intro of the show now. The ugly wallpaper, the haircuts, and the clothing really puts you back into the 70s. And everyone's flesh tone looks yellowish. No cell phones either! Yeah! Another great night of music. I knew I recognized the first few notes of the last song. What is the title and who sang it? |

There is so much sex and some drug use. Stuff like that a few years ago brought an uproar with viewers. Not any more. Times really have changed. The female lead looks like an adult version of Donna from "That 70's Show." |

I finally caught the first three episodes this morning ... I dont know if I would watch if this was on during the fall, but I enjoyed what I've seen so far, although the music rocks!
If only G.O.B. pitched this idea to Sitwell in Arrested Development ... I think he pitched all but Swingtown ... 'Single City, then Swing City, then F*** City. And then later in the episode: "I'm an ideas man, Michael. I think I proved that with F*** Mountain" |
Okay, I cannot watch this show now without thinking of this...
Spoiler:
|
Last Thursday night episode was pretty tame, PG rating. Writing on the wall? Hope things get spicy again this week.
|
I just watched the first two episodes on in-demand with my housemates and I got to say its pretty addicting. Although I kept getting confused by the weird camera angles until I realized that it was a CBS show, and not an HBO show.
Still the series definately has potential. I really like who they are going for the family drama aspects just as much as the swinging. |
I want to see cameos from Bob and Midge from That 70's Show.
|
I want to see Fez's reaction after finding out what happens at those parties. :)
|
Good episode this week. I like the show more and more.
But man why does it have to be on one of the prude networks? |
I'm getting a little bored with the former neighbor storyline, it's time to step it up and introduce some more couples.. :)
|
I swear I can't help but think Henry Waxman everytime I see that teenage chick after seeing that initial comparison.
I like the show but I don't really see where it can go. |
Didn't know this was on the air. I read about it a couple months ago. I wanted to check it out for the Davenport factor.

I like this show. It's not perfect, but it's more interesting a lot of things on right now. It brings back a lot of memories of growing up in the '70s. It captures the feel very well, from the music to the costumes. It's almost too detailed -- you get hung up on looking at things like the avocado green dial wall telephone or the Instamatic flashcube on a camera. I enjoy the various relationships between the six main adult characters. It actually has some character development over the first episodes. Too bad it probably won't last beyond the short run.

And the image of that guy with the flared nostrils pops up every time I see that girl. Damn you, people. |
Sleestaks!
So has anyone else noticed the conspicuous absence of cigarette smoking on this show? I suppose Swingtown takes place in some alternate '70s universe. ;) |
If you need your politically incorrect smoking fix on TV, go check out Mad Men. :D
|
I didn't even think about the smoking. True.
And Mad Men is great with not only the smoking, but the mini-bars in each office. |
RE: Smoking
The worst was the leaked pilot of the US version of Life On Mars that hit the Internet a couple of weeks ago. There were only 3-4 cigarettes shown during the entire episode, and only once did they show anyone taking a cigarette to their mouth - and THAT was a guy in silhouette in the background of a bar. There was one shot of someone starting to smoke, but as soon as they started bringing the the lighter to their mouths they started talking and "forgot" about the cigarette. There were two other shots of lit cigarettes sitting in ashtrays; one of those shots even stopped on the cigarette for a couple of seconds as if to say "Oooo - look! A cigarette! At a desk! In an office! It *must* be 1972!!!" I guess it just annoyed me so because the producers tried to have it both ways: "we can't show smoking on TV because it's not PC in 2008 America, but people smoked like fiends in the original British series, and we're sure that people (fans of the original series) will complain if we don't show some evidence of smoking... so lets' just show ashtrays and an extra at a bar smoking!" Either that, or no one in 1972 Los Angeles smoked. Thankfully, that crappy-ass pilot has been scrapped and they're starting EVERYTHING over again (in NYC instead of LA - woo-hoo!) As for Swingtown, I'm actually really in to this show. I thought I'd get in to it solely for the "titillation factor", but I'm really getting in to all the characters (well, the teenage boys not so much). Plus, I think Jack Davenport's American accent is actually pretty good. |

I thought the locale of this show was set in Chicago -- where are the accents? Isn't Susan from Wisconsin? |
Well, it's not a "Chicago accent" by any means, but it beats the hell out of Michelle Ryan's American accent.
Besides, I'm from the South, and I don't think I've ever heard an authentic Southern accent on TV, except for maybe Holly Hunter (who is from Georgia), Brett Butler (Alabama), Dixie Carter (Tennessee) or Andy Griffith (North Carolina). In fact, I can't think of a single decent Southern accent in a movie or TV by a non-native... Kevin Costner in JFK? Martin Sheen in Catch Me if You Can? Dennis Quaid in Big Easy? Shiver |
