I like Brooke White. Her voice lightly cracks in just the right spots to make it interesting. I also like the oft-maligned David Cook. He has a great low register, and he definitely brings the power when needed.
That said, I do think David Cook is an evil genius, wise in the ways of iTunes and YouTube. Choosing new arrangements makes his songs sound current, while the others sound dated. He can sing a song exactly like its cover or change it up, and most of the AI audience will be clueless either way. If anyone else sings their song exactly like the original, they're called out for bringing nothing new to it. If they do add something new, they often fail because everyone knows what the song is "supposed" to sound like.
Now it's too late for the others to stray from their comfort zone of singing the best-known arrangements. If they do, they'll be accused of copying Cook, and that is wonderfully ironic.

I don't know if this has been mentioned in this thread yet, so apologies if I missed it...
Why does AI even bother to have theme weeks if it's not going to enforce the theme? The theme was "song from the year you were born". David Cook said he was born in 1978. Billie Jean was on the Thriller album which came out in 1982. Why didn't they make him pick a song from 1978?
To be fair, that's the only discrepancy I noticed in birth year/song selections. It's possible others strayed from the theme as well.

Chikezie was robbed. Ramielle should have been sent packing.
And the judges. They can tell one singer that they need to change things up, get outside their comfort zone, stop doing the same type of thing every week and then with their next breath tell David Cook that he's brave and original. He's so in his comfort zone that it isn't funny. I'd love to hear him sing Billy Jean like Michael did it. Sure he sings his songs well, but in the same manner each and every week.

By the way, under under Michael John’s bio he lists his first concert as… Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers – Island in the Streams’ Tour. I wonder if he'll pick something from that album?
As far as Chikezie getting robbed, he was in a small group who were destined to leave in the near future. The next three people who will be voted off will be Kristy Lee Cook, Syesha Mercado, and Ramiele Malubay - the only question is in which order.

Interesting exposé on the "songwriting" competition:

Basically, it costs $10 just to enter, and last year the "winner" was an established writer with several hits to their name.

Here's an interesting rumor - during the fund raiser (Idols Gives Back?), five contestants will be brought back and one will be chosen to go on tour. That would be Amanda Overmyer, David Hernandez, and three others. The winner won't be back on the show, but will be on the summer tour.
Also, Josiah Lemming (?), the kid who lived in a car and sounded British, has been given a recording contract by Warner Bros.
