The question is whether it suffers from being opposite of Law & Order SVU, since I'd guess the two shows share a decent amount of their viewer base.

What is the name of that show coming out about life in the 70s? I saw one promo for it but can't remember the name. Funkytown or something?

I think it is a CBS show.

EDIT: Swingtown. And its a summer series.

By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- FOX has released synopses of all 21 of its returning series. They are as follows:

[EDITOR'S NOTE: These descriptions contain SPOILERS about various plot developments and cast changes, most notably "Bones" and "Prison Break."]
Spoiler:

24

PRODUCTION COMPANIES: Real Time Productions, Imagine Television, 20th Century Fox Television

EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS: Joel Surnow, Robert Cochran, Howard Gordon, Evan Katz, Jon Cassar, Kiefer Sutherland, Brian Grazer, Manny Coto, David Fury

CAST: Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer, Mary Lynn Rajskub as Chloe O'Brian, Janeane Garofalo as Janis Gold, Cherry Jones as President Allison Taylor, Carlos Bernard as Tony Almeida, James Morrison as Bill Buchanan, Annie Wersching as Renee Walker, Colm Feore as Henry Taylor, Bob Gunton as Ethan Kanin, Rhys Coiro as Sean Hillinger, Jeffrey Nordling as Larry Moss

24, celebrating its 150th episode this season, is one of the most innovative, addictive and acclaimed dramas on television. In just six seasons, the suspenseful series has been nominated for a total of 57 Emmy Awards, winning for Outstanding Drama Series (2006) and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for star Kiefer Sutherland (2006). Season Six garnered a sixth consecutive Emmy nomination for Sutherland and second consecutive nomination for supporting actor Jean Smart. Season Seven of 24 promises to combine the show's unique and trend-setting format with compelling new elements. Each episode again will cover one hour of real time, as viewers follow JACK BAUER (Kiefer Sutherland) through another astonishing day. In Season Six, Jack Bauer put it all on the line to thwart nuclear terrorist attacks and prevent critical technology from falling into the wrong hands. When we last saw Bauer, he stood alone contemplating his future as the impact of the day's gut-wrenching sacrifices and intense personal pain set in. The series gets a jumpstart on the clock this fall with the unprecedented 24: DAY 7 prequel, a two-hour event airing this November. Set and shot on location in Africa, Jack Bauer battles an international crisis, while here at home the nation prepares for a new president on inauguration day. Taking place just a few months before the new day dawns, this story will set the stage and raise the stakes for Season Seven. Set in Washington, DC, "Day 7" opens with CTU dismantled and Jack Bauer on trial. Bauer's day takes an unexpected turn when former colleague TONY ALMEIDA (Carlos Bernard) returns. Meanwhile, newly elected President ALLISON TAYLOR (Cherry Jones) leads the country alongside White House Chief of Staff ETHAN KANIN (Bob Gunton) and First Gentleman HENRY TAYLOR (Colm Feore). A national security crisis prompts an investigation by a team of FBI agents including Agent JANIS GOLD (Janeane Garofalo), Agent RENEE WALKER (Annie Wersching), Agent LARRY MOSS (Jeffrey Nordling) and Agent SEAN HILLINGER (Rhys Coiro). Although CTU is no longer, CHLOE O'BRIAN (Mary Lynn Rajskub) and BILL BUCHANAN (James Morrison) are back for another momentous day of shocking events. 24, created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran, is a production of Real Time Productions and Imagine Television in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Surnow, Cochran, Howard Gordon, Evan Katz, Jon Cassar, Manny Coto, David Fury, Kiefer Sutherland and Brian Grazer are the executive producers.

AMERICAN DAD

PRODUCTION COMPANY: 20th Century Fox Television

EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS: Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker, Matt Weitzman, Rich Appel, Rick Wiener, Kenny Schwartz, David Zuckerman

VOICE CAST: Seth MacFarlane as Stan Smith and Roger, Wendy Schaal as Francine Smith, Rachael MacFarlane as Hayley Smith, Scott Grimes as Steve Smith, Dee Bradley Baker as Klaus

AMERICAN DAD, the animated series that follows die-hard Republican and card-carrying NRA member STAN SMITH (Seth MacFarlane) and his hilariously odd family in Langley Falls, VA, is back to salute a fourth season of laughs. Stan's not-so-smart wife FRANCINE (Wendy Schaal) has an unfaltering loyalty that allows her to turn a blind eye toward Stan's unabashed arrogance. Stan constantly butts heads with his 18-year-old daughter HAYLEY (Rachael MacFarlane), who knows just how to push her father's buttons by being liberal in both her beliefs and in the amount of hippie boyfriends she chooses to date. Hayley's 14-year-old brother is the geeky yet cocky STEVE (Scott Grimes), a kid who seems to be on the constant verge of puberty but can't quite make sense of the opposite sex. The Smith household is rounded out by two rather unconventional members. There's the selfish and sarcastic space alien, ROGER (Seth MacFarlane), who lives in the attic and drinks like it's always happy hour; and KLAUS (Dee Bradley Baker), an attention-starved goldfish with the brain of a German guy whose always willing to vocalize his opinions whether anyone is listening or not. This eccentric family full of radically different personalities is just trying to find a way to love and trust each other during these increasingly unpredictable times. And with a guy like Stan in charge of our national security, it's going to be a hilarious ride. The comedy continues this season when Stan becomes an exotic dancer, Roger decides to have his home planet blow up Earth and Steve and his friends plan a heist at a classmate's bar mitzvah. AMERICAN DAD is a 20th Century Fox Television production. Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman serve as co-creators and executive producers and Rich Appel, Rick Wiener, Kenny Schwartz and David Zuckerman serve as executive producers.

AMERICAN IDOL

PRODUCTION COMPANIES: FremantleMedia North America, 19 Entertainment

EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS: Nigel Lythgoe, Ken Warwick, Simon Fuller, Cecile Frot-Coutaz

HOST: Ryan Seacrest

JUDGES: Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson

Television's No. 1 show returns for its eighth season when AMERICAN IDOL premieres in January 2009. Hosted by Ryan Seacrest, the hit series empowers viewers to discover America's next solo singing superstar by voting for their favorites to win the coveted American Idol title. Every year, thousands of hopefuls from across the nation audition for a shot at stardom and a chance to be the next American Idol. The show's judges Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson winnow down the competitors to a select group of semifinalists who sing their hearts out each week for the studio audience and the television viewers. The judges have their say after every performance, but it's the viewing public that determines who advances to the next round of the competition and who goes home. Voting via telephone and text-messaging begins immediately after each performance show, and the results are announced during the following night's broadcast. Season Seven finalists have showcased their talent by preparing selections from the Lennon/McCartney songbook, songs from the year they were born and inspirational tunes. The contestants have also performed the music of Dolly Parton, Mariah Carey, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Neil Diamond. These legendary artists not only shared their expertise with the contestants, they also provided audience members the opportunity to experience a variety of musical styles. Eventually the competition is narrowed down to two finalists who compete for a major recording contract and the American Idol title. Past winners Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks and Jordin Sparks already have risen to the top of the recording industry. Beginning in 2007, AMERICAN IDOL launched IDOL GIVES BACK, a charity special that has raised more than $135 million to fight extreme poverty in the U.S. and around the world. The special, featuring international talent and sports figures, has been honored with the prestigious 2007 Governors Award, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences' highest accolade. The show has also been recognized by President George W. Bush, HRH Prince Charles and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown. AMERICAN IDOL is created and executive-produced by Simon Fuller, founder and CEO of 19 Entertainment; and executiveproduced by Cecile Frot-Coutaz, CEO, FremantleMedia North America; Nigel Lythgoe, President, 19 Television; and Ken Warwick, Executive Producer, FremantleMedia North America.

AMERICA'S MOST WANTED: AMERICA FIGHTS BACK

PRODUCTION COMPANIES: STF Productions, Inc., 20th Century Fox Television

EXECUTIVE PRODUCER: Lance Heflin

HOST: John Walsh

The groundbreaking series AMERICA'S MOST WANTED: AMERICA FIGHTS BACK returns for a 22nd season of remarkable television and public service. With 1,000 criminal captures to date, AMW has done more than entertain and inform: it has changed the landscape of American law enforcement. Lauded by viewers, critics and law-enforcement organizations nationwide and commended by Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, this empowering hour has quite literally changed the lives of thousands of victims and perpetrators of crime. Leading the charge is host JOHN WALSH, a nationally recognized advocate of victims' rights and a tireless voice on behalf of missing and exploited children. As a direct result of the extraordinary partnership between AMW and its viewers, AMERICA'S MOST WANTED has helped to capture 1,000 criminals, including 17 from the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list. One of Walsh's proudest achievements: the show has also reunited 43 missing children with their families. Among these triumphs was the miraculous recovery of kidnapped teen Elizabeth Smart, which resulted from AMW viewer tips. In addition, Walsh teamed up with Elizabeth's father, Ed Smart, to support the "Amber Alert" bill, which put a national spotlight on the need for a nationwide missing-child alert. The George W. Bush administration has invited AMW to do shows from the White House and profile wanted terrorists on two occasions. In 2003, Walsh joined President Bush in a Rose Garden ceremony at the White House as the PROTECT Act of 2003, which expanded the use of Amber Alerts, was signed into law. AMW again broadcast from the White House on July 29, 2006, two days after another Rose Garden ceremony at which President Bush signed into law the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act. Since its inception, AMERICA'S MOST WANTED has been a socially responsible program committed to making our towns and cities safer for all of us. AMERICA'S MOST WANTED: AMERICA FIGHTS BACK is produced by STF Productions, Inc. Lance Heflin is executive producer.

ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5th GRADER?

PRODUCTION COMPANIES: Mark Burnett Productions, ZOO Productions

EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS: Mark Burnett, Barry Poznick, John Stevens

HOST: Jeff Foxworthy

Classes resume for the third session of the A+ hit quiz show ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5th GRADER?. Acclaimed comedian Jeff Foxworthy is at the head of the class as host of this atypical game show, which measures adults' lack of knowledge as revealed by how much they've forgotten since grammar school. The family-friendly fun continues next season when the show enrolls a new class of 5th graders. On the show, adult contestants find themselves revisiting the classroom, tackling subjects they've already been taught from art to geography and math to social studies. The test questions, derived from actual textbooks used in the 1st through 5th grades, are similar to the following:

1. 1st Grade Social Studies: What was the first name of the first U.S. First Lady?
2. 2nd Grade Science: The chimpanzee's native habitat is on what continent?
3. 3rd Grade English: What is the singular form of the word "lice"?
4. 4th Grade Literature: Who wrote the book "Little House on the Prairie"?
5. 5th Grade Science: What is the most abundant element in the universe?

When the questions prove to be challenging, as they inevitably do, the contestants are not alone; there is a way to "cheat" in this classroom. Adults can get some elementary help by using a "peek," "copy" or "save" from actual 5th grade classmates to determine the correct a-n-s-we- r and graduate toward the top prize of $1 million. Highlights of the sophomore season included celebrities Regis Philbin, Clay Aiken, Kellie Pickler, Tony Hawk, Billy Bush and Miss America Lauren Nelson entering the classroom to be quizzed for charity. Mark Burnett Productions produces ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5th GRADER? in association with ZOO Productions. Burnett, Barry Poznick and John Stevens serve as executive producers.

BONES

PRODUCTION COMPANIES: Far Field Productions, Josephson Entertainment, 20th Century Fox Television

EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS: Hart Hanson, Barry Josephson, Stephen Nathan

CREATOR: Hart Hanson

CAST: Emily Deschanel as Dr. Temperance Brennan, David Boreanaz as FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth, TJ Thyne as Dr. Jack Hodgins, Michaela Conlin as Angela Montenegro, Tamara Taylor as Dr. Camille "Cam" Saroyan, John Francis Daley as Dr. Lance Sweets

From executive producers Hart Hanson, Barry Josephson and Stephen Nathan comes the fourth exciting season of BONES, a darkly amusing procedural with humor, heart and character, inspired by real-life forensic anthropologist and novelist Kathy Reichs. DR. TEMPERANCE BRENNAN (Emily Deschanel) is a highly skilled forensic anthropologist who works at the Jeffersonian Institute in Washington, DC, and writes novels as a sideline. When the standard methods of identifying a body are useless when the remains are so badly decomposed, burned or destroyed that CSI gives up law enforcement calls in Brennan for her uncanny ability to read clues left behind in the victim's bones. Most law enforcement can't handle Brennan's intelligence, her drive for the truth, or the way she flings herself headlong into every investigation. SPECIAL AGENT SEELEY BOOTH (David Boreanaz) of the FBI's Homicide Investigations Unit is the exception. A former Army sniper, Booth mistrusts science and scientists the "squints," as he calls them who pore over the physical evidence of a crime. But even he cannot deny that the combination of his people-smarts and Brennan's scientific acumen makes them a formidable team. Aside from Booth, Brennan is most comfortable with her equally brilliant colleagues at the Jeffersonian's Medico-Legal Lab. ANGELA MONTENEGRO (Michaela Conlin), an artist who specializes in reconstructing facial features and crime scenes, is Brennan's earthy and bawdy best friend; "the bug guy," conspiracy theorist DR. JACK HODGINS (TJ Thyne), is an expert on insects, spores and minerals; and DR. CAMILLE "CAM" SAROYAN (Tamara Taylor), the street-smart and centered coroner, must wrangle all the geniuses under her purview. Lending his professional expertise to Brennan and Booth is DR. LANCE SWEETS (John Francis Daley), a brilliant young psychologist who is equally adept at profiling murderers and providing "couples therapy" to Booth and Brennan. Season four of BONES finds Booth and Brennan dealing with changes among the "squints" as well as in their own relationship, and a revolving group of grad students pitch in to help them solve murders. BONES is from Far Field Productions and Josephson Entertainment in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Hart Hanson, Barry Josephson and Stephen Nathan are executive producers.

DON'T FORGET THE LYRICS!

PRODUCTION COMPANIES: RDF USA, Brad Lachman Productions

EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS: Brad Lachman, Jeff Apploff, Chris Coelen, Greg Goldman

CO-EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS: Michael Weinberg, Bill Bracken

HOST: Wayne Brady

DON'T FORGET THE LYRICS! is the addictive game show hosted by Wayne Brady. The musical series hit a high note last season with all-star episodes headlined by recording artists including Boyz II Men, Bret Michaels (Poison and "Rock of Love") and Kimberley Locke (AMERICAN IDOL) who competed for charity, as well as Gloria Gaynor and Kenny Loggins who made surprise guest appearances. On DON'T FORGET THE LYRICS! contestants choose songs from different genres, decades and musical artists. They then take center stage to sing alongside the studio band as the lyrics are projected on screen, but suddenly the music stops and the words disappear. Will the contestants belt out the correct missing lyric or will they freeze under pressure? After each correct response, contestants must decide to "stay and play" or "take the money and run." If they sing nine songs correctly, they are presented with a No. 1 hit and one final missing lyric for the top prize of $1 million. It's that simple: 10 songs, 10 missing lyrics, 1 million dollars. DON'T FORGET THE LYRICS! is produced by RDF USA and Brad Lachman Productions. Lachman, Jeff Apploff, Chris Coelen and Greg Goldman serve as executive producers. Michael Weinberg and Bill Bracken serve as co-executive producers. The show was created by Apploff.

LOIS (Alex Borstein) is Peter's loving wife, a former Miss Teen Rhode Island who rules the roost but is one step away from a nervous breakdown. Then there are their kids: frumpy, 16-year-old MEG (Mila Kunis), the family's punching bag; 13-year-old CHRIS (Seth Green), a kid who can't make sense of the opposite sex, much less the evil monkey hiding in his closet; and 1-year-old STEWIE (MacFarlane), a diabolically clever baby whose heterosexuality is hanging by a thread. Rounding out the Griffin household is BRIAN (MacFarlane), the family dog, a member of Mensa with a penchant for dry martinis and dumb blondes. During the upcoming sixth season, the Griffin family will enter the "Star Wars" universe once again with a parody of "The Empire Strikes Back"; Lois gets a job working for FOX News; and Peter has to go back to 3rd grade in order to qualify for a work promotion. Meanwhile, Stewie creates a time machine and he and Brian travel back to Poland during World War II. In addition to the regular cast, FAMILY GUY has featured guest voice appearances by a wide range of notables, including Drew Barrymore, Robert Downey Jr., Rob Lowe, Hugh Hefner, Will Ferrell, Jimmy Kimmel, Kiefer Sutherland, James Woods, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and the legendary rock group KISS. THE MOMENT OF TRUTH, the No. 1 new series of the season, puts participants to the test the lie detector test to reveal whether or not they are telling the truth for a chance to win half a million dollars. On THE MOMENT OF TRUTH, the challenge is simple answer 21 increasingly personal questions honestly, as determined by a polygraph, and win up to $500,000. This is the only game show where participants know both the questions and the answers before they begin to play. Prior to playing, participants are strapped to a lie detector and asked a series of questions by a polygraph expert, who records their answers. At any time, between the polygraph and the televised game, participants can change their answers or walk away from the competition. To win $500,000 participants have to tell the truth and answer questions such as:

Do you think you are better looking than your friends?
Would you say your wife is the most attractive woman you ever dated?
Do you think you are a good person?

Of course, the questions are easier when the stakes are low but as the prize amount increases, they will be challenged to fess up to matters they might normally lie about. The touchier questions could be especially revealing because participants share their answers in front of spouses, relatives and friends, hanging on every word. EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS: Simon Fuller, Nigel Lythgoe, Barry Adelman

HOST: Cat Deeley

JUDGES: Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy

The Emmy-winning summer hit SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, hosted by Cat Deeley, keeps viewers moving to a different beat as dancers skilled in everything from the "street" styles of Hip-Hop, Krumping and Popping to Ballroom's Salsa, Quickstep and Jive compete to be named the nation's favorite. About to kick off its fourth season, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE finished Summer 2007 as the No. 1 show in its time period among key demographics. The Season Three champion, Sabra Johnson, was voted America's Favorite Dancer and waltzed off with the cash prize of $250,000. Following the season finale, the Top 10 dancers embarked on a cross-country, 50-city performance tour. In Season Four, producers again will travel across the country in search of dancers who represent the rhythm of America. Those who spark the judges' interest during auditions will be invited to call-backs, where they will work with top choreographers. During the call-back week, the judges choose the Top 20 dancers who will continue in the competition. In the performance round, the 20 finalists dance for America's votes, and each week the six contestants comprising the bottom three couples are given a chance to perform solo routines to encourage viewers to keep them on the show. Then the judges decide which dancers stay in the competition and which two are eliminated. Once the series is down to the Top 10 finalists, it's solely up to America to decide who remains in the competition. Following the performance shows, viewers can vote for their favorite couples. The live results shows reveal who keeps dancing and who goes home. SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE was created by Simon Fuller and Nigel Lythgoe and comes from 19 Entertainment, Ltd. and Dick Clark Productions, Inc. 'TIL DEATH

PRODUCTION COMPANY: Sony Pictures Television

EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS/WRITERS/CREATORS: Josh Goldsmith, Cathy Yuspa

EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS: Tim Hobert, Steve Skrovan

CAST: Brad Garrett as Eddie Stark, Joely Fisher as Joy Stark, Eddie Kaye Thomas as Jeff Woodcock, Kat Foster as Steph Woodcock, J.B. Smoove as Kenneth Westchester

'TIL DEATH is a comedy about the triumphs and tribulations of marriage and friendship from very different perspectives. It's about the funny - and annoying - things that happen between husbands, wives, neighbors and friends day after day after day. EDDIE (Brad Garrett) and JOY STARK (Joely Fisher) are your typical long-married couple: Eddie is the unemotional, cynical and somewhat rude husband while Joy is the caring, loving wife who on a daily basis has to put up with all things Eddie. You could say Joy is the yin to Eddie's yang. As a long-timemarried couple, they've been through it all together and actually survived. Joy and Eddie are the perfect fit. As much as they gripe about their marriage, Eddie really does love Joy and Joy, despite it all, loves Eddie for who he is. Living in suburban Philadelphia, Eddie and Joy hang with their likable but slightly annoying neighbors JEFF (Eddie Kaye Thomas) and STEPH WOODCOCK (Kat Foster) and with KENNETH ("KENNY") WESTCHESTER (J.B. Smoove), Eddie's "little brother" from the Big Brother program. Kenneth is a recent divorc with a penchant for ice cream and roller-skating. He is also the guy with all the answers just the wrong kind. From Sony Pictures Television, 'TIL DEATH was created by real-life husband and wife Josh Goldsmith and Cathy Yuspa ("The King of Queens," "What Women Want," "13 Going On 30"), who also serve as executive producers. They look forward to being together 'TIL DEATH.

It sucks that Miss Guided wasn't given a chance.

Jessica Stroup is in 90210? Sweet.

I was actually just telling my wife the other day that the only reality show that I ever enjoyed was TAR and that we need to start watching it again after being burned out on it a couple of years ago.

August is sounding pretty damn good with 2 hour episodes of Prison Break, Fringe and Bones.

As far FOX, I will check out Fringe and Dollhouse. I think Dollhouse and 24 could bring back the fun on Monday nights.

I noticed there is no mention on when Prison Break returns after it's midseason finale. If Dollhouse does well, they would have to move it or PB to another night.

Also, if Sarah Connor gets good numbers and gets the back 9 episodes, where the hell is FOX going to put it?

Don't read the Bones description if you don't want to ruin who dies (or is the killer) next week.

I enjoyed Kitchen Nightmares, and will always love Cops. But can Fox do any better than almost all reality shows with the exception of Sunday Night.

Does that mean we don't get Dollhouse until January?

I would have thought Fringe and Dollhouse would have made a smart pairing. Suppose they are better off getting benefits from established series.

You can't pair them together. Too much of the same thing.

NEW SERIES DESCRIPTIONS:

In "My Own Worst Enemy," Henry Spivey (Christian Slater, "Bobby") is a middle-class efficiency expert living a humdrum life in the suburbs with a wife, two kids, a dog, and a minivan. Edward Albright is an operative who speaks 13 languages, runs a four-minute mile, and is trained to kill with his teeth. Henry and Edward are polar opposites who share only one thing in common -- the same body. When the carefully constructed wall between them breaks down, Henry and Edward are thrust into unfamiliar territory where each man is dangerously out of his element. "My Own Worst Enemy" explores the duality of a man who is literally pitted against himself. And it raises the question: who can you trust when you can't trust yourself? Mike O'Malley ("Yes, Dear") and Saffron Burrows ("Boston Legal") also star. The series is produced by Universal Media Studios. Jason Smilovic ("Kidnapped") is the executive producer; David Semel (director of the "American Dreams," "Heroes" and "Life" pilots) is the director and executive producer.

On the heels of NBC's hit movie, the iconic 1980s television classic comes roaring back to life as a reinvented, updated and super-charged action series showcasing the new KITT (Knight Industries Three Thousand). Absolutely the coolest car ever created, KITT is equipped with "AI" (artificial intelligence) that is capable of hacking almost any system. Its weapons systems matches that of a jet fighter, and its body is capable of actually transforming into other vehicles and uses sophisticated holographic imagery to elude villains. "Knight Rider" stars Justin Bruening ("Cold Case"), Deanna Russo ("NCIS"), Sydney Tamiia Poitier ("Veronica Mars") and Bruce Davison ("Breach"). David Bartis ("Heist," "The O.C."), Doug Liman ("Mr. and Mrs. Smith," "The Bourne Identity") and Gary Scott Thompson ("Las Vegas," "The Fast and The Furious") are executive producers. Based on characters created by Glen Larson, "Knight Rider" is from Universal Media Studios and Dutch Oven Productions.

The new landmark series "Crusoe" is an epic and ambitious take on Daniel Defoe's legendary tale that finds the dashing and resourceful Crusoe (Philip Winchester, "Thunderbirds") after many years of being a castaway on a desert island with his companion Friday (casting to follow). Written by Stephen Gallagher ("Eleventh Hour") and directed by Duane Clark ("CSI: NY"), "Crusoe" follows the adventures of the two island dwellers while looking in flashback at Crusoe's life before he was thrown into an isolated existence filled with danger and adventure. Among those are his tragic childhood with widower father James (Sean Bean, "The Lord of the Rings"), the blossoming relationship with the love of his life, Susannah (Anna Walton "Hell Boy: the Golden Army") and his entrepreneurial aspirations under the watchful eye of family friend, Jeremiah Blackthorn (Sam Neill, "The Tudors," 'Jurassic Park"). Overcoming marauding militias, hungry cannibals, wild cats, starvation and apocalyptic lightning storms on his seemingly idyllic island, Crusoe dreams of the day he will be reunited with his beloved family. The executive producers are Justin Bodle for Power, Michael Prupas for Muse and Genevieve Hofmeyr for Moonlighting.

For "Kath & Kim," they're the most dysfunctional duo in suburbia. Kath Day (Molly Shannon, NBC's "Saturday Night Live") is the mom, a foxy, 40-something divorce who finally has time for herself and her valiant search for love. Kim Day (Selma Blair, "Hellboy," "Hellboy II") is the daughter, a self-absorbed princess recently separated from her husband who finds consolation in stuffing her face. When Kim decides to move back home, Kath reluctantly agrees -- but to Kim's chagrin, Kath is not about to cater to her every whim as she has in the past. Based on the most successful comedy in Australia of the same name, Kath and Kim are two brassy women who prefer the finer things in life like acrylic nails, big hair and faux diamond chips. The series is produced by Universal Media Studios and Reveille. The executive producer/writer is Michelle Nader ("The King of Queens") and the executive producer/director is Paul Feig ("Freaks and Geeks," "The Office"). Gina Riley, Jane Turner and Rick McKenna also are executive producers.

From creator/executive producer Thom Beers ("Deadliest Catch," "Ice Road Truckers") and executive producers Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun, "America's Toughest Jobs" is a new extreme competition series that will test 12 people who venture out of their safe, comfortable careers and are injected into some of the most challenging, dangerous and demanding jobs on earth. From logging high in the Oregon Forest to oil drilling on the Texas range, or from driving icy roads to extreme fishing -- each job requires guts and stamina, and they'll have to live up to the same standards as the pros. In the end, their new boss and co-workers will determine success or failure, and those who don't make the grade get sent home. Upping the ante, the annual salary of each job will be thrown into the pot until the finale, where one rookie will take home the well-earned cash. Hosted by Josh Temple, "America's Toughest Jobs" is created by executive producer Beers and is produced by Original Productions and BermanBraun.

Consistent with the MRC integrated business model, all five showrunners will participate in the initial meetings to present their creative points of view and hear advertiser needs from the on-set of the creative process.

"Our approach...is simple: when you put talented people like our artist partners and the advertising folks together in a room, they come up with smart and creative solutions to problems. We want them integrated and talking from the beginning," explained Satchu and Wiczyk.

Also, and I don't know how to quote multiple posts so I'm just saying this, I saw on page 1 that on NBC's schedule for January that Heroes was not listed. Is it only on in the fall (again) this season? And anyone know if Volume 2 will get a dvd release before then or are they going to put Volume 2 & 3 together?

Sorry for all the questions lol

EDIT: Nevermind on Heroes, I didn't see the "summer 2009" but saw January and thought it wasn't on. So I assume Heroes will be on 9 EST/8CT all year. Any info on dvd release would be great though.

CW ends time-buy deal with MRC
Sunday night results were 'below expectations'

By MICHAEL SCHNEIDER

The CW has terminated its Sunday night time-buy deal with Media Rights Capital.

According to insiders, move came after MRC failed to keep up with its payments to the netlet. (A CW spokesman declined comment on those allegations; MRC execs weren’t available to comment.) That, coupled with the MRC block’s record low ratings on Sunday night, likely prompted the CW’s move to reclaim the night.

It’s believed the CW was able to legally yank MRC off the night earlier than contractually possible because it hadn’t been fully paid. Meanwhile, MRC was hit hard by the economic downturn and weak ad marketplace - and the ratings for its original programming on the night had been even lower than anyone had predicted.

“The scatter market, which MRC was completely reliant on because of its late start, is frozen right now,” said one exec familiar with the situation. “You can’t get money in scatter to save yourself... In a regular economy maybe you would have seen a different outcome.”

Nonetheless, viewers didn’t pay much attention to the block. Season to date, the MRC block was averaging 1.04 million viewers, down 42% from last year (when the CW bombed with its own fare). Among adults 18-49 - the older aud (than the CW’s younger 18-34 bent) that the block was supposedly targeting, the shows averaged a 0.4 rating and 1 share - down 50% from last year. In a letter to affiliates, CW COO John Maatta said the Sunday night results were “below expectations.”

“The MRC shows are simply not working,” Maatta told affils. “To that end, we have made a business and programming decision to protect our network and your local interests on Sunday for the remainder of the season.”

The MRC shows will leave the network after this Sunday. Starting Sunday, Nov. 30, the CW will program the night with a off-net fare from CBS Paramount and Warner Bros., as well as a movie package from MGM.

Netlet is dusting off the run of CBS’ cult fave “Jericho,” which will air Sundays at 7 p.m., followed by the movie at 8 p.m.

During the CW’s “Easy View” block, the net will air season one segs of “Everybody Hates Chris” and “The Game” in the 5 p.m. hour and back-to-back season two episodes of “The Drew Carey Show” in the 6 p.m. hour.

“Our plan is to program Sunday with distinctive, first-rate programming that can quickly stabilize the night,” Matta said.

As for the remaining MRC on CW programming, it’s believed that MRC is now shopping around the Bob Saget sitcom “Surviving Suburbia,” the half-hour that was originally slated to launch this fall, but had been pushed to spring. Nets pitched include ABC, CBS and NBC, but no deal is in place.

Meanwhile, the production company had already put its two CW Sunday dramas, “Easy Money” (which scored decent reviews from crix) and “Valentine,” on hiatus. At the time, the company said the move was pre-planned. But it’s believed MRC wanted to wait and see if the shows improved before spending any more money. The fate of reality show “In Harm’s Way” and the acquired Canadian skein “4Real” was unclear.

The MRC deal was originally crafted by MRC TV prexy Keith Samples and Tribune TV topper Ed Wilson. Tribune was looking for a safety net in case the CW folded - as was more heavily rumored last year - and also programming that would be more compatible with its stations’ 10 p.m. newscasts.

But with the MRC lineup failing to catch on, Tribune has more recently distanced itself from the deal. Meanwhile, Samples and MRC parted ways at the end of the summer due to creative differences in how the company’s TV division was operating.

MRC TV has had a busy year, landing countless broadcast and cable projects. Beyond the CW fare, MRC recently launched the Lifetime sitcom “Rita Rocks” and animated HBO comedy “The Life and Times of Tim.”

Production company is also behind ABC's upcoming animated laffer “The Goode Family.”

With such a hefty slate of freshman series in MRC's inaugural year, some industry execs have wondered whether the company has bitten off more than it can chew. (Some cite Artists Television Group, which similarly sold several series in its first year, only to be hit hard financially when none of those shows survived.)

MRC, however, has said that it’s well funded (indeed, it closed a three-year, $350 million revolving credit facility with a syndicate of banks led by JPMorgan Chase and Comerica earlier this fall).

Sucks for the CW. I did enjoy Valentine so I hope the episodes are available somewhere (iTunes?) in the future.

CW to say goodbye to Sundays
Move to help network focus on Monday-Friday

By CYNTHIA LITTLETON

CW will be out of the Sunday programming business entirely as of next season.

The web confirmed late Monday it is in advanced talks with its affils to give up five hours of network time, 5-10 p.m., on Sunday, which has long been a weak spot for CW and its WB Network predecessor. CW said it decided to make the move in order to focus all of its programming resources on its Monday-Friday slate.

CW said backing out of Sunday entirely would be good for the network as well as for its affils. The low Sunday numbers drag down the net's weekly and season-long ratings averages, while affils are stuck with being off the primetime radar on the night and saddled with a weak lead-in to late newscasts.

Although local TV advertising sales have been hard hit by the economic downturn, stations would still rather have more control over the Sunday program lineup and the ability to keep more of the advertising time rather than be saddled with low-rated network fare.

It's understood that most CW affils are in the process of cutting deals for an expansive movie package from MGM on a barter advertising basis. That means stations pay no money upfront and will be able to hang onto as much as six to eight minutes of the 14-15 minutes of ad time in each hour, compared with three minutes of time in the network-supplied movie. And the titles in the package for the upcoming season are said to be a higher caliber of pics than the titles CW has been supplying affils.

In a statement, CW said the Sunday shuffle "would provide a new revenue opportunity for the stations, while at the same time expand upon our successful weekday strategy from this year, which resulted in ratings growth among our target audience."

Doug Gealy, prexy and chief operating officer of Acme Television, which owns five CW affils, said the decision to give the time back to the stations was the best move the CW could make under the circumstances.

"It's an opportunity for stations to counterprogram what the networks are doing with local programming, movies and off-network and in some places there might be opportunities for local sports," Gealy said. "If (CW) strengthens themselves Monday through Friday we'll all be better off."

Gealy also noted that the sudden availability of primetime real estate on CW affils will be a boon to the syndication biz. "Syndicators are going to be lining up to fill those time periods," he said.

CW took a half-step toward exiting the Sunday scene this season when it cut a deal that called for Media Rights Capital to provide all the programming for the 7-10 p.m. primetime block and help with the ad sales. But that deal proved disastrous when the first of the modestly budgeted shows that MRC delivered -- small-town drama "Easy Money" and fantasy dramedy "Valentine" --drew woefully low ratings despite decent reviews for "Easy Money," which starred Laurie Metcalf and Judge Reinhold.

By late November, CW scrapped the MRC arrangement in favor of a hastily put together movie package deal with MGM, using mostly older and lesser-known titles that the Lion had available on short notice. Not surprisingly, those titles haven't done much better than the MRC shows on a national basis for CW. Last week, for example, CW's 8-10 p.m. airing of "Four Weddings and a Funeral" drew a mere 1.2 million viewers and .3 rating/1 share in the adults 18-49 demo.

CW also inherited from its WB Network predecessor the 5-7 p.m. block that was carved out in 2002 for network reruns, as a way to help the WB amortize its programming costs. In recent years, those hours have been filled with a hodgepodge of CW fare and programs from the vaults of the net's parent companies, CBS Corp. and Warner Bros.
