Maybe Hawkins will get a spinoff.

The timeslot is the timeslot. It sure as hell wouldn't do better in a different timeslot Tuesday - it would get crushed even more by Idol or DWTS.

Not to beat a dead horse but I think the grandfather was the perfect choice since he was the one with all the war stories and the whole NUTS thing that Jake pulled from in season one. I never even thought of his dad giving the talk. My bases is just the one flashback episode which showed Jake closer to his grandfather. Well I'm done...with my post not the show. This season is so much better in my opinion than last season.

Tuesday at 10pm est has been a deathslot for CBS for years. I cant remember the last show they launched in that time slot that did anything in the ratings. With FX losing The Shield or USA dropping The 4400/Dead Zone I wish another network would pick it up.

I have to diasgree. Jericho did decently in its timeslot last year(until the stupid hiatus), but to bring the show back and then stick it in the Tues night 10 PM timeslot was a dumb move. CBS never really cared about this show and will probably be glad to see it go away.

If CBS never cared about the show, they should have just ignored the fans campiagn last year and not even bothered renewing the show for this short season.
I mean they postponed production of Swingtown, which shares the same sound stage as Jericho, in order to get all 7 of these episodes completed before the WGA strike. And now Swingtown has been relegated to a summer show.
The fact of the matter is they spent the money to get these episodes completed.
The timeslot sucked and having Big Brother as a lead-in didn't help matters since it's a totally different audience. But, I just can't see another day and time that would have made a huge difference.

I don't think it was going up against Idol then. In fact, IIRC it wasn't that competitive a timeslot and relatively speaking, it didn't do all that well, even at its peak. I know this show has a cult devotion here, but let's have some realism when looking at the ratings.
Besides, you sure as hell wouldn't have gotten Stanley blowing a head off and a hanging in an 8 pm timeslot. In the 8 pm timeslot, you got a show that depicted the apocolypse as a walk in the park.

CBS was in a bad place. The show was probably barely viable for them at its peak ratings and most likely represents a poor by the numbers choice for them, but the fans mounted an impressive grassroots campaign. I think it would have been better for them to order about 4 TV movies to finish the thing up because it wouldn't put people through this season/series finale suspense for no good reason, but I have no complaints with CBS. Eventually, networks will be better at scheduling. It's not CBS's fault that the broadcast networks are having trouble finding a good model for shows like this one.

I believe, before the hiatus last year, it was averaging almost 10 million viewers(give or take) in its timeslot. Obviously, it did well enough for CBS to give it a full season order.

Hey we got 7 more episodes of a show that was doing terrible in the ratings. That's 7 more than the thousands of other fan-favorite cancelled TV shows over the years.
CBS spent the money, hired back most of the cast and crew and unfortunately things didn't work out.

Well, regardless of how I feel CBS mishandled the series, I am glad about how good these 7 episodes were. Ill miss this show.

You should see the CBS forums. There's a ridiculous amount of CBS bashing and complaining. Lots of naive and uniformed posters over there.
All I can say is the timeslot and promotion excuses are a bunch of baloney. The show was competing against ABC News and re-runs of Law and Order SVU and 16M+ people were watching ABC and NBC instead of Jericho.
I'll miss the show, but there is plenty to watch on TV.

NY TIMES - March 22, 2008:
"CBS has canceled the postapocalyptic drama "Jericho" for the second time in two years. Tuesday's season finale will also be the series finale, the network said Friday. The series, which starred Skeet Ulrich and followed the events in a small Kansas town after nuclear attacks devastated cities across the United States, was first canceled in May 2007. A campaign by fans combined with data showing that the show was being recorded and watched outside its broadcast time persuaded CBS to order a short second season. But the show has performed poorly since the new episodes began appearing last month. The most recent episode attracted fewer than six million viewers and a 1.9 rating in the 18- to 49-year-old demographic. "Without question, there are passionate viewers watching this program; we simply wish there were more," Nina Tassler, the president of CBS Entertainment, said in a statement. Carol Barbee, an executive producer of "Jericho," said she was "pursuing other venues" for the series, giving credence to reports that a cable network could pick it up."
These past 6 episodes have been terrific, a decided improvement over the original season, and hopefully now that JERICHO as hit its stride, it can find a new home. I wasn't sure after the original series that I really wanted more, but I sure do now!
